122 | So HOW do you walk in the Spirit ? | Gal 5:16 | Ray | 150854
Hi Kalos, These appear to be excellent comparison verses with a capitalized "filled with the Spirit" for Ephesians. However, I believe that we could equally speak well for a lower case "spirit" in the idea that we are filled with a spirit of wisdom when the word dwells in us richly. Can I get a comment from you about McArthur's notes concerning the comparison of these two Scriptures? See #113163. From the heart, Ray |

123 | Filled with His words? | John 7:39 | Ray | 150846
Hi Batunde, Welcome to the forum. In reading your nine posts so far, I found a great variance in how you expressed things. I found them to vary as in how you spoke of "his Spirit" and "His Spirit". In how you saw James 1:22 as speaking about the Word rather than the word; just as examples. Therefore, I do not think that you are the one who can answer my question about the variances I see in McArthur's notes. I thought that your posts were good, so don't take my desire for another answerer personally. I would just desire from you a more consistent capitalization so that I could know if we were of a kindred spirit or not. I think that we are. From the heart, Ray |

124 | How do we worship God only? | John 4:24 | Ray | 150843
Hi Michael, You ask, "Is bowing and confessing Jesus Christ as Lord the same as worship? I would say, "Yes". Philippians 2:10, "that at the name of Jesus/ every knee should bow,...11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is (Lord) to the glory of God the Father." Hebrews 1:6, "And when He/ again brings the first-born into the world, He says, 'And let all the angels of God worship (Him).'" ********* You speak of Jesus being a man but I would have you consider that He came in the likeness of men and was in every way like His brethren, but He was a Man. Just in the captialization we worship Him John 9:35, "Jesus heard that they had put him out; and finding him, He said, "Do you believe in the **Son of *Man?"" John 9:38, "and he said, "**Lord, I believe." And he worshiped *Him." ******* Christ was born as the King [sic] of the Jews and worthy of worship. His name was Immanuel, which means "God with us." Matthew 1:24, "And Joseph arose from his sleep, and did as the angel of the Lord/ commanded him, and took her as his wife, 25 and kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a Son; and he called His name (Jesus)." Hebrews 1:6, "And when He/ again brings the first-born into the world, He says, "And let all the angels of God worship (Him)." Philippians 2:6, "who, although He/ existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied (Himself), taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by being obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross." Phil 2:10, "that at the name of Jesus/ every knee should bow...confess that Jesus Christ is (Lord)..." ********* I think that John 9 proves that the Son of Man who was believed in and worshiped was the One [sic] who was speaking to the blind man. This Man was not a sinner and He came from God. He was God with us. John 9:37, Jesus said to him, "You have both seen (Him), and He is the **One who is talking with you." John 9:25, NKJ, "He [the blind man] answered and said, "Whether **He is a sinner or not I do not know. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see."" That's the way I see it. The /, *, and ( ) are mine for comparisons. Thanks for the Scriptures. From the heart, Ray |

125 | How do I learn to " walk in the Spirit"? | Gal 5:16 | Ray | 150791
Hi demonkilla, I believe that there is the consideration of being spirititual and of walking in a spirit of gentleness as well. Galatians 6:1. I think that the word of God teaches that we are not to be of the flesh but of the spirit if the Spirit of God indwells us. I believe that one should consider whether we are born of water and spirit when we enter into the kingdom of God. I would say that that which is born of the flesh is flesh and that which is born of the spirit is spirit. The spirit blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going. John 3:8. Jesus said that we need to understand these things. John 3:11, NKJ, "Most assuredly I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not receive Our witness." To my mind Jesus has said, "If I, (being God with you) have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how shall you believe if I (being a Man) tell you heavenly things?" See John 2:12. 1) Galatians 5:5, "For we through the Spirit/, by faith, are waiting for the hope of righteousness. 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but faith working through love. 7 You were running well; who hindered you from obeying the truth? 8 This persuasion did not come from (Him) who calls you." Romans 7:25b, "...So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of God/, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin. 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the (Spirit)..." The / and ( ) are mine for comparisons. From the heart, Ray |

127 | It is the (s)Spirit that gives life?Both | John 6:63 | Ray | 150739
Hi Aixen7z4, I rejoice with you in your good meeting. It is good when men and women of kindred spirit and of one mind and soul get together and study the things of God. God is glorified in it. Your quoting of Romans 8:32 and combining or comparing God giving His own Son and also giving us another equals One --even His Spirit-- is noteworthy. I think also that Philippians 1:19 speaks of the provision of the Spirit/ of Jesus Christ. And personally, I have a penciled in "standing firm in one Spirit/" for Philippians 1:27 noting that it is a different word than the "united in spirit" found in Philippians 2:2. It is good talking with you and I appreciate your thoughts. Romans 8:32, "He who did not spare His own Son/, but delivered Him up for us all, how will *He not also with (Him) freely give us all things?" Luke 11:13, "If you then being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your heavenly *Father give the holy spirit [my interpretation] to those who ask (Him)?" John 16:14, "He shall glorify Me; for He/ shall take of Mine; and shall disclose [it] to you. 15 All things that the *Father has are (Mine); therefore I said, that He takes of Mine, and will disclose [it] to you." Contrast John 4:25b, "when that *One comes, (He) will declare all things to us. 26 Jesus said to her, "I who speak to you am He."" The /,*, and ( ) are mine for comparisons. From the heart, Ray |

128 | It is the (s)Spirit that gives life?Both | John 6:63 | Ray | 150665
Hi Aixen7z4, You wrote, "These fingers acting on these keys will profit nothing." Those words reminded me of Luke 11:20 where it speaks of the "finger of God" and the companion verse of Matthew 12:28 where it speaks of the (s)Spirit of God. Here again we have the possibility of power in the spirit of God. Likewise, in comparing Luke 11:13 where the heavenly Father gives the (h)Holy (s)Spirit to those who ask Him; with Matthew 7:11 where the Father who is in heaven gives what is good to those who ask Him. Are we given the Spirit Himself or the good gifts or both? I wanted to thank you also for your thoughts and prayers. From the heart, Ray |

130 | It is the (s)Spirit that gives life?Both | John 6:63 | Ray | 150663
Hi Aixen7z4, The context of John 6 is the value of bread and whether this Jesus is truly the Prophet--He who is to come into the world. Is He the bread of life, the son of Joseph? Is the bread of God that which comes down out of heaven or is the Bread He who comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world? Are we to eat bread or Bread? John 6:54. Does the spirit give life or the Spirit? I think that both are involved in obtaining eternal life. We have to hear the word(s) of God in order to be able to know the Word. I believe that the Spirit abides in the communicant believer; John 6:58. And for me, I interpret John 6:58 thus: "This is the Bread which came down out of heaven; not as the fathers ate, and died, he who eats this Bread will live forever." 59 These things He said in the synagogue, as He taught in Capernaum. 60 Many therefore of His disciples, when they heard this said, "This is a difficult statement; who can listen to it?"" 1) So another question we can ask concerns John 6:61. Is Jesus conscious in His spirit that the disciples were grumbling, or did He know in Himself that His disciples were grumbling? John 6:61, NASB, "But Jesus, conscious that His discples grumbled at this, said to them, "Does this cause you to stumble?" John 6:61, NKJ, "When Jesus knew in Himself that His disciples complained about this, He said to them, "Does this offend you?"" How many nouns and pronouns of Deity do you see in John 6:61? 131 | It is the (s)Spirit that gives life? Both | John 6:63 | Ray | 150630
Hi Aixen7z4, You have said that an interpretation of John 6:63 as "It is the spirit who gives life" would be a trite statement. But there is power in the breath of life. Genesis 2:7, "Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed in his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being." 1 Corinthians 15:45, "So also it is written, "The first Man, Adam, became a living soul." The last Adam became a life-giving spirit." From the heart, Ray |

Hi Aixen7Z4, It has been nearly a year since you introduced your post. Can I get comments from you on comparing John 6:63 and John 11:25 with the idea of looking at "It is the *spirit that gives life?" John 6:63, "...the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life." John 11:25, "...I am the resurrection and the life." From the heart, Ray |

134 | Filled with Holy Spirit? | Eph 4:23 | Ray | 150317
Hi Hank, You have been unfair in presentation of my quotes of Matthew 3:11. When I change a Holy Spirit to a *holy *spirit I put the star next to the word. And in the post in question I also said, "That is the way I see it". I have never been dishonest in my presentation. However, YOU have printed my quote saying that instead of stars at the *holy *spirit that I put the (sic) after the words instead. That is an unfair presentation of what I wrote and slanderous. 135 | What do ( ) mean in NASB? | John 1:1 | Ray | 150309
Hi onlyaberean, Parentheses in the NASB will mean what they mean in any English sentence. However, you may be refering to a system of parentheses that I personally use and have gotten out of the habit of mentioning. For my posts using the NASB primarily, I often put in parentheses for comparing verses with their nouns and pronouns. If that is the confusion, I apologize and will state that the parentheses are mine. ******* John 1:1, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with (God), and the Word was God." John 1:12, "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in (His) name, who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us,..." ********* The parentheses are mine for comparisons and showing oneness. From the heart, Ray |

136 | Filled with Holy Spirit? | Eph 4:23 | Ray | 150300
Hi Kalos, The word "Helper" I think is key to the error in the JW's thinking about John 14:16,17. (I don't know what "AT" is in your quote). The idea of "another" Helper or another that equals One, a Parakletos, Comforter, Intercessor, needs the capitalization of this One. He is our Helper. He is the Spirit of truth. It is true that truth stays with you and is in you, but John 14:17 has the pronouns of Deity. The verse talks about the world not receiving the truth because it does not behold Him or know Him. But they knew Him and we know Him because He abides with us; and the truth will be in us. If we love Him we keep His word. Personally, I have the word "Helper" capitalized in Psalm 54:4 and Hebrews 13:6. I see them as good companion verses yet while speaking of the Father and the Son as equal Helpers. Psalm 54:4, "Behod, God is my *Helper; The Lord is the sustainer of my soul. 5 He will recompense the evil to my foes; Destroy them in Thy faithfulness. [Or, Put to silence them in Thy truth] 6 Willingly I will sacrifice to Thee; I will give thanks to Thy name, O Lord, for it is good. For He [marginal note, Or, it] has delivered me from all trouble; And my eye has looked with satisfaction upon my enemies." So the name "Helper" can be thought of as a Person for Psalm 54:4. And recognizing that the name is good, it [truth]has delivered us from all trouble. Hebrews 13:6, "so that we confidently say, "The Lord is my Helper, I will not be afraid, What shall man do to me?" 7 Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith. 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, yes and forever." 1) I do agree with the "filled with the holy spirit" for Acts 2:4. 137 | A fresh mental and spiritual attitude? | Eph 4:23 | Ray | 150280
Hi Aixen7z4, I have written a response to you, but do not have time to write it out now. I have not forgotten you. You wrote "As for a holy spirit, we have never heard of a holy spirit." Consider Acts 19:2, "and he said to them, "Did you receive the *holy *spirit when you believed?" And they said to him, "No, we have not even heard whether there is a *holy *spirit." [Marginal note, Or, the Holy Spirit has been given]. From the heart, Ray |

138 | Filled with Holy Spirit? | Eph 4:23 | Ray | 150278
Hi Hank, Heterodox: opinion, akin to dokein, to think, seem: departing from or opposed to the usual beliefs or established doctrines, esp. in religion; inclining toward heresy; unorthodox. John 4:23, "...for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. 24 (God) is Spirit..." 2 Corinthians 3:17, "Now the (Lord) is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit." 1) I agree that "the Holy Spirit is not to be envisioned as a mere force or influence." But I am having you consider the holy spirit as a force or influence for there is power in the word of God. 2) There is a difference between "giving the Holy Spirit to Jesus" and the idea that the Holy Spirit came upon Jesus. The Holy Spirit came upon Jesus and He was filled with the holy spirit and washed and baptized with the word. Matthew 3:11, "As for me, I baptize with water for repentence, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the *holy *spirit and with fire." That is the way I see it. From the heart, Ray 3) You will have to explain to me what a scriptual "QED" is. |

139 | Filled with Holy Spirit? | Eph 4:23 | Ray | 150276
Hi Tim, There is a difference between "indwelling" and "dwelling". The Holy Spirit indwells us. We are filled with the holy spirit. Job 33:4, "The *Spirit of God/ has made me, And the breath of the Almighty gives me life." Revelation 11:11, "...the breath of life from *God came into them..." Job 34:14b, "...If **He should gather to Himself/ His (s)Spirit and His breath, All flesh would perish together, and man would return to dust." From the heart, Ray |

140 | Filled with Holy Spirit? | Eph 4:23 | Ray | 150271
Hi Doc, You wrote that "Even in English, the phrase "without measure" does not necessarily mean that that which is given is measurable." My point was that the holy spirit was given without measure to us and that it indeed was immeasureable. John 21:25 reads, "And there were also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were written in detail, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books which were written." 1) The words used by your commentary authors that suggest the holy spirit to me are "fountain, as in a bottomless ocean", Matthew Henry; "every gift"...and the "fulness of grace", "oil of gladness",...immeasurable unction, John Gill; "entire fulness of divine life and divine power" Robert Jamieson. 2) John 3:34: God is the Holy Spirit, Jesus is the Holy Spirit; God does not give the Holy Spirit to Jesus.
