121 | What do Catholics teach about salvation? | Matt 22:37 | FTimA | 64184
I appreciate your input but the reason I asked Emmaus was to get an answer from a Catholic perspective. In regard to your response though, how do you explain 1 Peter 3:21? A person is not saved until they have been baptized, not before. Look up all the passages that deal with baptism. If you do you will see that it is an integral part of salvation. Even the demons believe (James 2:19). Are they saved?

Let me ask you something that has my curiosity. What does the Catholic church teach on God's plan of salvation?

126 | "ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED"!!! | Matt 22:37 | FTimA | 64169
Let me ask you this. In the passage from Titus, what is "the washing of regeneration" and "renewing by the Holy Spirit"?
127 | "ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED"!!! | Matt 22:37 | FTimA | 64164
Don't take that comment the wrong way. I appreciate God's grace as much as anyone but the bible teaches that it comes with conditions.
128 | "ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED"!!! | Matt 22:37 | FTimA | 64162
Please read your bible. Start at Acts 4:32 and read through to 5:11. Ananias and Sapphira definitely were included in the "multitude of those who believed". Acts 2:41 says that "those who gladly received his(Peter's) word were baptized" and in vs 44 "Now all who believed were together..." and then chapter 4:32. Scripture, in this case, is definitive.
129 | "ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED"!!! | Matt 22:37 | FTimA | 64161
Is not hearing the word of God doing something? (Luke 6:46, 47) Is not believing doing something? (Mark 16:16, John 3:16, 36) Is not Confessing and repenting doing something? (Romans 10:9) And finally, isn't being baptized doing something? People today are hung up on God's grace and are convinced that we need not do anything but speak the words "Jesus, I accept you as my Lord and Savior. Come into my heart..." and expect to be saved. These people are also the ones that do not read and understand the bible for what it says. How many conversions in Acts show salvation by sinners prayer? None. Not all of the examples in Acts reveal baptism, but there are enough there, and baptism is spoken of elsewhere in the bible enough to know that it is necessary for salvation. It is not a "work" it is an act of obedience. God's grace has provided the ultimate sacrifice in Jesus Christ and this grace is available to all, provided the obedience is there.
130 | Please answer the actual question friend | Matt 22:37 | FTimA | 64155
Dictionary.com defines the soul, in this context, as "The animating and vital principle in humans, credited with the faculties of thought, action, and emotion and often conceived as an immaterial entity. The spiritual nature of humans, regarded as immortal, separable from the body at death, and susceptible to happiness or misery in a future state. The disembodied spirit of a dead human. I cannot find a scripture in the bible that specifically defines what a soul is. The spirit, the soul, the mind, the heart, these to me are all parts of a whole. If you want a definitive answer from the bible I would recommend an exhaustive concordance. |

132 | "ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED"!!! | Matt 22:37 | FTimA | 64135
What does it say in Philippians 2:12? "Therefore, my beloved, as you have always OBEYED,...,WORK out your own salvation with fear and trembling" The person that believes God just hands out a free pass to heaven without requiring some respect is in for a surprise come judgement day! All a person really needs to do is three things. One, love the Lord God with all your heart, mind, body, and soul. Two, love your neighbor as yourself. (Mark 12:30, 31) Three, through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, confess your sins, repent of them by changing your life, and be baptized for the remission of these sins. Ok, that is a few more than three and there is a fourth. Continue to live a life worthy of our Creator God. Live every minute as though it was your last and give Him the glory.
133 | "ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED"!!! | Matt 22:37 | FTimA | 64134
I am sorry but you are looking at it from the wrong perspective. God is our only hope of salvation! He has provided the means by which we can be redeemed. Faith is more than just believing in something. YOU MUST LIVE IT! If you stop living the way a Christian ought to live, do you still deserve the rewards?
134 | "ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED"!!! | Matt 22:37 | FTimA | 64133
The primary purpose of the word of God is to address things of spiritual nature. This applies here also. However, I believe you can make secular application also but it would be secondary in importance. The implication here is that "once saved always saved" is error. "...God is light and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth." (1 Jn 1:5) Here John is addressing Christians(John's audience). He tells them that if they say they have fellowship with Jesus, but walk in darkness, they are liars. Walking in darkness implies sin, lying about it is sin. Can God overlook sin? No way. If a saved person sins after having received salvation through baptism and remains in this state of sin until death, God's word says he will be judged for this sin.
135 | "ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED"!!! | Matt 22:37 | FTimA | 64132
Do you not think that Ananias and Sapphira could have been amongst the 3000 souls saved on Pentecost in Acts 1 and 2? Acts 4:32 says, "Now the multitude of those who believed wer of one heart and one soul..." The story of Ananias and Sapphira tells us they were among the believers here and I feel certain they were Christians. God took their lives in an instant. How can you say that a person cannot go to hell, believer or not, if there is sin in their lives? After we are saved we still sin. But, "If we confess our sins, He (God) is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness..." (1 Jn 1:9) This epistle was written to Christians was it not?
136 | "ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED"!!! | Matt 22:37 | FTimA | 64131
Salvation is not as simple as repenting and accepting the gift of Jesus Christ. Read Acts chapter 2. Those that heard Peter's sermon were "pricked in their hearts" and asked, "Men and brethren what shall we do?", vs 37. Peter replies, "Repent and let every one of you be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sins..." Too many people today believe they can pray a "sinners prayer" and accept Jesus as their Savior. There is not one example of this method in the bible. Mark 16:16, Acts 2:38, Acts 22:16 are just three examples of baptism being a command and it is necessary, not as a work, but as an act of obedience for salvation.
137 | "ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED"!!! | Matt 22:37 | FTimA | 64128
Read 2 Peter 2:18-22. A person can obey the gospel and be baptized for the remission of their sins. They are raised "from the watery grave of baptism" to a new life. Afterwards it is possible for this individual to turn back to their old life of sin. This would exclude them from a "saved" state. Only repentance and prayer for forgiveness can restore them.
138 | What is the 'soul' really? | Matt 22:37 | FTimA | 64127
The soul is your inner consciousness and all that it is made up of. This would include intellect, emotions, etc. Remove all of the physical and what do you have left? The mental. This is your soul.
139 | Jesus couldn't of gone up to heaven. | Luke 23:43 | FTimA | 64082
I disagree that Jesus "preached" in Hades(paradise). Hebrews 9:27 says, "And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgement..." This tells me that those souls that are in paradise either died in obedience to the old law or died in obedience to the new law. Since Jesus had just died we can't imagine that many of the converts of John the Baptist were in paradise although there may have been some. We can imagine that there were no Christians there yet because Jesus had yet to raise from the dead, ascend into heaven, and send the H.S. as a guide for the apostles, after which the first believers were converted to Christianity in Acts chapter two. Having said all of this my question would be, "What benefit would the souls in paradise realize if all they could look forward to was judgement?" Can a soul in paradise, already saved, hence the reason they are in paradise in the first place, be saved again? Jesus, I believe, bore the sins of mankind. Since God cannot tolerate sin wouldn't you think that Jesus may have spent some time on the other side of the chasm?
140 | Why didn't God make people to love him? | Genesis | FTimA | 64047
We often hear people say that God didn't create man to be robots. He instilled a free will within His creation. I myself have asked, "If God did not want man to sin, why did he put the tree of knowledge in the garden in the first place. Being omniscient, He knew what was going to happen. 1 Corinthians 2.16, "For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct HIm?"
