121 | Are silent protests scriptural? | 1 John 3:17 | Bows44 | 155866
Hi Hank, This is my belief also. Sharing truth in love not silent protest is more effective. When I tried to state this concept to one brother, I was severely rebuked and told I didn't know what I was saying and that they were saving babies in the spirit. This I thought to be a bunch of religious nonesense. These young ladies need a way to save their babies' lives in the natural. This is especially grieving to my spirit as this brother is one I worship and minister with regularly. So I wanted to be sure that I am correct in this view. I want to make sure I am not missing some scriptural basis for the practice of silent protests, so that when we speak again I can be on solid scriptural ground. It is not what we think we should do. It is what God tells us to do. Do you think God could have told them to do these protests as they say? Thank you for your input. Bows44 |

122 | Are silent protests scriptural? | 1 John 3:17 | Bows44 | 155869
Dear Hank, I agree. But how would you suggest one goes about stopping this practice scripturally besides preaching the gospel, electing Godly officials and prayer? I put forth that by the time a young lady is walking into an abortion clinic this may not be the best time to try and preach to her. However, if one would offer a helping hand in saving her child...i.e. a place to stay, help with medical bills, adopting her child when it is born, then she would be more open to the gospel. Also, many girls getting abortions are saved and know what they are doing is wrong, but are scared and ashamed of their moral failure and therefore believe (falsely or not) that they can not turn to their families for help. The condemnation heaped upon them by these silent protests, do more harm than good, in my opinion. It certainly doesn't stop a single young lady stop and turn around and decide to keep her baby as these protesters readily admit to being true. The solution, I believe is to be willing to give of one's substance to help her out. This is a solution I see as having a scriptural base in 1 John 3:17. Hoping to save some, Bows44 |

123 | Are silent protests scriptural? | 1 John 3:17 | Bows44 | 155875
Hi Doc, I totally agree with what you are saying, but I was thinking on a smaller more individualistic scale. Based on 1 John 3:17 one is expected to do some practical things for people other than pray for them. We are expected to give of our time and resources to help. You know...be a good Samaritan. Yes, we should get in our prayer closets and seek God's face and plead for forgiveness and mercy. Then get out and put our faith into practice in a practical way. So, I guess the answer to my original question as to the scriptural validity of silent protests is...no- there is none. We can pray, preach/teach, elect Godly leaders and help some of these girls as we are able. We can also train up our children in the ways of God and mentor them through to a God-ordained marriage, then maybe there will be a lesser need for the abortion clinics. Raise up a Godly generation and in a generation we will have a Godly Nation again. Thank you for helping to clarify/validate that. It always helps me to talk things out. :-) Yours in Christ, Bows44 |

125 | John 8:24- What does this mean to you? | 1 John 4:2 | Bows44 | 157267
Hi Deep Input, I have been following this discussion and would like to jump in with a few thoughts. It seems to me that you have been hurt by those in the church. Out of this woundedness, you are searching for truth. It also appears to me as if you are trying to justify becoming a JW, but you know in your heart this is not the way. You said, "I know I am a child, but I want to grow up." If this is true then... 1. You must forgive those who have hurt and disappointed you. IF you do not forgive, then God won't forgive you. (Matthew 6:15) Like a hot potato, it only burns you as you hold onto it. Let it go! 2. The Christian walk is not a religion. It is a relationship...a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. (I John 5:12-13) Establish your own relationship with Jesus. Then work on renewing your mind through the guidance of the Holy Spirit who is given as your teacher and who will guide you into all truth. (John 16:13) 3. Truth is Jesus. John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. 4. God loves people. God hates sin and what it does to people. The world that God hates is the world of sin. God does not love some people and hate others. He loves ALL people. (Romans 5:8) He wants to rescue the people trapped in the sin world (kingdom of darkness) and translate them into the Kingdom of His dear son. (Colossians 1:13) 5. At this time the kingdom of darkness and the kingdom of light are growing side by side. There are some who try to jump back and forth, but God will deal with them. Our responsibility is to make sure we remain true to our Lord and Savior; not judge or speak evil of others. (Romans 12:19, Matthew 16:27, Rev. 3:16) 6. God doesn't haven't problems with pledges or vows unless they cause you to violate his commands. He says to keep our vows. Let our yes be yes and no be no. (Matt. 5:37) In other words, if you say you are going to do something, then do it. Worship, on the other hand, is for God alone. (See the Ten Commandments) Please look up the scriptures and read them for yourself. Hope this helps, Bows44 |

126 | Recieving what you ask for | 1 John 5:13 | Bows44 | 160047
Hi basbudy, 1 John 5:14-15 tells us... 14 This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him. Hope this helps, Bows44 |

127 | What are modern day teachings of Balaam | Rev 2:14 | Bows44 | 176591
In what ways does the modern American church follow in the way of Balaam? What teachings are equivilent to teaching someone to eat things sacrificed to idols and/or to commit acts of immorality? How can we recognize these teachings and avoid being trapped by them?
128 | Exactly what things do you prove them wr | Rev 2:14 | Bows44 | 176601
Exactly what things do you prove them wrong on? What specific things are equivilent to eating things sacrificed to idols? Would you, as some say, consider tattoos, celebrating Halloween, paganistic rituals like Easter egg hunts and Christmas trees some of these things? How about the Catholic priesthood? Or is it indulging in pride and deception? Or it is just literally meat sacrificed to idols and sexual sins? This is not a trick question, but a serious inquiry that came to mind while reading Rev. 2 this morning. Looking for people's honest beliefs with scriptural backing so I can learn from those responses. |

129 | What are modern day teachings of Balaam | Rev 2:14 | Bows44 | 176719
Hi Mark, Thank you for your response. You brought out some very good points. Money can be a big idol and partaking of ungodliness to get rich is definitely a way to eat that which has been sacrificed to idols. The scriptures do say we can not serve both God and mammon. Money must be a tool we use to advance the Kingdom of God to the Glory of God, not something to spend on our own lusts. God Bless Bows44 |

130 | do angels sing? if so, what ch./verse | Rev 5:11 | Bows44 | 155721
Just an interesting observation: The NIV says in Rev. 5:12 In a loud voice they sang: "Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!" The KJV says in Ezekial 28:13-15 13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. 14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. 15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. This has been taught that this is referring to Satan when he was Lucifer and that the tabrets and pipes referred to in verse 13 are referring to musical instruments meaning Lucifer was the heavenly choir director. If this is true then Lucifer having been an angel at least played music and it word stand to reason that others [angels] sang. As someone has pointed out, this a traditionally held view not necessary proven by scripture and therefore in need of additional study and reseach. Hope this helps. Bows44 |

131 | Who has been silenced? | Rev 8:1 | Bows44 | 149187
I have been taught that this is when Jesus according to Matt 15:31, Mark 8:38 and Luke 9:26 returns with all the holy angels. Everyone is with Him, so no one is in Heaven for that time, and that is why there is silence in Heaven. You will note that after this the judgements begin. This could be referring to the rapture of the church just before God's wrath is poured out on the earth since Jesus returns in a cloud. See Luke 21:27 Cloud represents angels or group. i.e. cloud of witnesses in Heb 12:1 But it could also mean that everyone is just being quiet and observing what the angels are doing with the incense and prayers because this is such an awesome moment in that it begins the judgements. Hope this helps.

134 | Scriptural Support? | Rev 12:9 | Bows44 | 159761
Hi Doc, I found the following website http://www.nsbible.org/pastor_not_founder.htm which begins with.... PASTOR RUSSELL NOT THE FOUNDER OF "JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES" Contrary to some publicity made concerning "Jehovah's Witnesses," Pastor Russell is not the founder of this religious group. He has never associated with "Jehovah's Witnesses" nor did he ever claim the name. Pastor Charles T. Russell died in 1916. The "Jehovah's Witnesses" came into existence later. Associating Pastor Russell with "Jehovah's Witnesses" leaves the decidedly mistaken view that their teachings and beliefs are alike. Such is not the case. After speaking of differences in beliefs between the two, the article ends with... From these facts it can be seen that Pastor Charles T. Russell was neither in principle nor in spirit, the founder of "Jehovah's Witnesses." Just thought you may want to know. Bows44 |

135 | Scriptural Support? | Rev 12:9 | Bows44 | 159770
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Charles Taze Russell, (February 16, 1852 - October 31, 1916), known as Pastor Russell, was an American evangelist from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania who founded what is known as the Bible Student movement. He is known for founding the religious journal "Zion's Watch Tower and Herald of Christ's Presence" in 1879, as well as one of the first Bible Societies in America, Zion's Watch Tower Tract Society, in 1881. A schism in 1917 resulted in the formation of the present-day movements known as Bible Students and Jehovah's Witnesses. Depends on how one interprets things. JWs came out of his movement, but he technically did not found them. Bows44 |

136 | Scriptural Support? | Rev 12:9 | Bows44 | 159788
Kalos, I'm not defending anyone. Just trying to share the truth. If one promotes faleshoods, then unbelievers have a hard time believing the truth. We must be careful to post only that which is proven fact. If I am defending anything it is truth. My research shows that there is a descrepancy in the information regarding Mr. Russell. I am just trying to show that there is a descrepancy. Why is it so important for you to finger this man as the founder? Isn't it more important to discuss the falsehoods promoted by JWs and the truth of the Gospel than to get stuck on who did or did not start the cult? Especially when that person is dead and can't speak for himself? It happened to be a little bit of an issue to me as my maiden name is Russell and my father used to work real hard against the JWs when I was growing up. I was researching for personal reasons and chose to share the descrepancy in the info posted by Doc. I happen to trust the Wikepedia since they don't have an agenda and just try to give out as accurate information as possible without bias. Personally, I really don't care what you or anyone else believes about Mr. Russell. It certainly isn't worth arguing over. So why don't we just drop it? O.K.? Hope this helps, Bows44 |

137 | Scriptural Support? | Rev 12:9 | Bows44 | 159789
Hank, My interest was purely personal. (See note to Kalos) Thank God, my research so far shows that this man was not in my lineage as he appears to have had no children having taken a vow of celibacy. But had he been, there would be nothing for me to do except forgive him of any wrong doing. Therefore, I am interested in the truth based on a personal interest. I do agree, however, it is nothing to argue over. :-) But I hope you can see why the truth in this case is very important to me. Bows44 |

139 | Scriptural Support? | Rev 12:9 | Bows44 | 159811
Dear Forwwjd, Welcome to the forum. You are right. We did get a little off base. For my part, I guess I clouded the Biblical point with personal issues. I repent to all my forum brothers and sisters. The point I was trying to make was... We should be speaking the truth in love and be careful to post only that which we know to be truth (absolute fact) so as not to corrupt our witness of the precious Gospel truths which are so much more important than who did or did not start a cult. Since there is no clear truth on this matter of Mr. Russell that I can find, it should no longer be discussed on this forum. Thank you for reminding us to stay on track. Yours in Christ, Bows44 |

140 | Does God speak to us in dreams today? | Rev 22:18 | Bows44 | 158633
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (New American Standard Bible) 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. Malachi 3:6 (New American Standard Bible) 6"For I, the LORD, do not change; therefore you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed. Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. James 1:17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. Job 33:14-18 (New American Standard Bible) 14"Indeed God speaks once, Or twice, yet no one notices it. 15"In a dream, a vision of the night, When sound sleep falls on men, While they slumber in their beds, 16Then He opens the ears of men, And seals their instruction, 17That He may turn man aside from his conduct, And keep man from pride; 18He keeps back his soul from the pit, And his life from passing over into Sheol. Joel 2:27-29 (New American Standard Bible) The Promise of the Spirit 28"It will come about after this That I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; And your sons and daughters will prophesy, Your old men will dream dreams, Your young men will see visions. 29"Even on the male and female servants I will pour out My Spirit in those days. Acts 2:16-21 (New American Standard Bible) 16but this is what was spoken of through the prophet Joel: (note: caps not mine) 17'AND IT SHALL BE IN THE LAST DAYS,' God says, 'THAT I WILL POUR FORTH OF MY SPIRIT ON ALL MANKIND; AND YOUR SONS AND YOUR DAUGHTERS SHALL PROPHESY, AND YOUR YOUNG MEN SHALL SEE VISIONS, AND YOUR OLD MEN SHALL DREAM DREAMS; 18EVEN ON MY BONDSLAVES, BOTH MEN AND WOMEN, I WILL IN THOSE DAYS POUR FORTH OF MY SPIRIT And they shall prophesy. 19'AND I WILL GRANT WONDERS IN THE SKY ABOVE AND SIGNS ON THE EARTH BELOW, BLOOD, AND FIRE, AND VAPOR OF SMOKE. 20'THE SUN WILL BE TURNED INTO DARKNESS AND THE MOON INTO BLOOD, BEFORE THE GREAT AND GLORIOUS DAY OF THE LORD SHALL COME. 21'AND IT SHALL BE THAT (B)EVERYONE WHO CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.' Acts 2:39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call." Conclusion: Since all scripture is to be used for teaching, etc., and God does not change, and the promise is for all, it is reasonable to conclude that since He spoke in dreams to many throughout the Bible, including the Apostle Paul, that He can and will speak to us today in dreams as well. Hope this helps, Bows44 |
