121 | Saul Conjured up Prophesied from Dead? | 1 Sam 28:14 | srbaegon | 207359
Hello tumbleweed, A humble person does not tell another how humble he or she is. That is the very antithesis of humility. Several years ago, I wore crosses around my neck. A wise woman told me that I must not be much of a Christian if I need a cross to show it. That hurt, but she was absolutely correct. A wise (and by inference humble) man is known by his conduct and speech. Prov 16:23 (ESV) The heart of the wise makes his speech judicious and adds persuasiveness to his lips. Steve |

122 | Jesus and Children as Paedobaptism? | Mark 10:14 | srbaegon | 207356
Hello tumbleweed, The presumption was based on a speculative idea that the passage was dealing primarily with salvation, which it is not. As for why I directed bowler to a paedobaptist, I am credo-baptist and cannot fairly relate the doctrine. Steve |

123 | Why Could He Not Do Many Miracles? | Luke 9:42 | srbaegon | 207162
Hello Imm, In the post I answered, you said my act caused God's virtue to pour out on my life. God is beholden to me. In this post, you say come to God to receive what He has promised. So I have to initiate the possibility of receiving the gift. In the finally analysis God is still beholden to me, just at a different level. Steve |

124 | Why Could He Not Do Many Miracles? | Luke 9:42 | srbaegon | 207150
Hello Imm, Different Steve here. Since faith is proved by its action, we can say the people had faith that Jesus could heal and acted accordingly. However, in no wise would I ever say that the evidenced faith CAUSED the flow. That would place me as sovereign over God--a horrible thought. Steve |

125 | Marriage as a Covenant Relationship? | Eph 5:32 | srbaegon | 206918
Hello bowler, I agree with the seven elements of covenant as it relates to God, but your application leaves much to be desired. Marriage is a covenant between people; the same criteria cannot be enforced--at least as you have given it here. Steve |

126 | Four Missionary Journeys? | 2 Tim 1:1 | srbaegon | 206864
Hello Tumbleweed, NASB notes are technically correct in saying that Paul had another missionary journey after being released from Rome after the end of the book of Acts. That missionary journey is rarely counted because it is not described as the others. That is why I said his journey to Rome is considered the fourth. All we have after his release are 1 Timothy, Titus, and 2 Timothy in that order. There is no further detail. Steve |

127 | Divorced, Am I going to hell? | Matt 5:32 | srbaegon | 206728
Tamii, You say you have guilt and "repent everyday." God's word says: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9) Are you sinning every day and need daily repentance? If so, you never repented in the first place. Or are you not trusting that God is true to His word? This, also, is not repentance. Or have you never yet believed on that finished and perfect work of Christ? Look, I cannot possibly help to the degree you need for your situation. Nobody on this forum can. You need to find a mature, solid Christian to help you through it. Steve |

128 | why did god choose levites | Ex 32:29 | srbaegon | 206529
Jacob was referring back to Genesis 34 where they killed the men of Shechem, using that to bless in the manner of the lives they would live. So the answer to your question is yes and no. An interesting side note to this is that the tribe of Levi was exempt from all military service, but they were the defenders of the tabernacle/temple. Steve |

129 | Any elders in Corinth? | 1 Cor 1:1 | srbaegon | 206422
Hi, Sorry for taking so long to respond. Paul did not directly address the elders in Galatia either. He does mention "you who are spiritual," so there must have been mature Christians. I can see why you would question Paul not chastising the elders first. I can only assume that since they were acting as badly as the rest, he had to address them all as being childish. But I am open to correction on that. Steve |

130 | Any elders in Corinth? | 1 Cor 1:1 | srbaegon | 206181
Hello Thomas8, My first question back: Why do you assume there were no elders? Paul and Barnabas appointed elders on the first missionary journey, so that was already an established practice. I think that no elders were mentioned is because the whole church was in disarray. Paul wanted to condemn the entire lot of them for their conduct. But I could be wrong. Steve |

131 | No last names of people - why not? | Bible general Archive 4 | srbaegon | 204888
Hello LightVsKira, Such a website does not readily come to mind. Sorry. As for your question concerning "born again" Christians, have you considered that your ideology is as firm--and possibly as idiotic (to use your word)--as theirs? Since this forum is based on a grammatical-historical reading of the Bible, you will find that 95 percent of the users here are of the evangelical type. Steve |

134 | NT canon in 1st century or 350 AD? | Ps 119:89 | srbaegon | 204364
Hi Tamara, 1. Marcion compiled a canon with his own edited version of Luke and Paul's writings--none others. 2. The Muratorian Fragment is the earliest known list of the canonical NT and dates to about A.D. 170. 3. Yes, there was some disagreement (certainly not "ongoing argumentation") among the church fathers. The material written by apostles was readily accepted. And nobody disagreed that the questioned material was important and beneficial for church life and Christian conduct. Hope this helps. Sorry I was unavailable until now. My wife and I went camping. Steve |

135 | God has a backside or is it His anger? | Exodus | srbaegon | 204057
Hi Tamara, That's an interesting thought. We usual think of the spiritual as being without circumscribed points relative to the object--just sort of "there." Something for me to chew on. Steve |

136 | When we see God will talking change us? | NT general | srbaegon | 204054
Hi Tamara, Seeing Jesus in all his glory will not change us. We will be changed (this corruption will put on incorruption), which will allow us to see him as he is. Steve |

137 | "sons of God saw daughters of men?" | Genesis | srbaegon | 203335
Hello, You present more problems. If the contamination entered in Gen 6, then it was found in Noah and his sons. All mankind has the condemnation. That being the case, the commandment of God to destroy the Canaanites cannot be because of this contamination. It had to be for a sin nature common to all men which they had wallowed in. As an aside, God allowed taking Gentile wives from those enemies they defeated (Deut 21:10-14). Steve |

138 | "sons of God saw daughters of men?" | Genesis | srbaegon | 203327
Hello williamrobinsonb, You said: "the answer is no the bible is making reference to the fallen ones who being controlled by Satan mingled there seed with mans seed as they took wives of the children of Adam and the curse passes by the blood." Here we have a problem. The curse did not originate with the sons of God taking wives from the daughters of men, as you intimate. The curse entered the world at the fall Rom 5:12, 18-19 (ESV): Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned. . . . [18] Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. [19] For as by the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man's obedience the many will be made righteous. Paul demonstrates that Christ reversed the effects of sin brought in when Adam disobeyed in the garden (Gen. 3). Steve |

139 | More harm then good? | Eph 4:16 | srbaegon | 203147
Hi Azure, I have the correct first name, so I'll jump in. :-) The fruit of the Spirit is presented in opposition to the deeds of the flesh in a larger section concerning the freedom we have in Christ (Gal. 5:13-26). That being the case, the fruit Paul speaks of should be a natural part of every believer's life. All will be demonstrating in a practical way, love, joy, peace, patience, etc. In contrast, the spiritual gifts are given sovereignly by the Spirit (1 Cor 12) for the needs of the church. Not all believers have a specific gift (Rom 12; 1 Cor 12). Not all gifts may be present in a local church though all are walking in the Spirit. Steve |

140 | Before, during, or after? | Bible general Archive 4 | srbaegon | 203126
Hi Doc, Hippolytus was very concerned with the time frames in the book of Daniel (Ante-Nicene Fathers, Vol 5) and was probably therefore a pre-millenialist, although it cannot be stated with certainty. Steve |
