181 | Vain Babbling | 2 Tim 2:16 | srbaegon | 191978
Hello Parable, Pelikan cannot make a blanket statement that all things in the NT were found in tradition before written. That is nonsense and unprovable. Steve |

182 | Stumpped by my son | Bible general Archive 3 | srbaegon | 191833
Hello Parable, Again I must disagree, even in reference to us. Unbelievers know how to love and do love. This is part of the Imago Dei and being recipients of communicable attributes. The problem is that our love is not toward God until we are regenerated. Steve |

183 | Stumpped by my son | Bible general Archive 3 | srbaegon | 191823
Hello Parable, I cannot agree that "love is not love if it ... is the only option available." With that logic, there was no love before creation, yet we know it is part of God's essence. Steve |

184 | where do animals go when they expire? | Eccl 3:21 | srbaegon | 191573
Hello rabban, No person is allowed "to decide what God's word is saying." The written word is what God wanted to say. The difference comes in how each person applies what is said. I will grant that people will each understand a passage differently. That is usually because they are attempting to fit Scripture into a preconceived framework rather than rebuilding the framework based on Scripture. Steve |

185 | where do animals go when they expire? | Rev 22:15 | srbaegon | 191535
Hello rabban, Don't wait too long. I see someone already gave Eccl 3:21 which also addresses the issue in the same way. Steve |

186 | Why sold? Why not kidnapped? | Gen 37:28 | srbaegon | 191252
Hello Restate, If you knew the answer, why did you ask the question? This is not a Bible discussion forum as stated in "About the Forum" which you should have already read. There you will find: "It's not a discussion group or topical survey, but an ever growing 'expository repository' that gives the layman and scholar an opportunity to share truth and contribute wisdom." If you wish to post a note concerning the text, all well and good. Steve |

187 | Why sold? Why not kidnapped? | Gen 37:28 | srbaegon | 191242
Hi Hamk, I think it comes with age. 25 to 30 years ago I could know God's mind and read between the lines of His word with the best of them. Now I have to settle for His wisdom and sure promises. Steve |

188 | Male seed sinful, but not female ovum? | NT general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 191182
Hello Restate, The answer embedded in your question. You asked, "If a sinful nature is inherent in all the seed of the man Adam, how was it not inherent in the seed of the woman, Jesus Christ?" Answer: Because the sin nature comes through the seed of the man from Adam onward (Romans 5:12-21). That Mary had a sin nature is irrelevant to the point. Steve |

189 | Male seed sinful, but not female ovum? | NT general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 191144
Hello Restate, What you have described as becoming "the spirit of a man-child in one of the virgin's ova" is called Appollinarianism--a heresy condemned in the 4th century A.D. The logical conclusion of this teaching is that Jesus was not truly human since he did not have a human mind. Steve |

190 | Matt 25:5 Why Bridegroom delayed?? | Matt 25:5 | srbaegon | 191046
Hello Missionary35, This passage does not speak of being filled with the Holy Spirit either. If you want to make the case that believers need to be filled with the Spirit use this or something similar: Eph 5:18 (ESV) And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit Steve |

191 | Matt 25:5 Why Bridegroom delayed?? | Matt 25:5 | srbaegon | 190949
Hello Missionary35, You analogy falls apart quickly. First, the passage says nothing about being "full" about of being "empty." Therefore, what you say about being full of the Holy Ghost has no meaning here. Second, please provide Scripture that tells us that the Holy Ghost departs from believers. My Bible indicates otherwise: Ephes. 1:13-14 (ESV) In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory. Steve |

192 | Have ye received the Holy Ghost? | Acts | srbaegon | 190948
Hello Missionary35, Actually, the verse does not tell believers to do anything. Rather Peter is telling his fellow Jews to repent, be baptized in Jesus name, and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Steve |

193 | Interpreting Revelation | Revelation | srbaegon | 190499
Hello RC, As early as 1580, a Jesuit priest, Francisco de Ribera, in a book that was a mixture of a-millennialism, historicism and futurism, first taught that the events contained in the book of Revelation were to take place during the three and a half year reign of the antichrist at the end of the age. Ribera appears to be responsible for this system of prophetic interpretation of which the secret rapture has now become an integral part. Manuel Lacunza Y Díaz (July 19, 1731 - June 17 1801) also wrote about prophecy from a futurist viewpoint in The Coming of Messiah in Glory and Majesty. Completed in 1790, it was placed on the Vatican’s Index of Forbidden Books in 1824. While the "pre-tribulation rapture" idea is not found here, Lacunza taught that Jesus returns not once, but twice, and at the "first stage" of His return He "raptures" His Church so they can escape the reign of the "future antichrist." Taken from http://www.freemasonry.bcy.ca/texts/dispensationalism.html. I don't agree with Freemasonry, but this seemed to summarize it pretty well. Steve |

Hello RC, I already have read Darby and Scofield and Chafer and Ryrie and...well, you get the point. :-) Steve |

195 | Interpreting Revelation | Revelation | srbaegon | 190478
Hi Doc, You are quite correct that my dispensational view has difficulty with literal sacrifices reintroduced. I do not have a good answer for it yet. Someone once said that each view has its problems to overcome. That is not a good response, but it helps to keep us talking about it intelligently--I think. Steve |

196 | Four Common Views of the End Times | Rev 21:2 | srbaegon | 190477
Hi Doc, Thanks for sharing this. Too bad Middleton didn't explain preterism just to round out the views. And after my own reading of some of the church fathers, historical pre-millenialism has merit. As for Dispies? Like comedian Norm Crosby used to say, "Hey! I resemble that remark." :-D Steve |

197 | The earth divided in Peleg's time? | Gen 10:25 | srbaegon | 190212
Hello oo123, There is the possibility of land being separated at that time. There is a theory that the entirety of the earth's land mass was one unit that separated over millions of years (notice how South America looks like it should fit next to Africa). This may have happened violently during Noah's flood, and then more movement occurred later. But that is just a hypothesis on my part. We simply don't know for sure. Steve |

200 | let us put the words of Christ first. | Matt 24:30 | srbaegon | 188846
Hello M.Royal, I will gladly not put your words "above that which is written" but rather "accept the words of christ and his doctrine." You can get off your hobby-horse now. Time to move on to matters of Christian maturity. Hebrews 6:1-2 (ESV) Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, and of instruction about washings, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. Steve |
