101 | Dominion Miracles | 1 Sam 1:1 | terrib | 151184
Greetings Dahammer54, First we must remember before all else, Satan is an angel and a created being. Angels are not omniscient (all knowing) nor are they omnipresent (present everywhere at the same time). All things created are under the direct authority of God (Col 1:16-17). You could do a study on angels. Your first question: "1) Where in the Bible dose God give Satin Dominion over the world" The Bible does not say that Satan has dominion over the world, some have taken this from, (2 Cor 4:4)"...god of this world". Others take it from (Gen 3:14) "...thou art cursed above all ...upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life". God has set boundaries that Satan has to abide by (Jud 1:6) "And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day". Your second question: "2) AS Satan works to lead people away from Christ does he have the power to heal and do Miracles." Satan can do only what the Lord lets him do, as in the Book of Job, he can inflict the body and has the power to take life. (Job 2:6) "And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life." If Satan has the power to put something onto a person he would have the power to take that away which he put onto them, which may seem to be a miracle to some. Remember, Jesus said the he comes as an angel of light, trying to deceive those he can. But, Christ has overcome all these powers and submitted Himself to the Father by going to the cross for the sins of the world, where He showed openly by His resurrection that He had the power to restore God's creation to Himself that we might have everlasting life with Him. (Rom 8:38-39) "For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." It is an interesting study and should be done. For in the study one will come away with the knowledge that in God there is freedom and not bondage and that God does what He does for His creation that love Him. Psa 37:40 And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: He shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in Him. Hope this helps, terrib |

Hi Naenae33, From an Ex JW... Jehovah Witnesses are taught that anyone that is not a JW is of the "evil slave class". Now isn't that something to go into marriage with, the spouse thinks their spouse is evil? How will that make the marriage work? Don't be fooled! terrib |

104 | Who were the thessalonians? | Acts 17:11 | terrib | 150927
Greetings Caurisa g, Well, I guess the first response you got to your question ready answered it, didn't it? Dah, I don't think so either. From John Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible: Thessalonica was a very large, populous, and flourishing city, it was "liberae conditionis", as Pliny says (a), a free city, and the metropolis of Macedonia; it was formerly called Halis (b), and had the name of Thessalonica given it by Philip king of Macedon, on account of his conquest of Thessalia, which this name signifies; and some say he gave this name to a daughter of his on that occasion, who was afterwards the wife of Cassander; who, others say, called this place by his wife's name (c), which before was Therme: its name with the Italians is Salonichi, and is now in the hands of the Turks, as all Greece is: here the Apostle Paul came after he had been at Philippi, and stayed about three weeks, and preached every sabbath day, and his ministry was blessed to the conversion of some Jews, a multitude of devout Greeks, and many of the chief women of the place, which laid the foundation of a Gospel church; to which the apostle wrote this epistle, and is the first of all the epistles he wrote: the occasion of it was this; the unbelieving Jews, vexed to see the apostle's success, raised a mob of the baser sort of people, and assaulted the house of Jason, where the apostle and his companions were; but Paul and Silas were sent away by night to Berea, which the rabble understanding, followed them thither; when Paul was sent as if he was going to the sea, but was conducted by the brethren to Athens, who gave orders that Silas and Timothy should come to him with all speed, as they did; and Timothy was sent back to Thessalonica to establish and comfort the young converts there; and returning with good news of their faith, and charity, to the apostle at Corinth, he sent them from thence this epistle, and not from Athens, as some have thought: the design of which is to encourage them under their afflictions and sufferings; to exhort them to stand fast in the Lord, to abide by his truths and ordinances, and to live an holy life and conversation, and to regard the several duties of religion, towards God and one another, and those that were set over them; and in it he instructs them concerning the resurrection of the dead, and the coming of Christ, articles of very great importance and concern: the writing of this epistle is placed by Dr. Lightfoot in the 51st year of Christ, and in the 11th of Claudius Caesar. Hope this helps a little better, terrib |

Starfire, If I may be bold and answer with those that responded to your question: Col 2:5(NASB) For even though I am (we are) absent in body, nevertheless I am (we are) with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good discipline and the stability of your faith in Christ. Col 2:6 Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, Col 2:7 having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude. Col 2:8 See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ. Thank you for lifting our spirits also. Your brother, terrib |

106 | Jn3:16 ;1Jn2:15 Do/don't love the world | John 3:16 | terrib | 150897
Greetings Starfire, 1Jo 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. These are to be loved, as men, as fellow creatures and their good, both spiritual and temporal, is to be sought and good is to be done to them, as much as lies in our power, both with respect to soul and body, yet their company is not to be chosen and preferred to the saints, but to be shunned and avoided as being disagreeable and dangerous. Their evil conversations, and wicked communications, are not to be loved but abhorred and their works of darkness are to be reproved. Nor are their ways to be imitated, and their customs followed or their manners to be conformed to. Why? 1Jo 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. When one is saved and the Word of God is freshly implanted in our hearts, if we continue to pal around with the world, (see the parable of the sower: Mat 13:18-26), the association with that world can have a terrible affect on our lives: In the Old Testament, God warned His people not to take a spouse from other nations because those spouses would have an impact on the Israelites by bringing into their relationship some of the old customs and would pollute their relationship with the Lord. And sure enough, over a little time, the children of Israel started to worship some of the old gods of these spouses.(Judges 3:5-7) We are to love the men of the world, but not the world or the realm or the surroundings or the life-style they live in. And some of our old friends before our conversion will wag their heads and wonder why we don't pal around with them anymore.(1 Pet 4:4) I don't know the context that that TV preacher was talking about, not having the Holy Spirit in you if you don't understand the Scriptures, but your very question here, on this forum, proves you have the Spirit in you, else you would not have asked. Understanding the Scriptures is a life-long process. Paul says that some Christians are babes and this is because there is a growing process. The Scriptures are a living testament and we get daily strength from them and we grow. Paul also says that some Christians require milk, because the deeper things of God are not readily understood until we put aside some of the more basic carnal concerns.(1 Cor 3:2) It is good and a great sign that you had concerns for what that preacher said for it shows you that the Holy Spirit enlightened you that what he said was not quite right. For this is part of the working of the Holy Spirit, to enable us to discern these things. You wrote: "I know the Holy Spirit is within me, but am I somehow doing something wrong". This is a very good example of the way that the Tempter comes and tries to rob us of our faith, by planting the seed of doubt and turning our eyes on ourselves. Although it is good to search ourselves for any bad thing that we may still be holding onto from the world we once lived in. Psa 139:23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: Psa 139:24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. In the verse: "he shall teach you all things", we didn't know how to use multiplication until we were taught how to add. Ask, and grow in the Spirit daily. Your brother, terrib |

Hi WOS, Thank you for the Scripture verses. Job 38:6 Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof; Job 38:7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? And so it is said: Jer 10:12 He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion. 108 | The origin of God and His identity. | John 1:1 | terrib | 150785
Hi BradK, RE post: "The hard thing for us to grasp is that "it is impossible to bring the Almighty under obligations to the creature; God gains nothing from us". (See Rom. 11:34-35)" Yes, absolutely! And that was never an intension in any of my posts, and I hope none other on this forum. Indeed the best is in the next verse: Rom 11:36(KJV) “For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.” I think what got me to meditate on these things is what is said in Jude 1:6: "And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day." The phrase "but left" really grabbed me, as being on their own accord did they leave. And the Scriptures do not say when this happened but we see the Tempter in the garden with Adam and Eve, so I was deducing that they would have left "their first estate" before the creation of the world. Since the command to Adam was to be fruitful and multiply, which had not happen yet, which in itself may not be correct because we see Adam had other children which may not be mentioned because of importance of lineage, but surely the firstborn of man is usually mentioned in Scripture and would most likely have been mentioned and rightly so Cain is (Gen 4:1). Since the command be fruitful and multiply was given (Gen 1:28), and being still the sixth day, the assertion here is that Adam was physically able to perform this function. So, since Adam and Eve had not yet acquired any offspring the time in the garden before expulsion seems to have been short.(?) Since the abode of the angels was next to the throne of God (Rev 7:11) it is hard to conceive that in such a magnificent realm the angels would find themselves leaving the Throne of God in such a short period of time that it took to create the world, if the angels were created at this time, to the time of the tempting in the garden. Although, possibly through jealousy of seeing the power and creation of God may have seduced them to leave as we see some of the people in the New Testament desiring the power of God after seeing the miracles performed by the apostles (seven sons of Sceva). And so, we meditate on these things and worship our Lord and behold His grace and Majesty. If God wanted us to know what He did before the creation He would have told us for He is not a God of deception but of Truth. And yet in certain words and phrases used by the Holy Spirit in Scripture, God has given us certain impressions that demand our thoughts to be on Him and we see this through much of the poetry of David in the psalms and how he meditated on the Greatness of God using metaphors and similes. To be able to see the pulsing of the cells of a tree pumping water from deep inside the earth to the very tip of the highest branch and bringing life, to the constant orbit of the solar bodies is truly God’s Magnificence. And how much more are we than they! Nothing of the above is, in any way, to be rendered as taking anything away from the Throne of Grace and His purpose in us through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. I am awake, He is there. I am asleep, He is there. I am alive, He is there. I am dead, He is there. I am alive again for He is there. terrib |

109 | The origin of God and His identity. | John 1:1 | terrib | 150779
Hi BradK, Thanks for the verses. I guess I didn't mention the purpose for the questions in my other post, sorry. Sometimes I get pretty well focused on some things and I write as though a conversation is in progress. I was mostly referencing the article you posted: "Arthur Pink in his wonderful, time-tested exposition, "The Attributes of God", comments on the Solitariness of God:", because I thought it was quite presumptuous for it to state that God was alone before the world was created and that there were no angels and I just wanted some Scriptural references. Just from seeing the love He has for us just doesn't seem like a God that would be without objects for Him to display His affection toward. Truly we see darkly, terrib |

110 | The origin of God and His identity. | John 1:1 | terrib | 150778
Hi WOS, I'm sure you noticed that Hebrews 1:14 says that the angels were sent forth to minister "for" the heirs and not "to" the heirs since the heirs were seen before the world was, (Eph 1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world...). Anyway the point I was getting at with BradK was with the article he referenced: "Arthur Pink in his wonderful, time-tested exposition, "The Attributes of God", comments on the Solitariness of God:", because I think it quite presumptuous because it stated that God was alone before the world was created and that there were no angels and I just wanted some Scriptural references. Thanks for your answer, terrib |

113 | Worthless, perverted, immoral | Deut 13:13 | terrib | 150719
Hi Gospelpearl, Belial: (Webster's Dictionary) BE'LIAL, n. As a noun, unprofitableness; wickedness. As an adjective, worthless; wicked. In a collective sense, wicked men. Deu 13:13 Certain men, the children of Belial, are gone out from among you, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known; (Easton's Bible Dictionary) Belial Worthlessness, frequently used in the Old Testament as a proper name. It is first used in Deu 13:13. In the New Testament it is found only in 2Co 6:15, where it is used as a name of Satan, the personification of all that is evil. It is translated “wicked” in Deu 15:9; Psa 41:8 (R.V. marg.); Psa 101:3; Pro 6:12, etc. The expression “son” or “man of Belial” means simply a worthless, lawless person (Jdg 19:22; Jdg 20:13; 1Sa 1:16; 1Sa 2:12). Does this help? terrib |

115 | why did jesus ask the man for his ring? | Luke 18:18 | terrib | 150643
Greetings nofirststone, The story of the rich man: Luk 18:18 And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? Luk 18:19 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God. Luk 18:20 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother. Luk 18:21 And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up. Luk 18:22 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. Luk 18:23 And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich. Luk 18:24 And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! Luk 18:25 For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. Luk 18:26 And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved? Luk 18:27 And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God. Luk 18:28 Then Peter said, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee. Luk 18:29 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake, Luk 18:30 Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting. (This story also appears in Matthew 19:16-30 and Mark 10:17-31) There is no mention of a ring. Since you remember this from a book in the fourth grade I can only summize it was in a childs book and the author may have embelished a little since the man in the story was a ruler, he probably did have expensive jewerly. Hope this helps, terrib |

116 | OT LAW ?? | Gen 26:5 | terrib | 150569
Hi Merv, Well, there was a law of good and a law of evil through knowledge to know the difference. And this came into play in the garden. Noah found grace because he was perfect (upright) in the eyes of God. Noah lived according to the law of good; of conscience; the same with Abraham. There is no place before Moses that there is a mentioning of any written law. And we can suppose anything we want. And yes, God rested on the seventh day, but the Sabbath was not imposed until Exodus, as far as it is written. The Ten Commandments and sundry laws were given to the Israelites in Exodus and they were to keep all the law, whither inside the ark or outside. The ark is called the Ark of the Covenant or testament, but Christ brought in a new testament: Mat 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. So the old is now superceded by the new; the law of Christ. The old was a natural law and the new is spiritual law and being made higher than the natural has now taken the old law's place. I know your driving point, and I do believe in a Sabbath, but the day I appoint unto God may be different than the day you appoint unto God. But Paul says, if I regard a day, I regard it, if I don't, I don't. Do you make a sandwich and eat it on your Sabbath? Do you do laundry on your Sabbath? Do we break the law on the Sabbath? I am not under the law of the Sabbath. I regard the Sabbath to the Lord whatever I am doing. The Sabbath is for me, for my rest. That is me. My conscience is clear because I do it in faith. terrib |

Rom 13:9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. It is to uphold our witness before God. People will judge you no matter what you do. Our judge is the Almighty Father, Creater of the Universe, and He will judge all in His day. terrib |

Hi Poohkie, Because she ridiculed David. 2Sa 6:20 Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel to day, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself! 2Sa 6:21 And David said unto Michal, It was before the LORD, which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel: therefore will I play before the LORD. 2Sa 6:22 And I will yet be more vile than thus, and will be base in mine own sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be had in honour. 2Sa 6:23 Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death. The thought is that Divid did not bed her from that time on. terrib |
