1 | How is it possible to obey 2 Cor 6:14 if | 1 Cor 7:15 | terrib | 153795
Hi Kalos, Mark gave an excellent answer. This would also be a verse that shows us our relationship with the Father. Are we connecting ourselves to anything in the world that does not produce good fruit? Are we supporting movies that show murder, sex and violence? Are we supporting clubs that support drunkeness? Do we work for a dishonest employer? In anything that we do does it subtract from the righteousness that God has given us in Christ? 2 Cor 6:14 encompasses our entire lifestyle and attitude including marriage and all our associations. We are in the world, but are not to be a part of the world.(Jam 4:4) terrib PS: questions above are rhetorical. |

2 | filled Holy Spirit, or to walk in spirit | Rom 8:9 | terrib | 153786
Hi Ray, I can't answer this question because I do not have a NKJ. But, how you have written it : (Acts 1:4, NKJ, "but to wait for the Promise of the Father,..."), it would all depend on how much emphasis you put on 'the'. Whichever way it is written we know by context of the Scriptures that it is the Holy Spirit. These are the versions I have: Act 1:4 (ASV) and, being assembled together with them, he charged them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, said he, ye heard from me: (CEV) While he was still with them, he said: Don't leave Jerusalem yet. Wait here for the Father to give you the Holy Spirit, just as I told you he has promised to do. (Darby) and, being assembled with them , commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to await the promise of the Father, which said he ye have heard of me. (DRB) And eating together with them, he commanded them, that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but should wait for the promise of the Father, which you have heard (saith he) by my mouth. (ESV) And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, "you heard from me; (Geneva) And when he had gathered them together, he commaunded them, that they should not depart from Hierusalem, but to waite for the promise of the Father, which sayde hee, yee haue heard of me. (ISV) While he was meeting with them, he ordered them, "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the Father's promise, about which you heard me speak. (KJV) And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. (KJV-1611) And being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Hierusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye haue heard of me. (LBLA) Y reuniéndolos, les mandó que no salieran de Jerusalén, sino que esperaran la promesa del Padre: La cual, les dijo, oísteis de mí; (LITV) And having met with them, He charged them not to leave Jerusalem, but to await the promise of the Father, "which you heard of Me; (MKJV) And having met with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to await the promise of the Father which you heard from Me. (NASB) Gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised, "Which," He said, "you heard of from Me; terrib |

4 | filled Holy Spirit, or to walk in spirit | Rom 8:9 | terrib | 153755
Ray, Just a thought. Have you tried substituting the word Ghost for the word Spirit where they are the same and use the word spirit where it talks about man's spirit. Maybe that would lesson some of the confusion. Either way, please remember to use an Authoritative version whenever you quote to any other forum member. If sometimes it is confusing to you just think what it would do to someone who is not aware of your ties to capitalization. terrib |

5 | filled Holy Spirit, or to walk in spirit | Rom 8:9 | terrib | 153754
Ray, You wrote: "However, I still continue to believe in the Giver and the gift. The Spirit indwells us and gives us the gift of the *spirit which we receive. 1 Corinthians 12:4, "Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit." Now you are confusing the spiritual gifts of the Holy Ghost with the Gift of God, the Holy Spirit. terrib |

7 | filled Holy Spirit, or to walk in spirit | Rom 8:9 | terrib | 153737
Hi Ray, (1 John 4:2 KJV) Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: The "Spirit of God" in the above is the Holy Spirit. reference: (1 Corinthians 12:3 KJV) Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. Ray, concerning Rom 8:15, I do not agree in the NASB using "a spirit of adoption" instead of "the Spirit of adoption". Because the agent that brought us into this family is the Holy Spirit; and this very Spirit continues to witness to us the grace in which we stand, by enabling us to call God your Father, with the utmost child-like confidence and affection. terrib |

Hi Ray, 1 John 3:24 talks about the witness of the Spirit of Christ, some think the spirit of sanctification, but not in this case. (see also 4:13) ('which' and 'whom' are the same word in the Greek) 1 John 4:1,2,3,6: Yes all these should be spirit, (except in v2 "Spirit of God"), for these spirits are talking about men's spirits or the spirits of a doctrines, or possibly angels, not Divine Spirit. ref: (Galatians 1:8 KJV) "But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed." These also would be spirits. terrib |

9 | difference between samaritans and jews | John 8:48 | terrib | 153708
Hi poverton, Samaritans The name given to the new and mixed inhabitants whom Esarhaddon (677 B.C.), the king of Assyria, brought from Babylon and other places and settled in the cities of Samaria, instead of the original inhabitants whom Sargon (721 B.C.) had removed into captivity (2Ki 17:24; compare Ezr 4:2, Ezr 4:9, Ezr 4:10). These strangers (compare Luk 17:18) amalgamated with the Jews still remaining in the land, and gradually abandoned their old idolatry and adopted partly the Jewish religion. After the return from the Captivity, the Jews in Jerusalem refused to allow them to take part with them in rebuilding the temple, and hence sprang up an open enmity between them. They erected a rival temple on Mount Gerizim, which was, however, destroyed by a Jewish king (130 B.C.). They then built another at Shechem. The bitter enmity between the Jews and Samaritans continued in the time of our Lord: the Jews had “no dealings with the Samaritans” (Joh 4:9; compare Luk 9:52, Luk 9:53). Our Lord was in contempt called “a Samaritan” (Joh 8:48). Many of the Samaritans early embraced the gospel (John 4:5-42; Act 8:25; Act 9:31; Act 15:3). (Easton's Bible Dictionary) terrib |

10 | what country had the idol belzee bulb | 2 Kin 1:2 | terrib | 153706
Hi poverton, Beelzebub (Gr. form Beelzebul), the name given to Satan, and found only in the New Testament (Mat 10:25; Mat 12:24, Mat 12:27; Mar 3:22). It is probably the same as Baalzebub (q.v.), the god of Ekron, meaning “the lord of flies,” or, as others think, “the lord of dung,” or “the dung-god.” (Easton's Bible Dictionary) This was the god of the Ekronites, (2Ki 1:2). The word signifies "a masterfly" or the "lord of a fly": and so the Septuagint there call him, "Baal the fly", the god of the Ekronites. And this idol was so called, either because it was in the form of a fly: or else from the abundance of flies about it, by reason of the sacrifices, which it was not able to drive away; and therefore the Jews contemptuously gave it this name. (John Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible) Ekron The most northerly of the five towns belonging to the lords of the Philistines, about 11 miles north of Gath. It was assigned to Judah (Jos 13:3), and afterwards to Dan (Jos 19:43), but came again into the full possession of the Philistines (1Sa 5:10). It was the last place to which the Philistines carried the ark before they sent it back to Israel (1Sa 5:10; 1Sa 6:1-8). There was here a noted sanctuary of Baal-zebub (2Ki 1:2, 2Ki 1:3, 2Ki 1:6, 2Ki 1:16). terrib |

17 | Rope tied around Priest in Holy of Holie | Bible general Archive 2 | terrib | 153569
Hello ladymams, This may be of help and is the closest thing to a rope. The girdle: a band or belt (Exodus 28:4 KJV) And these are the garments which they shall make; a breastplate, and an ephod, and a robe, and a broidered coat, a mitre, and a girdle: and they shall make holy garments for Aaron thy brother, and his sons, that he may minister unto me in the priest's office. (Exodus 28:8 KJV) And the curious girdle of the ephod, which is upon it, shall be of the same, according to the work thereof; even of gold, of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen. "The ephod was fastened by a girdle of the same costly materials, that is, dyed, embroidered, and wrought with threads of gold. It was about a handbreadth wide and wound twice round the upper part of the waist; it fastened in front, the ends hanging down at great length (Rev 1:13)." 18 | interaciall marriage | 2 Cor 6:14 | terrib | 153510
Hi Ngkh, The subject of the verse you cited has to do with those that are already married and one of them becomes a believer. The topic starts with verse 1 Cor 7:10 and runs through verse 16. "1Co 7:10 And unto the married" is the clue for the subject. Upon becoming a Christian while one is married binds the contract made before God even stronger, for now the believer is even more aware of their covenant with God. The couple are still 'one flesh' in the eyes of the Lord, thus the spouse of the believer is santified by the belief of the other. "Thus Christians are called commonly saints; such they are by profession, separated to be a peculiar people of God, and as such distinguished from the world; and therefore the children born to Christians, though married to unbelievers, are not to be reckoned as part of the world, but of the church, a holy, not a common and unclean seed. “Continue therefore to live even with unbelieving relatives; for, if you are holy, the relation is so, the state is so, you may make a holy use even of an unbelieving relative, in conjugal duties, and your seed will be holy too.” What a comfort is this, where both relatives are believers!" 19 | interaciall marriage | 2 Cor 6:14 | terrib | 153504
Greetings Somsmallfabshop, Welcome to the forum! The Bible does not forbid interracial marriages. It does, however, forbid a Christian from marrying an unbeliever: "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?" (2 Cor. 6:14). In Numbers 12:1-8 is an account of Moses marrying an Ethiopian woman. "And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman" (Num. 12:1). Other Bible verses translate this as "Cush." Cush is the ancient location of Ethiopia. Miriam and Aaron were upset with Moses because he married a Cushite woman. Cush has also been considered to be the northern part of Egypt. Either way, it is very possible that Cushite woman was of a different race. God defended Moses for marrying this woman. If race were an issue, this would have been a great place to set the matter straight. Also, people of different races were not mentioned as being among those forbidden by God for Jews to marry, see Exodus 34:11. (CHRISTIAN APOLOGETICS and RESEARCH MINISTRY www.carm.org) terrib |

20 | REV 2:15 | Rev 2:15 | terrib | 153465
Hi In2Jesus, A sect or party of evil influence in early Christianity, especially in the 7 churches of Asia. Their doctrine was similar to that of Balaam, “who taught Balak to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit fornication” (Rev 2:14, Rev 2:15). Their practices were strongly condemned by John, who praised the church in Ephesus for “hating their works” (Rev 2:6), and blamed the church in Pergamum for accepting in some measure their teaching (Rev 2:15). Except that reference is probably made to their influence in the church at Thyatira also, where their leader was “the woman Jezebel, who calleth herself a prophetess” (Rev 2:20; compare Rev 2:14), no further direct information regarding them is given in Scripture. terrib |
