Proverbs 6:32 But a man who commits adultery lacks judgment; whoever does so destroys himself. Matthew 5:27-28 "You have heard that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery.' [28] But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. |

104 | What does Psalm 23:5 mean? | Ps 23:5 | Shelly | 76972
NIV Study Bible notes says: Ps 23:5, 6 In ancient Near Eastern culture, at a banquet it was customary to anoint a person with fragrant oil as a lotion. Hosts were also expected to protect their guests at all costs. God offers the protection of a host even when enemies surround us. In the final scene of this psalm, we see that believers will dwell with God. God, the perfect shepherd and host, promises to guide and protect us through life to bring us into his house forever. |

105 | Does God have rules on sex in marriage? | 1 Cor 6:9 | Shelly | 74843
My husband and I have been married for 21 years, and as fas as we're concerned, God designed that part of the body for a totally different purpose. I don't think you will actually find the answer written in the Bible, and likewise, the Bible doesn't tell you everything about life, eg. what will happen if you stick your finger in a power point, or what will happen if you lie down under a moving elephant. A lot of things in life need a 'commonsense' approach, or even better, a bit of thought beforehand. Most actions in life have consequences in life, some good, some bad. Also, as a general rule, if something is right, you'll know in your heart it's right. If you have doubts about something, it's usually wrong, so I wouldn't do it. |

106 | Isaiah 7:14 - Virgin | Matt 1:23 | Shelly | 74735
NIV Bible Study Notes say: Isa 7:14-16 'Virgin' is translated from a Hebrew word used for an unmarried woman old enough to be married, one who is sexually mature (see Genesis 24:43; Exodus 2:8; Psalm 68:25; Proverbs 30:19; Song of Songs 1:3; 6:8). Some have compared this young woman to Isaiah's young wife and newborn son (8:1-4). This is not likely because she had a child, Shear-Jashub, and her second child was not named Immanuel. Some believe that Isaiah's first wife may have died, and so this is his second wife. It is more likely that this prophecy had a double fulfillment. (1) A young woman from the house of Ahaz who was not married would marry and have a son. Before three years passed (one year for pregnancy and two for the child to be old enough to talk), the two invading kings would be destroyed. (2) Matthew 1:23 quotes Isaiah 7:14 to show a further fulfillment of this prophecy in that a virgin named Mary conceived and bore a son, Immanuel, the Christ. |

107 | races origin? | Genesis | Shelly | 74476
Where did the human races come from? see: http://www.christiananswers.net/q-aig/race-definition.html The Bible tells us how the population that descended from Noah's family had one language and by living in one place were disobeying God's command to "fill the earth" (Genesis 9:1, 11:4). God confused their language, causing a break-up of the population into smaller groups which scattered over the earth (Genesis 11:8-9). Modern genetics show how, following such a break-up of a population, variations in skin color, for example, can develop in only a few generations. There is good evidence that the various people groups we have today have not been separated for huge periods of time. |

108 | Does God really have a plan for my life | Prov 16:3 | Shelly | 74053
Proverbs 16:3 Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. Proverbs 16:9 In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps. Proverbs 19:21 Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD'S purpose that prevails. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (NIV notes: Jer 29:11 We're all encouraged by a leader who stirs us to move ahead, someone who believes we can do the task he has given and who will be with us all the way. God is that kind of leader. He knows the future, and his plans for us are good and full of hope. As long as God, who knows the future, provides our agenda and goes with us as we fulfill his mission, we can have boundless hope. This does not mean that we will be spared pain, suffering, or hardship, but that God will see us through to a glorious conclusion.) |

109 | Answer or not? Proverbs 26:4,5 | Prov 26:4 | Shelly | 73483
The NIV Bible study notes says: Prov 26:4, 5 These two verses seem to be in contradiction. But the writer is saying that we shouldn't take a foolish person seriously and try to reason with his or her empty arguments. This will only make him or her proud and determined to win the argument. In some situations, you ought not to even try to answer a fool, for there is no way you can penetrate his or her closed mind. You may, in fact, be stooping to that person's level if you do choose to answer. Such a fool will abuse you and you will be tempted to abuse him or her in return. There are other situations where your common sense tells you to answer in order to expose the fool's pride and folly. |

112 | Why so many destined for Hell? | 1 Pet 2:8 | Shelly | 70625
Hi My ref was Romans 10:9-10. This refers to Jesus as Lord (not only reference to God). Romans 10:9-10 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. [10] For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. |

113 | Why so many destined for Hell? | 1 Pet 2:8 | Shelly | 70296
God created us hoping that we would spend eternity with Him in Heaven, but He gave us that choice to make. If we believe and confess in Him, then we will be saved. If we don't, we go to hell. Luke 13:5 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish." John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 10:9-10 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. [10] For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. If you don't know whether you are saved or not, then I suggest you get to a good Bible-believing Church. If you are saved, you WILL go to Heaven and you will not have "to accept that we may have to suffer forever". |

116 | What does adoption mean this verse | Eph 1:5 | Shelly | 69310
NIV Bible study notes say: Eph 1:5 "Predestined" means marked out beforehand. This is another way of saying that salvation is God's work and not our own doing. In his infinite love, God has adopted us as his own children. Through Jesus' sacrifice, he has brought us into his family and made us heirs along with Jesus (Romans 8:17). In Roman law, adopted children had the same rights and privileges as biological children, even if they had been slaves. Paul uses this term to show how strong our relationship to God is. Have you entered into this loving relationship with God? For more on the meaning of adoption, see Galatians 4:5-7. |

117 | Are christians sinners or not? | Rom 3:23 | Shelly | 69156
Yes, we are sinners - no one is perfect. Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 1 John 1:10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives. |

118 | bible reference please | Is 61:1 | Shelly | 65848
NIV Bible study notes: Isaiah 61:1, 2 Jesus quoted these words in Luke 4:18, 19. As he read to the people in the synagogue, he stopped in the middle of 61:2 after the words, "to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor." Rolling up the scroll, he said, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing" (Luke 4:21). The next phrase in 61:2, "and the day of vengeance of our God," will come true when Jesus returns to earth again. We are now under God's favor; his wrath is yet to come. |

120 | when is someone saved? | Rom 10:9 | Shelly | 58801
It is not with just believing - the devil 'believes in' Jesus, but certainly does not follow him. Romans 10:9-10 "That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. [10] For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." |
