123 | Explain this verse please? | Ps 23:5 | Shelly | 57639
NIV Study Bible notes: Ps 23:5-6 In ancient Near Eastern culture, at a banquet it was customary to anoint a person with fragrant oil as a lotion. Hosts were also expected to protect their guests at all costs. God offers the protection of a host even when enemies surround us. In the final scene of this psalm, we see that believers will dwell with God. God, the perfect shepherd and host, promises to guide and protect us through life to bring us into his house forever. |

124 | Who were Cain's enemies? | Gen 4:14 | Shelly | 56424
In Gen 4:14 We have heard about only four people so far--Adam, Eve, Cain, and Abel. Two questions arise: Why was Cain worried about being killed by others, and where did he get his wife (see Genesis 4:17)? Adam and Eve had numerous children; they had been told to "fill the earth" (Genesis 1:28). Cain's guilt and fear over killing his brother were heavy, and he probably feared repercussions from his family. If he was capable of killing, so were they. The wife Cain chose may have been one of his sisters or a niece. The human race was still genetically pure, and there was no fear of side effects from marrying relatives. |

125 | What is the "Key of David"? | Rev 3:7 | Shelly | 54572
My NIV Study Bible notes says: REV 3:7 The key of David represents Christ's authority to open the door of invitation into his future kingdom. After the door is opened, no one can close it--salvation is assured. Once it is closed, no one can open it--judgment is certain. |

126 | Saved by Grace | Rom 10:9 | Shelly | 53784
No. Satan knows that God became flseh, dies and rose again, bt that does not make him saved. Romans 10:9-10 says: That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. [10] For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. |

127 | 1,000 year period is a millenium . | Rev 20:2 | Shelly | 53780
This is from my NIV Bible study notes: Rev 20:2-4 The 1,000 years are often referred to as the 'Millennium' (Latin for '1,000'). Just how and when this 1,000 years takes place is understood differently among Christian scholars. The three major positions on this issue are called postmillennialism, premillennialism, and amillennialism. (1) 'Postmillennialism' looks for a literal 1,000-year period of peace on earth ushered in by the church. At the end of the 1,000 years, Satan will be unleashed once more, but then Christ will return to defeat him and reign forever. Christ's second coming will not occur until after the 1,000-year period. (2) 'Premillennialism' also views the 1,000 years as a literal time period, but holds that Christ's second coming initiates his 1,000-year reign and that this reign occurs before the final removal of Satan. (3) 'Amillennialism' understands the 1,000-year period to be symbolic of the time between Christ's ascension and his return. This Millennium is the reign of Christ in the hearts of believers and in his church; thus it is another way of referring to the church age. This period will end with the second coming of Christ. These different views about the Millennium need not cause division and controversy in the church, because each view acknowledges what is most crucial to Christianity--Christ will return, defeat Satan, and reign forever! Whatever and whenever the Millennium is, Jesus Christ will unite all believers; therefore, we should not let this issue divide us. |

131 | Pastors and Salaries | 1 Cor 9:10 | Shelly | 51801
Sorry Johnny, I did not read your previous note, just this one. We belong to quite a big church, and there are quite a few people there that work at the church full-time, so they get paid by the church/us. They do not have time to have another job beside church. Neh. 10:37 says: "Moreover, we will bring to the storerooms of the house of our God, to the priests, the first of our ground meal, of our grain offerings, of the fruit of all our trees and of our new wine and oil. And we will bring a tithe of our crops to the Levites, for it is the Levites who collect the tithes in all the towns where we work." My NIV Bible study notes says about this verse: According to God's law, the people were to give a tenth of their produce to the temple for the support of the Levites (those who cared for the temple and the religious observances). A tenth of what the Levites received or produced went to the priests for their support. The principle at work was to ensure the support of the house of God and his workers. We must not overlook our responsibility to God's workers today. Thanks Shelly |
