101 | Cornelius and Acts 10:30 | Acts 10:30 | EdB | 242241
Ah I think I ran into a trap. 4 days would have been Sunday. Okay lets try it this way Sunday Cornelius was praying Acts 10:1-3 Monday he sets his men off to find Peter Verse 8. Verse 9 on the next day as they were approaching the city Peter had his vision which would be Tuesday. It is a one day trip. Verse 23 they stay over night. Wednesday morning they leave for Cornelius and Thursday they arrived. Cornelius says 4 days ago I was praying. How is that? The problem is we don't know what day Cornelius sent his men Verse 8 and we don't know if there may have been a time lapse between verse 16 and 17. I think my corrected above scenario is the probably what happened. |

102 | Cornelius and Acts 10:30 | Acts 10:30 | EdB | 242240
Not sure what you are asking but if it was thrusday when Cornelius said one day ago I was fasting then it would have been on Wednesday that Conrnelius was fasting. If you are looking for chronology of this Starting with thrusday as day Cornelius is talking we see the events began on Monday verse 1-3. Then on Tuesday Peter had his vision verse 9 the servants came later than day verse 17 They then stayed over night verse 23. Then on Wednesday the began travel to Cornelius. the trip took 1 day so they arrived on Thrusday verse 24 and the rest of the events happened. Here Cornelius said 4 days ago (Monday) I was praying. |

103 | divorce and deacons and pastors? | 1 Tim 3:2 | EdB | 242225
I believe these two passages are very clear. They should be read literally and without addition or subtraction. I know there are many justifications made and many in the pulpit today that do not meet these qualifications. However that does not mean they are right and the justification they used is correct. Many complain and say, "where is the power where is the authority of the church?" I believe until the church rids itself of self justification and gets back to standards the church held for 1000's of years the church will go on seeking for what it has lost. Titus 1:5-9 (NASB) 5 For this reason I left you in Crete, that you would set in order what remains and appoint elders in every city as I directed you, 6 namely, if any man is above reproach, the husband of one wife, having children who believe, not accused of dissipation or rebellion. 7 For the overseer must be above reproach as God's steward, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not addicted to wine, not pugnacious, not fond of sordid gain, 8 but hospitable, loving what is good, sensible, just, devout, self-controlled, 9 holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict. And 1 Timothy 3:1-7 (NASB) 1 It is a trustworthy statement: if any man aspires to the office of overseer, it is a fine work he desires to do. 2 An overseer, then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3 not addicted to wine or pugnacious, but gentle, peaceable, free from the love of money. 4 He must be one who manages his own household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity 5 (but if a man does not know how to manage his own household, how will he take care of the church of God?), 6 and not a new convert, so that he will not become conceited and fall into the condemnation incurred by the devil. 7 And he must have a good reputation with those outside the church, so that he will not fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. |

104 | Judgement of believers | Matt 7:21 | EdB | 242208
CDBJ I believe there will be a lot of believers judged at the White Throne. Matthew 7:21-23 (NKJV) 21 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' 23 And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!' This is something not many teach on. But just believing in Jesus Christ is not salvation. He has to be Lord and Master of our lives, in very aspect. Many believe few serve in that belief. |

106 | What does Galatians 5 Verse 2 Mean? | Gal 5:2 | EdB | 242186
What Paul is saying here is keeping the Law (in this case circumcision) will not provide for your salvation. Salvation is by grace through the belief (total dependency in Christ) in Jesus. |

107 | SEARCHING OR THE TRUTH | NT general | EdB | 242182
No. Jesus was the perfect sacrifice. His death and His death alone paid the price for our sin. For that salvation to be realized one must make himself be totally dependent on the salvation Jesus provided.
108 | What is meant by two becoming one flesh? | Mark 10:8 | EdB | 242176
Just what it says. Two people become one flesh. I explain it this way you have a sheet of red paper and a sheet of blue you cover both sheets of paper with glue and stick them together. That is being married, they become one. You can still see the blue sheet and the red sheet but they are glued together and can't be separated. If you cut the red you cut the blue. If the blue is made into a glorious art form so is the red. If you burn the red you also burn the blue. If you cover the blue sheet with filth so is the red sheet. Whatever you do to one is done to the other. They are together as one. Now people often try to divorce but like the paper you can't cleanly do it, both sheet will get torn, some of blue will stick to the red and some of the red with stick to the blue. Both become damaged, rips, missing pieces, lumps, old glue. Not a pretty sight. Now people will try to fix this by remarrying but if you take the old torn up red sheet and try to glue it to a green sheet you will end up with a mess. While the green sheet did look good it will now have the red with its lumps, missing pieces, stuck on blue and old glue hanging off it. It will make the whole thing nasty. Never like the the red and blue sheet that were once glued together. |

109 | Please explain Proverbs 3:5-6 | Prov 3:5 | EdB | 242153
Not sure what needs to be explained the text is straight forward. Proverbs 3:5-6 (NASB) 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. WE must learn to trust God, often God's way is counter to our way. But if we commit to God totally body mind and will God will make things work to our good. Also we must always make sure that what ever we do all eyes are on God and not us. Many like to say "oh it was God that did it." but what they really mean is, "look at me how religious I am God worked through me." When everyone sees God and not us things go fantastic. But the minute we try to get into the picture (mostly for fame or fortune) God steps out and says okay you do it. Not Good! Hope this helps |

110 | men and women | Bible general | EdB | 242150
Not sure what you are asking. Could you clarify you question? The roles of men and women often are reversed in different societies. However the roles of men and women has been the same in the Judeo-Christian culture as seen in scripture. |

112 | Brother name of Jesus, how many | NT general | EdB | 242145
See Matthew 13:55; Mark 6:3. Some will argue these are relatives and not sons and daughters of Mary. Paul seems to be confirm that at least James was a brother by his reference to his visit to Jerusalem, in which he states that he saw only Peter, and "James, the Lord's brother" (Galatians 1:18-19). |

113 | PRYING TO THE HOLY SPIRIT ? | Bible general | EdB | 242138
No, that said the Holy Spirit is part of the God head. We are instructed to pray to God, so in the sense that the Holy Spirit is God we do pray to Him. I pray to God I the name of Jesus the Christ depending on the Holy Spirit to direct my mind to pray as I should. |

114 | once saved always saved true? | Bible general | EdB | 242121
Doc offered one opinion but scripture offers another See Hebrew 6:4-6 and Hebrews 10:26-30. I think the real crux of the matter is the definition of salvation. Too many think a head knowledge of Jesus is all that is required. However if we really look into the word "believe" we find in the original language that it meant much more than simple knowledge of a fact. We must become dependent on Jesus and nothing else for our salvation. If we are truly dependent then the matter of sin will not be an issue. The question of how far can I lean off the cliff before I fall is never asked. |

115 | When study what to read first | Bible general | EdB | 242093
Many will tell you to read the New Testament and then read the rest of the Bible. Many also recommend the Book of John. I think the Book of Mark is a good place to start. I would read it through and then I would start reading in first book Genesis and read on through. Do not get hung up on trying to keep track of all the names in the various lineages and don't get bogged down in too much detail this first trip through the Bible try to do more of an over view. As you read remember the Old Testament is Jesus promised and the New Testament is Jesus fulfilled. Try to keep that in mind and see how everything in the Old Testament was brought to life by Christ in the New Testament. Most of all read the Bible not to finish it but to fall in love with it. We never finish reading the Bible. If you find an exciting story stop reread it, think about it, and if you have someone ask questions about it. If not come on back here and we will see if we can help you. |

116 | The Cross removed power of sin for all? | NT general | EdB | 242089
It is really hard to judge the beliefs on a church based on a few texts taken out of context. I can see accuracy in their statements as well as yours. Perhaps if you told us the name of the church or where we could read the church beliefs in context we would be better able to give you an answer. There is two judgments the Great White Throne and Bema seat judgment of Jesus. Many denominations believe in a millennium and many don't. I don't see Matt 27:52 as proving there are two different resurrections for the saints. Since we all sin and fall short, sin is not the dividing line between eternal life and eternal damnation. John 3:16 clearly gives the dividing line. Belief in Jesus Christ to the point of being dependent on Him for the forgiveness of our sin and our eternal salvation |

117 | Where did god come from | Bible general | EdB | 242086
By definition God must have no beginning or end or creator. If there was a creator then the creator would be God instead. John 1:1-3 (NASB) 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. |

119 | Difference between Sabbath and Sunday? | Genesis | EdB | 242078
God established the 7th day as the Sabbath. Man then named the days, with Saturday the name gived to the 7th day and Sunday the first day of the week. Gen 2:1-3, Ex 16:23-29 We call Sunday the Lord's day because it was the day the Jesus arose from the grave. Mt 28:1 and Luke 24:1 We (man) have created calendars to track this but we know the days have shifted but the intent is the first day of our 7 day week is the Lord's day and the last or 7th day in the Sabbath day. |

120 | How many Marys are there in the new Test | NT general | EdB | 242070
Actually the many scholars see 7 Mary's in the New Testament. With some questioning if there isn't 8. I have seen people combine them in various ways and come up with answers from 3 - 9 but it is almost impossible to be sure since some appearances of Mary could be the same Mary found else where but there is nothing in scriputure to confirm or deny it. 1 Mary, mother of Jesus 2 Mary Magdalene 3 Mary of Bethany 4 Mary of Clopas 5 Mary, mother of James 5.1 Mary, mother of James the younger 5.2 The other Mary 6 Mary, mother of John Mark 6.1 Mary Salome 7 Mary of Rome Sorry I wish I could offer a more definitive answer, but since scripture does not give us conclusive proof of actual number neither can anyone else. |
