102 | Your exegesis of Ecclesiastes 12:!3? | Eccl 12:13 | Hank | 2518
The NASB phrasing in Ecclesiastes 12:13 "because this applies to every person" strikes me as curious. Most versions render it "this is the whole [duty] of man" or something very similiar. What's your exegesis?

104 | When Is Enough Enough? | Is 6:5 | Hank | 103754
Dear Friends, Brothers and Sisters of the Forum: This morning I received a distrubing e-mail message from American Family Association. The Federal Communications Commission has aproved the use of the "F" word by all TV shows and radio programs, ANYTIME DAY OR NIGHT. When is enough enough, and what can Christians do about it? While we still have the liberty to do so, we can protest vigorously to the FCC and to our senators and representatives. We can protest to the TV and radio stations that broadcast verbal pornography. We can boycott sponsors who pay the media for broadcasting filth. We can refuse to watch TV or listen to radio programs that broadcast vile language, explicit sex, and raw violence. And we can pray that God will bring this nation to repentence and a moral and spiritual awakening. But we must not, we simply cannot afford to, sit back and let the dark forces of evil invade the sanctity of our Christian homes and dump their garbage in our minds and in the minds of our children and grand-children. I submit that for today at least our time would be better spent in prayer and peaceful protest than in posting our opinions of Scripture on the Forum. Yours in Christ Jesus, --Hank
105 | Two Christmases? | Is 9:6 | Hank | 106361
Tonight I heard a song on the radio. The lyrics: "Let's all give thanks to the Lord above, 'cause Santa Claus is coming tonight." ...... Tonight I read in Isaiah 9:6: "For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." ..... There are obviously two Christmases: the Christmas the world celebrates and the Christmas Christians celebrate. Are they compatible? Why or why not? --Hank

Only Matthew and Luke record anything about Jesus' birth. Only Luke says anything about His early years, and that but briefly. What event in Jesus' life captures more attention by all four Gospel writers than any other? Why, do you suppose? --Hank

116 | Christian Activism? | Matt 5:13 | Hank | 109724
The chairman and board members of the FCC have recently reversed their decision to allow the 'f' word to be used on the nation's airways. Massive protests by Christian men and women are in no small measure responsible for this 180 degree turnaround by the FCC. My question is, do you think it is Christians' responsibility to be activists and to do whatever they can to oppose sin publicly and vigorously by all legal and non-violent means available? [Where I stand: I enthusiastically applaud the action that put pressure on the FCC which effected a recission of their former ruling. I played a small role in it through the American Family Association (AFA)] --Hank
