2 | Celebrate Recovery | Not Specified | strts5 | 192447
Any thoughts on this program, perhaps someone is familiar with it. I was also told by someone it does not give room to Christ to actually change a persons heart??? You can check for other things I've posted here and am still in the same place, I want to change but don't know how. I've "thrust" myself into church, prayer, being active in the body, but always end up backsliding. I am also fairly versed in the bible and no amount of head knowledge has helped much either. I'm thinking I need to submit myself to a good pastor, shut up, and just do what he asks. Eight Recovery Principles based on the BEATITUDES by Pastor Rick Warren Principle 1 - Realize I'm not God; I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and my life is unmanageable. "Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor" Principle 2 - Earnestly believe that God exists, that I matter to him, and that he has the power to help me recover. "Happy are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted" Principle 3 - Consciously choose to commit all my life and will to Christ's care and control. "Happy are the meek" Principle 4 - Openly examine and confess my faults to God, to myself, and to someone I trust. "Happy are the pure in heart" Principle 5 - Voluntarily submit to every change God wants to make in my life and humbly ask Him to remove my character defects. "Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires" Principle 6 - Evaluate all my relationships; Offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for harm I've done to others except when to do so would harm them or others. "Happy are the merciful" "Happy are the peacemakers" Principle 7 - Reserve a daily time with God for self examination, Bible readings and prayer in order to know God and His will for my life and to gain the power to follow His will. Principle 8 - Yield myself to God to be used to bring this Good News to others, both by my example and by my words. "Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires" |

3 | Hebrew language? | Not Specified | strts5 | 192710
2 Timothy 2:15 (King James Version) Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. I am definitely the ultra curious type and want to know everything, so I decided it may help to study the Old Testament to know, or at least get a fair understanding of the language (Hebrew). I found a website (hebrew4christians.com), is anyone familiar with it. The reason I ask is because it gets very deep very fast drawing out all kinds of parallels not only of scripture and individual words, but even individual letters. It is very fascinating, however is it accurate? Mike R ps In a post a couple of days ago about evolution it may have sounded like I was siding with evolutionist, I wasn't. I have friends who believe "big bang, evolution, etc organized by God. ie, Intelligent Design". My side , creation. |

5 | Melchizedek and Shem | Not Specified | strts5 | 203925
I was recently reading a Pastor's notes for service and in it he basically said Shem (Noah's son) was also Melchizedek. I kind of scrached my head a little. Has anyone ever heard anything anywhere about this. It was a first for me.
6 | Carpenter or rabbi? | Not Specified | strts5 | 204341
I'm sure this has been discussed before but could not find any posts dealing directly with it. Was Jesus a carpenter or a rabbi? Typically Rabbi's didn't have jobs (I think) and also Jesus was doing the will of the Father. Joseph wasn't his father. Joseph did raise him though. I don't know if this has a diffinitive answere, maybe just two schools of thought. |

7 | Glorious church? | Not Specified | strts5 | 206107
Ephesians 3:7-11 ...to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, 9and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things. 10His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, 11according to his eternal purpose which he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. I was raised Pentacostal and remember the pastor talking about end times, and the enemy and to always be carefull or else... (use your imagination). I've also heard many preachers teaching doomsday and be on watch, because these other churches, etc... Are we really members of a weak, just barelly making it by church, or are we a glorious church known throught heaven that the enemy fears? Maybe I'm just on a tangent here. I visited a church last night, great worship, I always feel so buisy doing stuff at my church I can't just stop and enjoy. The sermon though, for some reason just jumped out at me like fingernails on a chalkboard. He was talking about how things are about to get get real difficult for the church and how many are going to fall away if we don't pray and do this and that, etc. I know there is truth to this in one aspect but also didn't Paul say , " many would fall away, if it were possible"? I don't know, but I am starting to feal we are much more united than many percieve, much more powerfull and glorious. Anyway, maybe I'm missing something, I would like to hear others thoughts on this. Are we weak and misserable or is it what God sais? In love, Mike |

8 | Holy Spirit convicts of sin? | Not Specified | strts5 | 215045
I was reading a book and came across a quote. At first it shocked me because I had always read this verse or heard this verse quoted wrong. I want to know if anyone has any input here? The Holy Spirit convicts us (Christians) of sin? No convicts the world of not believing in Christ! Convict Christians of Righteousness! John 16:8-11 8"And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment; 9concerning sin, (N)because they do not believe in Me; 10and concerning (O)righteousness, because (P)I go to the Father and you no longer see Me; 11(Q)and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged. |

What specifically was the Gospel Paul preached and do we have a specific example of it in Scripture?
10 | Rev 3:15-16 | Not Specified | strts5 | 215182
Rev 3:15-16 15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm— neither hot nor cold— I am about to spit you out of my mouth. I just heard a 'new' interpretation on this verse. One I have never heard before. It implied that this is verse is dealing with mixing the Law and Grace and not our 'walk' with Christ. Interesting to me, I can see where it could make sense, but I also feel as though this verse may be being used to fit someones own teaching. |

11 | 2 Peter 1:3-8 hows it work? | Not Specified | strts5 | 215246
2 Peter 1:3-8 3His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. 5For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. 8For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. The previous post caused me to look up the verse in its context, now I have questions. As I was reading it looks like verse 3-4 are the how to verse 5-8. Basically learning more about who HE is and His power IS the power to enable us to live out verse 5-8? Just looking for a sounding board here, am I stretching or do I get it? In Him Mike |

13 | Luke 10:1 | Not Specified | strts5 | 215445
Luke 10:1 1Now after this the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them in pairs ahead of Him to every city and place where He Himself was going to come. So Jesus sent out 70 people to 35 places He was planning on going. Jesus had a pretty tight schedule. Is it documented where all these people went and at which point in Jesus ministry this occurred? Was He already on His way to Jerusalem? |

14 | Is 53:5 | Not Specified | strts5 | 217740
Young's Literal Translation Is 53:5 And he is pierced for our transgressions, Bruised for our iniquities, The chastisement of our peace is on him, And by his bruise there is healing to us. I'm sure this scripture has been discussed, does someone have an ID# before I ask a question. Thanks |

15 | Eph 5:26 | Not Specified | strts5 | 221684
I went to a bible study recently and the pastor made a statement that really struck me. He said at salvation, you are saved, but your mind is not. It really made sense to me, and made many scriptures suddenly make more sense as well. I have been trying to make sense of the finished work at Calvary and renewing the mind, where if the work is finished why I must renew my mind with the word. I guess my question is, is your mind saved at the moment of salvation? |

16 | Amazing Grace! | Bible general Archive 4 | strts5 | 215206
John, Amazing! I visited a local church this morning and then went to my home church this evening. In the morning service and my home church in the evening they both used similar things in sermons that were completely different. I love to see how God plays "connect the dots" in subtle ways for us to see Him(maybe I'm nuts). The evening services was one of the best Easter services I think I have ever been in. He taught for five minutes, then we had baptisms and those baptized spoke for several minutes each and gave their testimony. And these were real baptisms, not a single person had been saved for more than six months, not ones where people are getting up to get their 37th baptism. They were all still giddy with the newness of their salvation, it was awesome! Any other Easter service testimonies out there? Mike |

I was in a Christian book store looking for a good parallel study bible, couldn't find one so I asked for help. The wonderful and well meaning clerk came over and pointed me, with all sincerity to a parallel New Living/Message. I think I did a good job af keeping a strait face... That was the best they had! 20 | Call from God! | Bible general Archive 4 | strts5 | 217394
You are Mine. You are not your own. With a great price I have purchased you for Myself. I am not dismayed that you do not comprehend, but I say that if you will listen to Me, I will reveal to you more fully so that you may know more clearly how vital you are to My purpose. There is work to be done, and I need you as a vessel through which to work. Not a vassal, but a vessel. I want to do a beautiful work. I need an individual to use who is not only available and suitable, but who loves Me in such a way as to enhance My creation. I desire not the kind of loyalty a soldier gives to his country, but a dedicated devotion of the type of love a mother feels toward her unborn child. There will be inconveniences to be borne, self-pleasing to be laid aside, sacrifices and pain-but what a blessed reward I have in store! Yes, in store for you, if you are able to let Me use you the way I desire. You are not unworthy; you are not unprepared. You have no reason to hold back unless your love for Me is too small. If this is the only hindrance, draw closer to Me, and I will pour My love out upon you so that your affection for Me may be deepened and perfected. Lo, I wait for you. Come to Me.
