After searching Sabbath and reading this post: Acts 2:1 Note Lev 23:15 stjohn Tue 11/3/09, 10:41am 21911 If Jesus said: Matthew 5:36-38. "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" 37Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'[a] 38This is the first and greatest commandment. And John teaches: 1John 5:3. This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, And God commands: Exodus 20: 8-11. 8 "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. And in Hebrews, the inspired, word says: Hebrews 4: 9-11. There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; 10for anyone who enters God's rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his. 11Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience. And Jesus confirms the Sabbath has significance in the future when he says: Matthew 24:20. 20Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. Why have all almost all the Church doctrine’s bowed to society’s corrosive influence and ignored the clear scriptures and changed what was written in stone by the finger of God? Did not Jesus warn us: Matthew 15:3-9. 3Jesus replied, "And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition? 4For God said, 'Honor your father and mother'[a] and 'Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.'[b] 5But you say that if a man says to his father or mother, 'Whatever help you might otherwise have received from me is a gift devoted to God,' 6he is not to 'honor his father[c]' with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition. 7You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you: 8" 'These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. 9They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.'[d]" Why do we ignore clear scripture and accept assumptions about other scripture as facts in order to validate custom? |

Why in Revelation 7:4-10 does the list of the 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel not list the tribe of Dan? Is this just one of the mysteries of the Bible that has no clear answer yet?

4 | Something about Cruelty in the Bible | Bible general Archive 4 | findrichard | 224408
Mary, it may be easier to think of this from a earthly perspective. Assume for a moment that you were walking down a busy street in the city having just completed you shopping. A gang of young men attacked you, took your purse and everything you just purchased. Then a few of the men began to physically assault you and you thought you were going to die. You looked around crying for help hoping others would come to your rescue, but they just watched and had pity for you. About the time you gave up hope and resigned to the fact you were going to die, a couple other men came to your rescue, they struck and killed your attackers. Now who would you appreciate more? Would it be the crowd calmly watching, having pity on you but not wanting to engage in any violence? Or would it be the men who killed your attackers? In the same way God, our creator, who loves us with more love than we are able to fully comprehend, could not stand by with pity. Out of love for his people he had to intercede for their protection. God continued to protect and rescue those who lived peacefully on his earth from the ones who chose an evil, violent, predatory lifestyle. Now if you agree with God's motives then don't judge his actions, for who can know better than God!

Revelation 20:10-12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. Revelation 20:15 If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. Matthew 13:20-21 20The one who received the seed that fell on rocky places is the man who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. 21But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away. |

6 | Can a believer lose their salvation? | Bible general Archive 4 | findrichard | 224410
Mary, Judas was not a believer as stated in John 6:64 "Yet there are some of you who do not believe." For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him. 65He went on to say, "This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled him." This is what Peter said about the matter in Acts 1:24-25 Then they prayed, "Lord, you know everyone's heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen 25to take over this apostolic ministry, which Judas left to go where he belongs." This scripture may answer your more general question concerning salvation. Matthew 13:20-21 20The one who received the seed that fell on rocky places is the man who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. 21But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away. |

lionheart, You are correct losing salvation is not the same thing as turning away from God and therefore rejecting salvation. The very nature of faith tells us we cannot lose our salvation. And the teachings of Jesus himself tells us we are capable of rejecting his Lordship in our lives. Can we claim the Lord's salvation and reject his Lordship? I think not. God bless
8 | Proverbs 3:5 | Bible general Archive 4 | findrichard | 224469
You have received two very good answers already, assuming you are already a Christian. If that is the fact, you have the Holy Spirit living inside of you as your guide. I quote: John 14:26 "But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you." He can't remind you of what you have not heard or read so read you Bible. You need to strengthen your faith which is done by reading scripture. To quote Romans 10:17 "Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ." So yes read and study your Bible daily, particularly the New Testament. You should be reading through this scripture from front to end over and over for the rest of your life hear on earth. Now don't just read it, do what it says, again quoting scripture: James 1:22 "Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." You must agree that whatever you exercise will get stronger - just common sense. Now the stronger your faith becomes the easier it will become for you to discern God's will for you. |

10 | Proverbs 3:5 | Bible general Archive 4 | findrichard | 224474
Brad, Jehovah's Witness do not believe Jesus was created by God. They believe John 1:1 is speaking of Jesus, however they translate "the Word was God" as "the Word was a god". But at the same time they believe there is only one true God. The way they resolve this is they say Jesus was an angle and went back to Heaven as an angle. But they recognize all power and authority of Jesus as Lord of Lord, King of Kings, savior, the only way to eternal life. We know that the definition of angle is messenger, so they are not speaking heresy from that stand point, but just as illogical as calling him a god. A lot of their beliefs rely on a lot of illogical conclusions. They violate the rules of logic, in other words, they accept a lot of assumptions as fact, while these assumptions contradict or ignore clear understanding of other scripture. No I am not a Jehovah's Witness, but I did study with with a well educated one for over six months. We went through their Bible Teach publication. It forced me to dig into scripture to confirm or deny their claims. For some I agree with, others are a possibility but not definitive, but most are in contradiction to clear scripture. Their core beliefs are Christian and therefore I believe they are saved by grace through faith. |

Brad, To quote the FIRST COUNCIL OF NICAEA - 325 AD THE PROFESSION OF FAITH OF THE 318 FATHERS We believe in one God the Father all powerful, maker of all things both seen and unseen. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the only-begotten begotten from the Father, that is from the substance [Gr. ousias, Lat. substantia] of the Father, God from God, light from light, true God from true God, begotten [Gr. gennethenta, Lat. natum] not made [Gr. poethenta, Lat. factum], CONSUBSTANTIAL [Gr. homoousion, Lat. unius substantiae (quod Graeci dicunt homousion)] with the Father, through whom all things came to be, both those in heaven and those in earth; for us humans and for our salvation he came down and became incarnate, became human, suffered and rose up on the third day, went up into the heavens, is coming to judge the living and the dead. And in the holy Spirit. And those who say "there once was when he was not", and "before he was begotten he was not", and that he came to be from things that were not, or from another hypostasis [Gr. hypostaseos] or substance [Gr. ousias, Lat. substantia], affirming that the Son of God is subject to change or alteration these the catholic and apostolic church anathematises. Not all of this is real clear to me but not scripture either. Take a look at this inventory of scripture. It is too numerous for me to post here, but is a very thorough account on the Trinity. http://www.heaven.net.nz/writings/trinity-02.htm? I am still reading through it myself. Richard |

13 | please check my calculation | Gen 11:26 | findrichard | 224457
Azure, If you can post your calculations it would be a lot easier to check, but you you made me curious so I asked the internet that question and here is what I found. Answers.com: According to Genesis, Noah was born 1056 years after Adam was created. At the time of his birth, all his direct ancestors were still alive, except Adam, Seth and Enoch. Again, according to Genesis, Noah lived 950 years. Abraham was born 1948 years after creation. So, he was born 892 years after the birth of Noah, who was still alive until Abraham was about 58 years old, although it appears they never met. Here is the break down I pulled from another site: Adam to Seth 130 to Enos 105 to Cainan 90 to Mahala 70 to Jared 65 to Enoch 162 to Methuselah 65 to Lamech 187 to Noah 182 totals 1056 years. From Noah to Shem 500 to Arphaxad 102 to Salah 35 to Eber 30 to Peleg 34 to Reu 30 to Serug 32 to Nahor 30 to Terah 29 to Abram 70 totals 892 years. Hopes this helps (and is accurate) |

If you read the verse above verse 12 Isaiah 29:11 For you this whole vision is nothing but words sealed in a scroll. The vision on the scroll is explained in the beginning of chapter 29. Read the whole chapter and it will become clear. That verse is not talking about a scroll, it is using a scroll in an example to explain the hearts of the people. They have turned away from God refusing to listen to and follow his direction. Isaiah 29:10-14 10 The LORD has brought over you a deep sleep: He has sealed your eyes (the prophets); he has covered your heads (the seers). 11 For you this whole vision is nothing but words sealed in a scroll. And if you give the scroll to someone who can read, and say to him, "Read this, please," he will answer, "I can't; it is sealed." 12 Or if you give the scroll to someone who cannot read, and say, "Read this, please," he will answer, "I don't know how to read." 13 The Lord says: "These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is made up only of rules taught by men. [b] 14 Therefore once more I will astound these people with wonder upon wonder; the wisdom of the wise will perish, the intelligence of the intelligent will vanish." Verse 14 explains their inability to think clearly. |

Greetings to all on this Lord's Holy Day. 13 "If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath and from doing as you please on my holy day, if you call the Sabbath a delight and the LORD's holy day honorable, and if you honor it by not going your own way and not doing as you please or speaking idle words, 14 then you will find your joy in the LORD, and I will cause you to ride on the heights of the land and to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob." The mouth of the LORD has spoken." |

Ariel, I am not Jewish so I cannot translate what you are saying although I am sure it is a blessing. I do strive to obey God's commands simply out of my love for my God. The only true God YHWH is my creator, and Father. His Son, Jesus is my Lord so I obey his commands, and because I also love him, it is my pleasure to do so. What a joy it is to be a son of God!
