azurelaw, you are right, I stand corrected. Curses was a bad word choice. Sorry, just a sinner saved by grace here. Being new to these forums, I was expecting a more positive spirit. It seems to me that as ambassadors for Christ we would spend our energies trying to reconcile scriptural truth in order to build each other up in the faith. This contradicting of one scripture with another is quite distasteful to me and I will not indulge in it. The seeming contradictions are because of our imperfect understanding, lets put off pride and see if we can come to terms with some of it for the glory of God. I do not think he is glorified in pitting one scripture against another. How can we expect to unify a world in Christ if we ourselves can not unify under one faith? I am not looking for an argument here but unity in the truth. Can't we as reasonable adults express our thoughts to each other without condemnation? Sincere or not, that was no way for a Christian to behave toward another believer or even toward a pagan for that matter. Somewhere I remember someone saying "Love your neighbor and love your enemy" To God be the glory, Amen. | ||||||

Searcher, sorry I don't know how my reply to you became 3 dots, but I will send you my thoughts again. It was not I who called the Sabbath the Lord's Holy Day, it was Isaiah in Isaiah 58:13. Isaiah did this not because the Lord established the Sabbath as holy in the law of Moses, but God made the Sabbath holy on the seventh day of creation. Now if God make the Sabbath holy, who can make it no longer holy? Silly question, only God can change what God has established. If anyone knows where in the Bible God removes that distinction from the Sabbath, I would love to know about it. I am not talking about assumptions where one supposition becomes the only possible conclusion. The fact that many here have jumped to the conclusion I am trying to change what day we worship is a perfect example of our inability to judge correctly. I would never suggest such a thing. If one were to ask me, Richard what day do you think we should be worshiping? I would reply, well every day of course, for that is what the New Testament Christians did and is the desire the Holy Spirit has put in me. What could be better than to be able to just walk down the street to the local gathering of Christians every day after work and join into the singing of psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Wow, just read through the threads for this question. Let me see if I have this right. Some things taught by the apostles are just cultural norms not God's view of holy living. Hmmm, so one day (in 2000 years) maybe homosexual lifestyle will become a cutural norm for the day and then it will become ok in God's eyes (no offence to the Lutheran church of course). Wake up America! If God's word says so, then it is so. What you think or believe does not change God's word. Cultural change is Satan's tool not God's. Satan turns up the heat very slowly so we do not even feel it. If our culture does not align with God's word, lets change our culture, not God's word and so deceive ourselves. Other examples that come to mind: 1. The time when a new day starts. 2. The meaning for the word love. 3. When the Sabbath is. 4. What is considered dressing modestly. |

The "church role" that she should be concerned about is the Book of Life that is kept in heaven. Jesus Christ, our Lord is the head of the church members listed in that book. All believers have direct access to the Lord Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit living inside them. Don't be lead astray as Jesus warned in Matthew 15:9 "They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men." The believers' concern for others should be sincere. Paul the apositle wrote this to the Corinthians in 2 Corinthians 13:10 "This is why I write these things when I am absent, that when I come I may not have to be harsh in my use of authority—the authority the Lord gave me for building you up, not for tearing you down." And the writer of Hebrews in Hebrews 10:25 "Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching" This is the issue: Galatians 5:6 ... "The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love." This is love defined: 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8Love never fails." To the best of my knowledge, ghosts are not mentioned in the Bible, unless you read the KJV, which calls the Holy Spirit the Holy Ghost. In my mind ghosts are in the same category as aliens, bigfoot, locknest monster, etc. They exist in the minds of those who believe in them. As for me I don't spend any time pondering the things of this world. My time pondering is for the things of God. Romans 12:2 "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." As for you spirit, assuming you are saved, the Bible says it best: Revelation 2:7 "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God." 1 Corinthians 15:35-53 "But someone may ask, "How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?" 36How foolish! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. 37When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else. 38But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body. 39All flesh is not the same: Men have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another. 40There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another. 41The sun has one kind of splendor, the moon another and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor. 42So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. Matthew 17:3-4 Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.4 Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah." There is no mention here of Moses and Elijah's appearance but because Peter recommended he build shelters for them and because of the first two verses above I suspect they looked like they did when they walked on earth. 1 Samuel 28:13 The king said to her, "Don't be afraid. What do you see?" The woman said, "I see a spirit [a] coming up out of the ground." 14 "What does he look like?" he asked. "An old man wearing a robe is coming up," she said. Then Saul knew it was Samuel, and he bowed down and prostrated himself with his face to the ground. 15 Samuel said to Saul, "Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?" This quote is from the NIV which calls Samuel a spirit, the NASB calls Samuel a divine being, and the KJV calls Samuel gods. Which is it, God only knows but he looked like an old man in a robe not a "ghost". We also know it was Samuel because verse 15 says so. Ok lets recognize God, our creator, is in control. We know from the verses above that we have his spiritual beings among us and they look just like people (or are invisible like the Holy Spirit). Do you know of any scripture in which God warns us that evil spiritual beings or demons can present themselves in a visible form? I don't and therefore my personal conviction is that demons can only enter into a living person or animal as described in the Bible. In which case they do not appear as "ghosts". |

You are absolutely correct, Paul is talking about standing firm in the faith and enduring the persecution resulting from that. Paul obviously had many physical persecutions in his ministry but he was a man, and without a doubt struggled with spiritual warfare within himself as he so eloquently talks about in Ephesians 6:10-18 "10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. You hit the nail on the head with 2 Peter 1:20. I have found, generally speaking, that the more explanation one attaches to scripture the further from the truth they tend to wander in their explanation. Searcher, thank you, you are a genius! Joseph was promised a double portion in Ezekiel 47:13 and there it is in Revelation! In Genesis 48:5 Jacob told Joseph when he blessed Joseph's two sons that Ephraim and Manasseh would be counted as his very own sons, and there it is in Revelation! God told Moses in Deuteronomy 18:2 that the Levi's inheritance would be in the Lord, and there it is in Revelation! Jesus was recorded as saying in Matthew 12:31 "And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven." and there it is in Revelation! Thanks for filling in the missing piece for me, you just made my day. We serve an Awesome God! |
