2 - I love my church. The people are open, loving and friendly. The pastors preach from God's word and with a passion for Jesus. The music and atmosphere are wonderful. But ther ARE other such places. God would lead me where I need to be. Bless...ArtS |

Yes we do. It means a ton. It is a gift Jesus gave us to remember Him by and to share in Him by. It is a tangable reminder that He lived and of the flesh and blood He gave to repay a debt I could never overcome. Bless...ArtS |

3 | Leviticus 19 talks about not marking you | Bible general Archive 1 | Rom831 | 29334
Leviticus 19:28 29 "You shall not make any cuts in your body for the dead nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the LORD. I believe this to be still talking about for the dead. it is not seperated by any punctuation indicating a seperate thought. At least I hope so! I have three. Two of which are "religous". One on my wrist has been a source of great help to me. I suffer from chronic depression. When I get real down, I can't help but occasionally glance at it. It is a simple "Christian fish" with ROM8:31 in it. When hard times come up, I might simply feel sorry for myself. But just a casual glance reminds me "If God is for us, who can be against us?" 4 | How important is your Church? | Bible general Archive 1 | Rom831 | 29344
10 years? Only two. But before that, I jumperd around a lot. I started out in one where they taught "this is the way it is and if you don't believe it you're going to hell." That pastor would leave and we'd get a new intern pastor who said "this is the way it is and if you don't believe it you're going to hell." But it was different than what the last guy said. Then another intern and the same scenario. Most of the ones I attended after that I simply didn't agree with their doctrine. I couldn't find it supported in the Bible and moved on (this was Jr. High/Sr. High time). I finally found one that I didn't disagree with anything they preached. I stayed there for a number of years (until a new pastor came and started doing all kinds of things I didn't like). Then, looking back, I realized that the reason I had stayed is because they didn't teach anything I disagreed with. But that was because they didn't really teach anything. Sermons were about smoking, drinking, being mean or rude, etc. No Jesus anywhere. Now I have found one that pretty much sticks with the Bible. There are a few places doctrines come in, but for the most part, I simply just disagree (most of them are small). There you go! Bless...ArtS |

Me individually. My dad didn't have anything to do with church and my mom's idea of church was telling me I was going wether I liked it or not. We never spoke about God or church as a family. That is until my dad died and I have no idea if he was saved or not. Then I started talking about it with my mom. I didnt want her to die without me believing I would see her again. Bless...ArtS |

6 | Bib Ref on weapons of war today being OK | Bible general Archive 1 | Rom831 | 29377
Also, when the soldiers come for Jesus, Peter uses his sword and cuts off one of the soldier's ears. Jesus does not rebuke him for having or using the sword, only for thinking that Jesus could not stop this if it wasn't meant to be. If weapons were wrong, Jesus would have told Peter so. 8 | Is Depression of the devil? | Bible general Archive 1 | Rom831 | 29841
I know this is an older post, but I wanted to throw this in. I suffer from Chronic Depression and have for many many years. Is it from the Devil? no. Adam and Eve were created perfect. They had no defects. When Adam sinned, the world became broken. Just look at all the things that happened immediately to Adam, Eve and the world becauseof the fall (Gen 3:16-19. As time progresses from then, more and more defects enter into our world, and yes, our bodies. This started with the fall and the further and further from then we get, the more these pile up on each other. Ever wonder why incest wasn't "wrong" until Exodus? Incest is bad because the genes between close relatives are too similar. If there is a flaw in one's genes, there is too great a chance that flaw might be present in the relative's genes and therefore cause a defect. Between non relatives, the chance that a flwed gene from one parent is also flawed in the other parent is pretty small. If one parent's gene has a flaw, the other parent's non flawed gene can take over. But in the begining, there were no flaws so none to be matched and no defects. But through 10,000 years, these have grown. Is my depression from Satan? No. Its from a broken world. Can greater faith in God cure it? Hmmm... God CAN cure anything, but doesn't necessarily cure everything. This is a burden I bear. But honestly, I have been able to help a number of people with depression because I know what they go through and can relate and be there for them because I too have it. Would I like to not have it? You bet! would I give it up if it meant not having been able to help the people I have? No. Bless...ArtS |

9 | IS PRODUCING"GOLD DUST"@CHURCH A GENUINE | NT general Archive 1 | Rom831 | 28843
I would question, why gold? Did Jesus ever produce material wealth as a sign? Tears, blood, wine from water, healings, food, I can see. But why gold? Gold, to me, is a sign of wealth, of possesions and greed. Not exactly the things Jesus was very big on. And if gold, why something so easilly hidden and not something that would be obvious enough to give Him glory and not just make one wonder "how'd he do that"? If Jesus had been given one fish and all of a sudden had two, I'd say slight of hand. But enough to feed 5000??? Bless...ArtS |

12 | WHICH COMES FIRST, THE RAPTURE OR TRIBUL | NT general Archive 1 | Rom831 | 29529
There are many views - pretrib, pre wrath, post trib, etc. But there are many verses that lead me to believe in pretrib. MT 24:29 "Immediately after the distress of those days " the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.' MT 24:30 "At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. 31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other. This can mean only one of two things. vs29 either referrs to Rev 4:1 or Rev 8:7. If it's 4:1 then vs 29 refers to the time preceding the tribulation where things start getting bad (spoken of throughout the NT and Dan 11). If it refers to Rev8:7 then vs 29 refers to the seal judgments. So, at MOST, we will be here for only the seal judgments and will miss the trumpet and bowl judgments and the 3 woes. So which is it? 1TH 5:9 For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ And what is the tribulation? REV 6:16 They called to the mountains and the rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! 17 For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?" Notice that in Rev 6, they are already speaking of suffering God's wrath which Jesus promissed us we would not. Since Rev 6 comes before Rev 8, the Above Matthew verse can't be speaking of Rev 8. So it must be speaking of Rev 4 which takes us out of the Tribulation all together. Unconvinced? Ok... Now read Daniel 11, particullarly verse 21 on. This describes the ruler who will be alive just before the tribulation/end times. Most of this describes a conflict in the middle east. Keep reading into 12 which is the tribulation (as in Revelation). Did you catch it? DA 12:1 "At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people--everyone whose name is found written in the book--will be delivered. 2 Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt. This is right at the begining of the tribulation. We know this because the rest of Daniel goes on to detail it. This is when we will be delivered, the dead will awake, some will go to everlasting life, some to everlasting death. Yet this isn't post trib, because all of Daniel still has to happen. 13 | WHICH COMES FIRST, THE RAPTURE OR TRIBUL | NT general Archive 1 | Rom831 | 29540
Thanks for your reply. It is very interesting. I guess I can kind of see this view and kind of agree. But, where would you put the events of Revelation? See, I believe these things (mostly) will occur before the rapture. In fact, I believe these are the same things I pointed to in the Daniel verses. In fact, I think they are happening right now. Where I think I differ, is in what we are terming things. I believe there will be wars (which always cause famines). I believe we will be persecuted more and more. I believe things are going to start getting worse and worse just as both the Matthew and Daniel verses say. But then, these days will be cut short and these things will end when Jesus appears (rapture). Then starts Revelations. Which is what I believe is the great tribulation. I see what we will be here for to just be the "birth pangs." Nothing compared to the 7 seal, trumpet and bowl judgments and three woes. Bless...ArtS |

14 | God's anger at Babel tower, why? | Genesis | Rom831 | 29337
I'd agree. God instructs them to go forth and multiply (Gen 9:1). But instead, they decided to build a city instead so they would not be "scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth." (Gen 12:4) Bless...ArtS |

Ok, so after the flood, God gave man animals to eat for food as well as plants. So, if before this man was not allowed to eat animals, why did Abel keep flocks (Genesis 4:2)? Bless...ArtS |

16 | Giving | Num 18:24 | Rom831 | 29570
We tithe to the Lord. Not to a particular church or even to A church. Give from your heart to God, be it your old church, your new church, the homeless, those in need, the ministery, etc. And it doesn't HAVE to be money. We see in the Bibles examples of tithes as grain, wine, oil, firstborn of your herd or flock, spice, etc. As long as you give from your heart to god, He is pleased. Because God loves a cheerful giver. Bless...ArtS |

17 | Is God really just? | Deut 32:4 | Rom831 | 30030
Is God just or not. This has confused me a bit. We all sin and all fall short. We are all sinners and the wages of sin is death. Just because we believe in Christ, doesn't make us any less a sinner. It is by God's grace alone that we do not end up where all sinners deserve. But that's the question. If a non believer dies, they go to hell. This is a just reward for their sins. But believers sin too. So wouldn't the just reward also be hell? And if we don't get our "just reward" but something else, then wasn't God being merciful and not just? I'm not saying this is a bad thing! Just trying to reconcile this in my head. Bless...ArtS |

18 | Is God really just? | Deut 32:4 | Rom831 | 31424
How does this fit with the teachings of Jesus? Are we as Christians told to be servants of believers only, or servants? Was the Samaritan wrong for helping someone who was not a Samaritan? Would he not have been better off passing the other by and only offering his gift to another Samaritan? Why should we go into all nations and not just to those nations who are more open to recieve the gift? Why should we try to rerach and baptize all nations instead of only a few select ones more open to the gift? Are we to love each other as Jesus loved us? Or are we to only love those we choose to love and its ok to hate and condemn the others as you say Jesus did by not offering any chance of avoiding eternal torment in the river of fire? When somone knocks and asks for a loaf of bread, should we give him a stone and only give the loaf to some of those whom we choose to give our gift? I'm sorry, maybe its my limited mind, but I cannot comprehend Calling God just, in any way, if He randomly chooses the majority of people and refuses them His grace and intern condemns them to hell. If Jesus paid the price, justice is served. If God offers his forgivness to everyone justice is served even if some refuse it. If God chose me over someone else to recieve His forgivness and chose that person to suffer in Hell, then that is not justice, that is not love, and it is not mercy. It is favoritism (a sin) to me and the ultimate cruelty (a sin) to the other person because it was not that person, but God who refused to love and forgive that sinner. If Jesus paid the price for us and offered it to everyone who would believe, He is loving and that love is perfect. If He paid the price that would cover everyone, but went down the list saying "You I choose to save, but you can burn in Hell" then He is cruel and what love He has is not perfect, but highly selective. That is just not the loving, perfect, loving God I know and worship. That is a hateful, mean tyrant. How can you be loving and merciful and choose that the majority of your creation will suffer torment for ever and ever? I cannot believe that. I hope this thread will be short, because honestly, I am closed minded on this. I just had to voice my extreme confusion on even the thought of this concept. I will not believe in a God that would be this cruel. |

19 | Is God really just? | Deut 32:4 | Rom831 | 31525
I mention the questions to point out that Jesus never once held back or instructed us to. While here, He gave to all and instructed us to do the same. Yet when it comes to salvation, you suggest He didnt do this. It doesn't fit. I never said any of us do not deserve hell, we all do. But if He chose me to gt Heaven, that is merciful to me. ut that means He also specifically looked at someone else and said "I will never forgive you and you will burn in Hell because I refuse to give you my love. I will make it so you can never come to me so I can be justified in condeming you to eternal torment because it is my will and desire that you spend eternity in the river of fire." And you better believe, if God chose me and not another person, thet IS a VERY good reason to boast. Throw your spin out here and tell me why its not. But sorry, it aint going to work. You say "perhaps, maybe Jesus didn't die for the sins of every single human being". Yet the Bible says He died for the sins of the world. Seems pretty inclusive to me. Please show me where Jesus' death did not cover all sins. No "perhaps" or "maybe". God may show love and mercy to me. But in your model, He by His choice alone, refuses it to the vast majority of His creation. Then He says to love each other as He loved us. So then, really, I only have to love a few peple. I can hate and condemn the rest, right? I was very careful of my wording. I worship the God in the Bible. God IS love (1John4:8). God does not show partiality (Deu 10:17), od shows loving kindness to ALL who call UPON HIM (Ps86:5), God doesn't love some, but the world (john3:16), He is not willing that even one shall be lost (Mat18:14). None of these fit with a God who refuses His love and grace to the lost. God saving some is merciful. But there are two heads to every coin. God refusing His love and mercy to others based soely on His decision alone, thus condemining them to eternal torment, is NOT loving or merciful. Bless...ArtS P.S. I am sorry I did not provide the scripture verses in the last post. I thought the things I was referring to were trecognizeable enough without them to realize they were scripture. |

20 | Is God really just? | Deut 32:4 | Rom831 | 31533
I wouldn't be boasting about anything I did, but in the simple fact that God chose me and not them. That's even a better boast. Because if I was bragging about me or something I did or had control over, the other person could simply do it to. But to say God chose me above them? The favoritism God sowed towards me is a HUGE reason to boast!!! "God chose me and not you! I go to heaven and you rot in hell!" "Not fair! How do I get Him to choose me?" "You can't! Ha ha!" "but I don't want to suffer eternal torment" "Too bad, God didn't want you!" Instead, having the offer of salvation available to all eliminates any chance of this. This gift becomes available to al. I can no longer boast this. Jesus paid the price for them as well. God chose them and showed no favoritism to me. That same conversation would be "God has chosen all who believe, and since I do, I'm going to heavn, since you don't, you're not." "Not fair! How do I get Him to choose me?" "You have to believe in His Son Jesus" "I don't want to suffer eternal torment" "Then accept His free gift" I loose my ability to brag because the gift is theirs as well. Not one of those verses does what you hope. Once you understand God didn't choose YOU but He chose those who would accept His Son, you understand how all those verses can actually be fully satisfied and still allow the rest of scripture to be true without spinning what is written. Bless...ArtS |
