1 | How sinful is "fallen away"? | Mark 4:16 | zach† | 38333
Joe; Putting our faith in Christ is not a stopping point, but is rather a starting point in the life of a believer. The idea of "let go and let God" has no scriptural basis. Consider the following; There is an eternal, and CONDITIONAL "if" in every consideration of eternal security. IF we walk in the light; IF that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son; IF any man draw back; IF a man abide not in me, he is cast forth; IF a man keep my saying: IF thou continue in His goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off: IF ye do these things, ye shall never fall; IF we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast unto the end; IF we endure; IF we deny Him, He also will deny us; IF we sin willfully..there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins; IF ye forsake Him, He will forsake you; ye are my friends IF ye do whatsoever I command you; IF ye live after the flesh, ye shall die. He that endureth till the end, the same shall be saved. Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things , ye shall never fall (2 Pet. 1:9-10) Concerning your second question: "How bad do we have to sin to fall out of grace?" I don't have the exact answer for that. All I can say is that while a single sin in the life of a believer isn't warrant for an individual to forfeit his/her salvation, continual persistence in willful sin Heb. 10:26 grieves the Holy Spirit, and if persisted in over time will harden the heart and result in quenching the Holy Spirit. Concerning your last question I believe scripture is very clear. The Scripture you used is clear that those who "have fallen away" cannot be "renewed" So that means that they once were renewed and cannot be again. I don't believe a person can be born again, and again, and again. This text says it is "impossible" to be renewed a second time. Once salvation is forfeited, after being saved the first time, there then is no second or third chance, seeing how these trampled under foot the Son of God, and regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace Heb 10:29 Hope that helps you understand my personal beliefs on this important matter . If not feel free to reply. Grace and peace be multiplied unto thee. zach† |

2 | Can a believer lose his salvation? | Luke 8:13 | zach† | 38163
Concerning Luke 8:13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for awhile believe, and in time of temptation FALL away. (Lk. 8:13 Mark 4:16-17) Fall in the above verse is the greek word aphistemi, which means to depart, or apostatize from ones once held profession of faith. In the above verse notice: 1. they hear the word 2. they receive the word with joy 3. But they have no root (this refers merely to the shallowness of their faith, or lack of depth) 4. They believe for awhile 5. Then FALL away (they don’t endure to the end) However they were believers for a time who did become apostates |

3 | Who's the one Lamech had killed? | Gen 4:23 | zach† | 38155
Greetings Scandinavian Disciple; While I know of no text in the cannozied books of the Bible that would make us conclude without a doubt that Cain was killed by Lamech, the unCannonized book of Jasher indicates that Cain indeed was the person that Lamech slew. However the book of Jasher is mentioned in the Bible. Garce and peace be multiplied unto thee zach† |

Greetings lonelyblue12; Heb. 6:6 NASB says: and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God, and put Him to open shame. This verse along with Heb. 6:4-6 was spoken to Jewish Christian's who had become convert's to Christianity from Judiaism, and is a warning for them to not forfeit their Christian faith in Christ Jesus. Although this was a warning to these Jewish Christian's (Messianic Jews) in particular, this is also a warning for all Christian's in all times, not to depart from the faith. You can also go to the "Quick Search" feature and type in Heb. 6:4 or to the "Questions on verses and type in either Heb. 6:4 or Heb. 6:6 and find more on this hotly debated topic. 5 | faith without actions a fool? James 2:20 | James | zach† | 37714
Greetings lerno; Good works can never earn salvation, but they must accompany it Charles Spurgeon has said "Although we are sure that men are not saved for the sake of their works, yet we are equally sure that no man will be saved without them." Scripture says; “faith without works is dead.” James 2:20, and Paul himself Says: “Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” Also we see from Matt. 7:21 that; only those which DO the will of the Father shall enter heaven. Also from Tit 3:8 we learn; “This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works.” Also Jesus Himself said; “My brothers and my sisters are those that HEAR God’s word and PUT IT INTO PRACTICE.” Luke 8:21 NIV James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. Faith produces good works and is the evidence of true saving faith in Christ Jesus, Grace and peace be multiplied unto thee zach† |

6 | how do you grieve the holyspirit | Eph 4:30 | zach† | 37526
Greetings ssv.1 Eph 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Believers can grieve the Holy Spirit when they sin, and live life-styles that go against the grain of the Christian life you profess. If an individual continues to live a life-style which grieves the Holy Spirit, it is possible to become guilty of "Quenching the Holy Spirit" 1 Thess. 5:19 In order to not grieve the Holy Spirit, we need to confess and turn from all known sin, and maintain unbroken fellowship with the Father and Son. 1 John 1:6-9 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Heb. 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, Study the above verses and ask the Lord for His guidance Grace and peace be multiplied unto thee zach† |

8 | Defense or offense? | Eph 6:10 | zach† | 36344
Mommapbs; Eph. 6 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (we are to get dressed for battle, we are in a spiritual battle) In 2 Tim. we are referred to as soldiers 2 Tim. 2:3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. 12 For we wrestle (wrestle indictaes struggle, real not imaginative) not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Eph 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; (Stand, histemi in the Greek, I believe refers to stand prepared and ready, not stand still and do nothing. If we only pray, then that is at least something that all believers should do. See verse 18) 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; Paul, said: 1 Tim. 6:12 FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT OF FAITH, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. 2 Tim. 4:7 I HAVE FOUGHT A GOOD FIGHT, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: If Paul fought the good fight, shouldn't we follow his example? Paul also said: 2 Cor. 10:3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4 (For THE WEAPONS OF OUR WARFARE ARE NOT CARNAL, BUT MIGHTY THROUGH GOD to the pulling down of strong holds;) The spiritual battle we are in requires that we have spiritual weapons, such as the word of God, and prayer, and faith. Even in the book of Hebrews we read of those who waged a spiritual battle and were commended for it. Heb 11:32 ¶ And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets: 33 Who through faith SUBDUED KINGDOMS, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, 34 Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, WAXED VAILANT IN FIGHT, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. I believe we ought to allow God to lead us into battle, and as He goes before us, and as we trust Him for the victory, He will bring it about. I think of the hymn. "Onward Christian Soldiers" Onward Christian soldiers, marching as to war. With the cross of Jesus, going on before. Christ the royal Master, leads against the foe; Forward into battle, see His banner go. Like a mighty army, moves the church of God; Brothers we are trodding, where the saints have trod. 9 | Who are the sons and daughters? | Gen 6:4 | zach† | 36248
Question: Who were the Nephilim? Were they fallen angels who intermarried with earthly women? Answer: The Nephilim were giants who lived on the earth at one time. They are mentioned in a couple of passages: Genesis 6:4 "The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown." Numbers 13:33 "There also we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak are part of the Nephilim); and we became like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight." The descendents of Anak were part of the Nephilim. The ten men who spied out the promised land became fearful of them, because they were so much bigger. Some people believe the Nephilim were offspring of fallen angels ("sons of God"), who married the "daughters of men." Genesis 6:4 says, "The sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose." The intermarriage of fallen angels and women produced giants, according to this theory. However, the problem with this interpretation is that angels aren’t able to reproduce. Jesus said, "For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven" (Matthew 22:30). Angels are a different order of creation than humans, so reproduction would be impossible. Another interpretation is the "sons of God" refer to the godly line of Seth, those who had retained a belief in the living God. The "daughters of men" refer to those from families who had abandoned belief in God. This is probably the more likely view, but doesn’t answer the question why their offspring were giants. We do know the Nephilim were giants, but as to who exactly they were, we just don’t know. Anything beyond that is speculation. Peace zach† |

10 | Once Save; Always Saved? | John 6:37 | zach† | 36120
JD; Let me assure all who may read these lines that the arrows and indictments which he may discover in these following comments are not directed against persons but against doctrines. Some sects declare that the same sin that damns the unconverted sinner, cannot send the Christian to hell. In other words, the sinner sins and is damned forever, but the Christian, who has been converted, may thereafter commit the same sins, but is merely - taken home to heaven! I have actually heard a professed believer say: "that if a Christian persisted in his sin, God would be forced to take him to heaven." If we follow this idea logically it means that a poor Christian who gets homesick for heaven and anxious to go before his normal time need only plunge into deep sin, thus making it impossible for God to use him here any longer. such a position would mean that the sins which damn a sinner will not damn a Christian. It would mean that the deadliness is taken out of sin the moment of conversion Which in turn means that the atonement of Christ, applied in regeneration, effects a change in the nature of sin. According to some, final salvation is not conditioned upon perseverance in obedience. The effect of sin after regeneration is absolutely nil in so far as its bearing on eternal life is concerned We need to answer the question: Was the atonement by Christ made to change the nature of sin, and thus save a man in his sin, or to change the nature of man and thus save him by separating him from his sin? Some teach that the atonement of Christ changes the nature of sin. They teach, the imputation of Christ's righteousness to the believer. This says not that sin itself has been changed in nature or has become less repugnant, but that it has been charged to the account of Christ, and his righteousness credited to our account. Some insist that sin breaks one's fellowship with God, but they insist that fellowship and eternal life are independent, and that one may lose fellowship with God without forfeiting eternal life. If the sins of the future are already pardoned, why should one repent of them when they are committed, or even attempt to avoid committing them? Unto you first God, having raised up His Son Jesus, sent Him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities Acts 3:26 Let the wicked forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts. (Isaiah 55:7) He that covereth his sin shall not prosper, but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall obtain mercy. (Prov. 28:13) The cry I repeatedly hear is: "Believe! believe! your sins were forgiven away back there on the cross; the work is all done, all you need to do is accept it." We were provisionally saved at Calvary, but not actually and personally. The death of Christ was an expiation for all men, but an acquittal for none. repentance is man's work, although the goodness of God leads you to repentance. God will not repent for man. Acts 17:30 declares "God now commandeth all men everywhere to repent" God would not command all men to do something that all men were unable to do. Thus, in the necessity of repentance we find personal responsibility. Continued salvation is conditioned on obedience. John 15:9-10, 14 Acts 5:32 Heb 5:9 1 John 2:4,9,15; 1:6; 3:10,15,24; 5:18 2 John 1:9; 3 John 11 A friend of mine heard a modern eternal security speaker addressing a large group of youth at a conference not long ago, say to the young people: "Girls and boys, be sure you are born again! Then if afterward you go into sin, and die in disgrace, I'll meet you in heaven." What's wrong with these pictures? 1. A man enjoys telling a dirty joke at work once in awhile, but doesn't see it as sin because he has been saved by grace. 2. Another person goes to a party and ends up getting drunk. Afterwards he doesn't think twice about it because God granted him grace. 3. Yet another man when 'hanging out with the boys' will cuss and swear once in awhile with no concern as to whether he's offended God because of the grace he received as a child. The examples go on and on: People using sexual innuendo's during conversations; people cheating on their income taxes or insurance claims; people having sex outside of marriage; people lying to one another; people showing disrespect to their parents; people willfully practicing all these things and if confronted about their sin displaying an attitude of "Oh, well, it's not that big a deal, after all I'm under God's grace". Again I ask, "What's wrong with these pictures?" Even those who might abstain from the sinful behavior in a self righteous way will still tend to question the Bible's authority and disregard anyone who tries to show them what God says in it. Yet, these very people claim to be a child of God through God's grace. Again whats wrong with these pictures? Grace and Peace zach† |

11 | Is 'once saved always saved correct? | John 6:37 | zach† | 31514
lynn; We cannot lose salvation, we can only forfeit it. Heb. 10:28-29 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for awhile believe, and in time of temptation FALL away. Then FALL away (they don’t endure to the end) However they were believers for a time who did become apostates There are many examples in scripture of individuals and whole churches who once held the faith, and later departed from the faith. Among these are names such as Samson (Judges 16:20) Saul (1 Samuel 16:14) Jehoram (2 Chr. 17:13) Amaziah (2 Chr. 28:27) Judas Iscariot, and also Hymenaeus and Alexander (1 Tim. 1:19-20). Take a look at the church in Ephesus (Rev. 2:4-5) and the church of Sardis (Rev. 3:1-3) and the church of Laodicea (Rev. 3:15-16). There are too many warnings in scripture for the hearers, to not believe that their are no real dangers for the Christian in departing from the faith. Verses containing words such as take heed, beware, be on your guard and watch. Why all the Bibical warnings to believers if there is as some assert no danger of departing from the faith? 14 | Divisions and disunity?? | John 17:21 | zach† | 35617
seeking; To me personally it is a sad day when discerning correct teaching from unsound teaching is considered to be devisive and unloving. Today's cry is for "ecumenicalism" which is defined as: "the organized attempt to bring about the cooperation and unity of all believers in Christ. For years, Evangelicals distanced themselves from institutional ecumenism because of the unsound theology of the programs involved and of the groups involved. Today however the spirit of compromise has invaded Evangelicalism. What were now witnessing is a growing emphasis on inclusion and tolerance. Sound doctrine and correction are despised as "divisive" and "unloving." Ignoring the Scriptures, numerous evangelical leaders today claim that concern for doctrine causes division and therefore should be avoided for the sake of love and unity among the brethren.. The Scriptures however, couldn't be more specific in it's opposition to such a teaching. Rom. 16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. It is the duty on the part of every Christian to work towards unity among true believers, while at the same time never compromising truth. Many leaders and lay leaders are being taught that doctrine is not crucial, and that to fight for the truth is unspiritual, some are even being encouraged to accept apostate denominations as genuine expressions of Christianity. Whenever I ask myself: how can Bible-believing Christian's accept many of the teachings held up today? This is the answer I come up with. Few read the Bible any more. Far too many people simply go along with whatever they are told is bibical, with no particular interest in checking it out for themselves. How many times have you heard that somebody was "causing division in the church?" Well maybe they were supposed to. After all, there are two things that cause division according to the Bible: truth and error. In Scripture Jesus said: "Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:" Luke 12:51 I have to keep reminding myself to the fact that the truth offends those who don't want to hear it. As far as unity is concerned: True unity is not sought by pretending that there are no differences, as modern ecumenists have done, but recognizing and respecting those differences, while focusing on the great orthodox truth all Christian's share. Among the essentials we can and should be able to share are: The virgin birth, the deity of Christ, the atonement, the resurrection, the authority of Scripture, and the second coming. I have to state again that it is my personal opinion that sound doctrine produces right living and unsound doctrine or teaching produces loose living. Just a couple of additional thoughts to add to this post. Many otherwise sound churches no longer preach the whole council of God so as not to offend the unchurched How can the church fulfill it’s place as the "pillar and ground of the truth" (1 Tim. 3:15) if it persistently compromises with falsehood and refuses to challenge error in it’s midst? Whatever is almost true, is false in this day in age it's getting tougher to distinguish the saved from the lost, because those who profess to be saved look and act more and more like the world through compromising with the world. I'd rather be divided by truth than united by error Finally; Truth without love is legalism, and love without the truth is humanism Grace and peace zach† |

18 | Is 1 John 1:9 applicable to Christians? | 1 John 1:9 | zach† | 34890
I know I am stepping in here very late but nevertheless please allow me to post my thoughts on this topic, for what it's worth. Let me start in 1 John 1:7 1John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us (continously) from all sin. who is the we that is addressed here? I believe the we is believers in Christ Jesus. It is only as we believers continually walk in the light that fellowship with Christ is maintained. Sin in a believers life brings broken fellowship. And in order to restore that broken fellowship we need to get right with God. Isaiah 59:2 says: "sin separates us from God. This separation is not separation from His love, but from fellowship with the Fatherand the Son. Continuining on. It is only as we walk in the light that fellowship continues and then the blood of Jesus Christ cleanseth us from all sin. Next verse... 1John 1:8 ¶ If we say that we have (present tense) no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. Again I ask who is the "we" in this verse? Is it not the author and us believers also, we being a plural pronoun. We know by experience that once we become Christian's we still sin, although we are not to make a habitual practice of sin. We are to confess it with the desire to turn from it. next verse.... 1John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Once again I conclude we is us believers (plural pronoun) The negative and opposite wording of this verse could read: If we don't confess our sins, He has not promised to forgive us of unconfessed sin, or cleanse us from any unrighteousness. At this point I think I must add, we don't confess to a priest, we confess to God. It is God we have offended and grieved with our sins. David said: against Thee only have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight:" (Ps. 51:4) Final verse.... 1John 2:1 ¶ My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: this helps clear this up for me. the text says: these things I write that you sin not. And IF any man sin we (us believers again) we have an Advocate with the Father which is Jesus Christ. So draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. RESIST THE DEVIL, and he will flee from you when you are tempted. Being tempted is not sin, we all will be tempted. But giving in to the temptation is sin. In Matthew 4 Jesus set the example for us when He resisted the Devils temptations, it was after He resisted that the devil fled from him. In Christ zach† |

20 | Who are the sons and daughters? | Gen 6:4 | zach† | 34772
reekid and everyone; In the non-Cannoized book of Jasher, there is much light shed upon the topic of the "sons of God and the daughters of men" Let me give a few verses to illustrate; Jasher 3:23.And in some time after, when the kings and princes and the sons of men were speaking to Enoch, and Enoch was teaching them the ways of God, behold an angel of the Lord then called unto Enoch from heaven, and wished to bring him up to heaven to make him reign there over the sons of God, as he had reigned over the sons of men upon earth. Jasher 4:18.And their judges and rulers went to the daughters of men and took their wives by force from their husbands according to their choice, and the sons of men in those days took from the cattle of the earth, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the air, and taught the mixture of animals of one species with the other, in order therewith to provoke the Lord; and God saw the whole earth and it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted its ways upon earth, all men and all animals. God said to Noah in Jasher 5:32.And thou shalt choose for thy sons three maidens, from the daughters of men, and they shall be wives to thy sons. If you desire to check out the book of Jasher which is a book mentioned in Joshua 10:13 and also in 2 Sam 1:18 it can be located at the following web address http://www.ccel.org/a/anonymous/jasher/home.html But please read it cautiously if at all.
