1 | What prophecies were fulfilled by Christ | Bible general Archive 2 | Yonose | 154707
That's quite a question you've got there. Not to say that we cannot find these prophecies or supprot them, but that Christ fufilled over 300 Bible prophecies when he became like one of us. The first place I would look would be Isaiah the "Messianic Prophet", or if you wanted to go deeper with this subject, I suggest you check the book; All the Messianic prophecies of the Bible, by Herbert Lockyer. Very hefty, but usefull. Here's some of the basic fulfillments: Place of birth - Micah 5:2- You Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from old, from ancient times. Fulfilled in Matthew 2:1- Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem. Heir to throne of David Isaiah 9:7- There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, On the throne of David and over his kingdom, To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness From then on and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will accomplish this. Matthew 1:1- a record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ the son of Davis, the son of Abraham. Born of a virgin Isaiah 7:14- Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel. Fulfilled in Matthew 1:18- Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: when His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit. His rejection by Jews Isaiah 53:3- He was despised and forsaken of men, A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; And like one from whom men hide their face He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. John 1:11- He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him. His triumphial entry Zechariah 9:9- Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; He is just and endowed with salvation, Humble, and mounted on a donkey, Even on a colt, the foal of a donkey. John 12:13-14- They took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and began to shout, "Hosanna! BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD, even the King of Israel." Jesus, finding a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written. Betrayed by a Friend Psalm 41:9- Even my close friend in whom I trusted, Who ate my bread, Has lifted up his heel against me. Mark 14:10- Then Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Jesus to them. Crucified with sinners Isaiah 53:12- Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great, And He will divide the booty with the strong; Because He poured out Himself to death, And was numbered with the transgressors; Yet He Himself bore the sin of many, And interceded for the transgressors. Matthew 27:38- At that time two robbers *were crucified with Him, one on the right and one on the left. Hands and feet pierced Psalm 22:16- For dogs have surrounded me; A band of evildoers has encompassed me; They pierced my hands and my feet. John 20:27- Then He *said to Thomas, "Reach here with your finger, and see My hands; and reach here your hand and put it into My side; and do not be unbelieving, but believing." His side to be pierced Zechariah 12:10- "I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have pierced; and they will mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn. Not a bone to be broken Psalm 34:20- He protects all his bones not one of them will be broken. John 19:33- When they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. His resurrection Psalm 16:10- You will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay Matthew 28:9- Suddenly Jesus met them. "Greetings," he said. They came to him clasped his feet and worshiped him. His ascension Psalm 68:18- You have ascended on high, You have led captive Your captives; You have received gifts among men, Even among the rebellious also, that the LORD God may dwell there. Luke 24:50-51- And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. While He was blessing them, He parted from them and was carried up into heaven. His second coming Acts 1:11- They also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven." Hebrews 9:28- so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him. |

2 | is masturbation a sin? | Bible general Archive 2 | Yonose | 154629
Dear Johnny-B, Okay, before I start, I realize that probaly a lot of people disagree with my answer, but I'm going with it anyway. Masturbation is not mentioned in the bible, so many people think that since this occurs, it's not sin or that it's okay in God's eyes to masturbate. Others think that masturbation is a gift from God so that we may resist acting those temptations. But how are we resiting these temptations by engaging in act that entertains them? Also, in sermon on the mount in Matthew 5:28 Jesus tells us "But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart". Now is lust present in the mind. Of course. Therefore I think it is appropriate to argue that since most sexual sin and maturbation is initiated by lust, it qualifies as a displeasing act against God or sin. Though I guess the other thing to keep in mind is that the masturbation is not the sin, it's the lust behind (even though I personally believe they go pretty much hand in hand) God created sex so that it would be shared between a married man and woman only. He condemns all types of sexual immorality in Leviticus 18:6-8, 22-23, including incest, bestiality and homosexuality. (If my thoughts were going in much more of a disorganized order I'd stop, but I think I'm almost there). Though becuase this topic is interpreted many different ways, you may have thoughts completely different than I do, but it works for me and I honestly don't see any harm in calling it a sin, because the abscence of this act is largely beneficially in your focus and walk with Christ (again that's my opinion). Well, I have completely strained my brain of all distractions and random thoughts, so if that helps you a bit, then great. Now if you agree with me, you might want to look at this site, xxxchurch.com. It's very liberal, but the pastors have right idea in getting the message out. Here's also a great book for looking deeper into this topic; Every Young Man's Battle, written by Stephen Arterburn and Fred Stoeker (available in any Christian book store) |

3 | Disciple that Jesus loved in John | John | Yonose | 154593
Hello nekkie72, John is referring to himself in this verse as he does in other instances. However, this does not mean in any way that Jesus loved John more than the others or that he did not love the others at all. Actually I find this phrase somewhat egotistical for John, considering that he, his mother and james his brother, approached Jesus asking that they would sit on on his right and left in the kingdom of heaven. Well, if this helps at all, hoo rah. |

4 | Help on Acts2:20 | Joel 2:28 | Yonose | 154574
I would refer to where the excerpt came from, in Joel 2:28-32, because it includes the end of 31 of 32, thus it explains what the passage is hinting at. The sun and moon refrence is pointing to the end times as is suppported through Joel 2:31 "of the great and dreadful day of the Lord". Now considering Joel was meant to warn Judah of God's wrath and judgement in the end times and their own need for repentance, I think it's somewhat safe to say that this can be taken literally. If I'm wrong in anyway, which happens a lot, please tell me. |

5 | what are the seven seal judgements? | Revelation | Yonose | 154571
mmhmm, First of all, the book of Revelation is very complicated (yes, it's an understatement), but it truely means nothing as far as our salvation is considered. I guess what I'm trying spit out is that you should be very careful in reading it as to not try to dissect every word, every line, every verse. Not only does it become more confusing, but you are now bent on translating the end of the world and Christ's return (not a great thing to do). Anyway back to your question. Seven is a number used frecuently in the book of Revelation, it's meaning is that of perfection and completion, first used in the story of creation (Genesis 2:2-3) In order to grip an understanding on the seven seal judgements you must also observe the four horses and riders. The horses and their riders represent God's judgement on our sin and our rejection of God. They each have a different color that resemble a different part of God's judgement. So really quick; the rider on the white horse in the first seal is quite possibly Jesus, becuase he does not have much to do with destruction and death. He is the conqueror and is later seen riding on a white horse in chapter 19 verse 11. The others represent different parts of the destruction, red for war and bloodshed, black for famine, pale for death. So let's try and do this again. First seal: Jesus the Conqueror. Second seal: warfare and dissension. Third: Famine or food runs dry, illustrated by cost of wheat and barley. Forth: death which is cleary stated in the passage with Hades i.e. Hell, eternal punishment "following close behind him". Then it says that the four riders were given control over one fourth of the earth, which could mean that God's judgement is still in the process, it is not yet complete. Fifth seal: the altar is the altar of sacrifice in the Temple. The souls of the slain, are those of the martyrs. The seal is stating that those who stand firm with God against all oppressive and opposing forces will be rewarded by him in heaven. Sixth seal: a universal judgement, not just limited to a specific area, a God so powerful where every inch of the earth trembles. Seventh seal: a bit farther into the book after the 144,000 (or all of God's people) have been "sealed" or saved. Following the opening of the seventh seal is silence, the completion of that stage of God's plan for all of his creation. I know these thoughts are a bit scattered, but they all have there own relevance so just try to find them... |

6 | Jesus did after John the Baptist died | Matt 14:6 | Yonose | 154561
Hello and happy sublime Saturday Poverton, To answer your question you can refer to Matthew 14:6-14. After the decapitation of John the Baptist, his diciples told Jesus of the tragic event. Jesus then left the area privately on a boat to find some quietness from his busy ministry. However, the crowds found out and followed him on the land. But the most striking thing to me in this passage, is that even though Jesus was interrupted in his time of mourning by the crowds, he still had the humility to put himself below them, and thus he had compassion on them and helped even though in our strandards he obviously had the right to turn away and return to his mourning. Well anyway, my mind is kind of skipping around a lot right now, so if that makes any sense... awesome. |

7 | Were the laws harder on women | Bible general Archive 2 | Yonose | 153952
Please excuse me for my ignorance, but I don't exactly understand what you're saying. God protected women in almost every circumstance under his law. In adultery, the betrothed woman and or a virgin is protected under the law where she would otherwise be put to death in Deut. 22:23-24. Women are granted justice in miscarriage caused by someone else in Exodus 21:22. Men who raped betrothed women were put to death (Deut. 22:25-27. However, men who raped unattached women were only required to pay a fine and propose marriage to the victim (which I find somewhat odd)(Exodus 22:16-17;Deut. 2:28-29). Widows were treated with care and given oppurtunities to preserve their self-respect (Deut. 24:14-15, 19-22). Women were also gratnted the right to divorce their husbands who had committed adultery. They were granted respect and care during their menstrual period as to not allow sexual relations between man and wife. Now, as for Pharisees and how they, well, "edited" God's law and added their own interpretations to it, I can easily see how women would have been and were "slided" through the Pharisees sexist attitudes and selfishness. Alrighty then, Please excuse any confusing items you find in this, it's hard having ADD while you're still a teenager. |

8 | Uncover Feet? | Bible general Archive 2 | Yonose | 153950
Yeah... I just now about to answer my own question. Ruth did not literally uncover Boaz's feet, but the phrase "uncover his feet" means to go down to the city gate and search a list posted there, in order to find where someone's "semi-official" residency at the threshing floor is (a place where landowners would spend most of their time). So to translate; Ruth went and found where Boaz was lying by uncovering his feet at the Threshing floor. okay i'm done now. |
