1 | what does baptism reveal to the world? | Acts 2:38 | Harmonizer | 85322
This scripture tells us that baptism is for the forgiveness of sins. Many people say that it is an outward sign of an inward faith, but that answer is no where in scripture. This scripture says it is for forgiveness. Acts 22:16 says it is for the washing away of sin. I hope this very short answer helps.
2 | Jesus' name baptism? | Acts 2:38 | Harmonizer | 85321
I read several responses to your question, but not all so if this is a repeat sorry. Here is my short answer. Remember all scripture must harmonize. Matthew 28 does not cancel out Acts 2 nor the other way around. These two must harmonize. So how do we make these harmonize along with all the other baptism scriptures. Simply what is the NAME of the father? what is the NAME of the son? what is the NAME of the Holy Ghost? Jesus said name - singular, not names. Father is not a name, son is not a name, HG is not a name - these are titles. So what is the one name that fulfills this command. The apostles had the revelation that Jesus (Jehovah-Saviour) was that name. God has many titles, but there is one name that is above every name that we must be saved by Acts 4:10-12. If the apostles messed it up how could any of us even think that we could get it right? All scripture must work in harmony. In this case to make these scriptures hamonize - Jesus is the name of the father - the name of the son and the name of the Holy Ghost. I hope that makes sense and helps.
3 | Speaking in Tongues and filled with Holy | 1 Corinthians | Harmonizer | 85319
The word tongues means languages. Acts chapter 2 shows the first time people spoke in 'tongues'. There were 17 different nations represented so there were at least that many different languages being spoken. In the book of Acts (the historical account of the preaching of the Apostles to the unsaved) When someone received the Holy Ghost there was an outward sign (see chapters 2,8,10,19). These people all spoke with tongues. I Cor 14:2,4,14 partially explains that this is an operation of the Spirit of God to benefit a person in their prayer life. Not to be confused with the gift of tongues which is accompanied by the gift of interpretation for the benefit of the church. Remember this in your study of this subject all scripture must harmonize and we must rightly divide the word in order for that to happen. The epistles are written to saved people addressing christian living issues. The book of Acts is the historical account of the people obeying the gospel and what happened. A proper understanding of the 'tongues' issue will not come from reading I Corinthians only - that must be balanced by what we find in the book of Acts. Hope this helps.

7 | Speaking in tongues? | 1 Corinthians | Harmonizer | 85315
The answer for this question is not in the book of Corinthians. It is in the book of Acts where we find the 'historical account' of people being filled with the Holy Ghost and what happened when they received the Spirit. When does a person receive the HS, what happens if anything and is there an outward 'sign'? John 3:8 says that we cannot see the wind but we 'hear the sound thereof - so is EVERYONE that is born of the Spirit'. Consider this verse and then look at the actual historical accounts of people receiving the HS in the book of Acts. Acts chapters 2, 8, 10, 19. Chapter 8 does not tell us exactly what happened, consider the story line. These people believed, were water baptised in the name of Jesus, but they had not yet received the Holy Ghost! This was a separate, distinct experience from belief. When Peter and John came down and prayed for them they received the Holy Ghost. The Simon(the former sorceror) offered them money that he could have that same power. Something supernatural happened that Simon observed. (Note that he never offered Phillip money after he saw healings, miracles, devils cast out.) So what happened? If we make this harmonize with the other examples we know that these also had an outward sign (speaking in tongues). Isn't it strange that most places where they teach that 'speaking in tongues' is a gift, but not for everyone - no one there has that gift. It could be a church of 1500 yet no one speaks in tongues. That's because "these signs shall follow them that 'believe' ... they shall speak with new tongues..." There is a difference between 'speaking in tongues' and the 'gift of tongues'. Which if you read I Cor 14 Paul discusses this(vs.2,4,14.) When a man is speaking in tongues his spirit is praying and he is edified. When a person operates in the gift of tongues it is accompanied by the gift of interpretation by someone as a message for the church. I hope this little bit helps.
8 | Must a woman have long hair | 1 Corinthians | Harmonizer | 85309
The principle Paul is addressing is for a woman to have a covering(vs. 5). Paul says that her hair is her glory and it is given to her for a covering(vs.15). Paul also calls upon nature itself to show us that men should have short hair and women should have long hair. What is long? I know women who never cut their hair and it only grows to their shoulders. My wife has not cut her hair in 14 years and it is still growing now passed her knees. The balance of everything Paul is telling us is that a woman's glorious covering is uncut hair to whatever 'length' it grows. How else would we measure length? Paul is really addressing the issue of shorn(cut)and shaven (shaved) hair. Paul also says that there is power on the woman's head becauseof the angels. Uncut hair shows a sign of submission. Here is a short story I heard from a preacher who was on the foreign mission field. He and the missionary had come across a local witch. She began yelling at these men and then she bent over and hung her hair down and shook it. The missionary then explained that this woman was trying to curse them by her gods and she was multiplying it by her hair. He then said even the devils(fallen angels) know that there is power associated with the womans hair. Hope this helps. Remember God would not put something in the Bible if it was not important. This is not Pauls ideas or some cultural problem this is an authority submission issue. For both men and women hair is important to God that's why it is in the Book.
9 | Christians? | James 1:22 | Harmonizer | 85307
II Timothy 2:15 - We must rightly divide the word. Most people take their 'salvation' scriptures from the epistles which were letters written to people who were already saved. The historical account of the verbatim preaching of the apostles to lost people on how to be saved is found in the Book of Acts. This is where we can read the actual accounts of people being born again (born of water and the Spirit). Here we find the apostles obeying the great commission and the people obeying the gospel. Acts chapters 2,8,10,16,19 specifically. Here the preaching of the Apostles encompasses more than just belief. I hope this helps.
10 | no interpretation allowed | 2 Pet 1:20 | Harmonizer | 85210
We would hope that each of our interpretations would be Spirit led. Unfortunately the flesh gets in the way. Look in the greek dictionary for that word interpretation does it have the same meaning in modern english as it did in 16th century english? I have found the best way to understand the Bible is to let scripture interpret scripture. Meaning whatever I am studying I should seek out many scriptures on that subject in order to get the proper view. All scripture must harmonize if something doesn't sound right I must need more 'keys' to get the right harmony. One scripture can not cancel out another all scripture must flow together like the keys on a piano. The piano can be in perfect tune but the sound changes on how you put the notes together. 11 | Can you lose your salvation? | Revelation | Harmonizer | 85205
Read Romans chapter 11. Paul is telling the believers in Rome that they should be careful lest they are removed from God's people. Also read Hebrews chapter 11 where those that trod under foot the Son of God shall be worthy of sore punishment. The most well known 'grace by faith' scripture is in Ephesians chapter 2. However what is the real definition of grace. The definition from the Greek dictionary in Strongs Exhaustive Concordance is 'the divine influence upon the heart and it's reflection in the life'. So lets read that scripure with the definition. "Saved by the divine influence upon the heart and its reflection in the life through faith. And that not of yourselves. It is the gift of God. Not of works lest any man should boast." This is why Paul says that works are no more works and its the grace of God that works in me. All scripture must harmonize so to understand if a person can lose their salvation we must understand what saving grace is. If my actions don't reflect God's influence, how much 'grace' is working in my life? Hope this helps.
12 | Why did Satan want Moses bones? | Revelation | Harmonizer | 85202
The scripture states that the dispute was over the "body" of Moses. Consider a couple of things in order to try and make this text harmonize with other scripture. Moses said that there would be a prophet in the future "like unto me" himself. Also we know that the church is the "body of Christ". It seems that the dispute over the 'body of Moses' would more likely be over the nation of Israel as a whole. Which eventually Satan obtained control over. Because in Corinthians Paul states that the 'princes of this world (devils) crucified the Lord of Glory.' They did this through the people of Israel. Peter preached 'this same Jesus whom YOU have crucifed, God hath made him both Lord and Christ.' This seems to make much more sense and harmonize better than any other explanation about Moses' physical body. |
