You do not know if the answer received to a question is from someone that is "educated" in the Bible. That is why Scriptural evidence is usually given to support the answer to the question you may ask. I do not recognize a Teaching Magisterium(sp?) but only the Word of God. People will make errors. Having said that, I will, in many cases, stand on the work of those who have come before me. I do not know Greek or Hebrew or Aramic. The rule for me is to never compromise on the foundational doctrines. But as for the rest, we may agree to disagree - agreeably. Please believe me when I say that there are countless Christians (monitors you said)at this site who will endevor to respond to anything that is not Scriptural. They will offer the evidence to you. You must weigh all the evidence and pray for understanding. And, yes, there are a bunch of those pesky "false prophets" as well. You will come to know the difference - almost instantly. Many people (non-believers?) just try to get under the skin of Christians. But they do not know that they can not do it. Because of who we are, and where we find the answers. I do not always know where to find some of the answers but someone at this site inevitably will.
2 | Did we witness a miracle this week? | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 16656
A good question that I ask myself everytime I here of a disaster. "Did the Lord save lives (from physical death)?" There was no apparent supernatural intervention evident to your specific point. i.e. the number of deaths. I believe that the Lord's intervention may have come before, or even during and after the attack and that prayers were answered. We have no way of proving how many people "should have died." The collapse of the buildings was a direct result of it's design. It could not have "[fallen] a little left or right." God gave us intelligence, the building was an intelligent design. It was not designed to collapse, of course, but only He knew that it would. God Bless America!

4 | Is it a sin to play the lottery? | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 16669
You can not find it because it is not there. Many will talk of stewardship or how it is not your money after all. I agree with those positions. Gambling as a form of entertainment, they will claim, is missing the mark. So ask this. "What forms of entertainment am I allowed to buy with HIS money. May I use HIS money to go to a show or a ball game with my children? My I use HIS money for any form of entertainment at all?" Some would say no. They are part of a particular denomination of Christianity perhaps. They are the same as those who would have us not drink wine, such as our Lord did, with a meal.(There are many churches that use grape juice for wine even though the Bible is very, very clear on what constitutes the elements. And please don't let them tell you that the wine of HIS day was weaker-it was not as weak as their argument is.) If you are not being entertained by gambling then you may be doing it for any of several "wrong" reasons, and then there is plenty in Scripture to rely on. But for entertainment purposes - it's HIS money (and representing your effort)and HE really does want you to enjoy your life.

6 | Possible Lockman Forum Improvements #2 | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 18057
It is a chat room in time delay mode. I am very new to this forum, and pretty new to Christianity as it is intended to be understood. I have spent a lot of forum time reading, what must be considered, personal notes, when I intended to search for an answer. I got caught up in it pretty quick myself and I apologize for not seeing the better use for this forum. Your limits on posting are intended to help people like myself. It is not confussion that reigns, it is the time wasting practices. The StudyBibleForum.com is for the layman and a limit of three(possibly wrong)ideas does not help. I enjoy reading the points of view. But as I scroll the thread I come across lots of wasted time so that your idea of staying focused would be a great help. There are lots of old friends at this site it seems and the StudyBibleForum.com is for them also. As it is stated by the Lockman Foundation "for teacher and scholar, it's an opportunity to freely share your knowledge." Perhaps someone could suggest to the Lockman Foundation to put a "chatroom" link together. That would permit "side issues" to be taken up and old friends can affirm scholarly pursuits. God Bless, Jensen |

COMMENT................................... I have a possible Starting Block for trying some of these things you suggest and test for any resolve:) I have put "comment" as the starting line of a post followed by several of these........:) As a new(er) visitor I can skip comments if I am searching for something else in my study. He who posts shall know if the post is on focus or if it is a "comment". Comments are mostly social, for example; ie. apologies, clear statements, how's your sister. (Sorry I could not resist, but I'm growing) What do you think? The forum does not have to have a limited thread and friends can stay in touch. |

8 | Christian Primer Terms? | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 18183
RE: first class in terminology. May I suggest the word "creation." You live in a land where all is a part of god. But, by definition, the Creator can not be part of His creation. And some of Him or His image is on the canvas. But He is not the canvas. (Gen 1:1) Jensen P.S. Thomas Jefferson reduced the Bible to what he believed to be essentials and was used by missionaries to the American indians, who were also Pantheists. Bless you in your work. |

10 | How do we know the Bible is the truth? | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 18187
There are over 1200 Old Test. prophecies that have come true. None have been false. Thats a pretty good track record. Some are yet to be fullfilled. There is a lot of literature with all the specifics such as that which was mentioned "Evidence that demands a verdict" in any good book store.
11 | Only seal and horse in same verse Rev6:5 | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 18189
Chapter numbers and Verse numbers were added much later and well after the original manuscripts were written. There was no intention by the original writers for these two words to be part of the same number since numbers for verses were not condidered. So there is no importance to the coincidence. 12 | FATHER fixation? | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 18720
PERSONAL NOTE - CHARIS I am fixing on the Father because I try to fix on God. When I think of God I think of the FATHER. When I think of JESUS I think of the Son knowing that God is implied to another Christian. When I think of the HOLY SPIRIT, I think of His image He gave me when I was Created, but God is still inferred by other Christians. I think that using all CAPS is giving praise to GOD knowing what the OT copiests went through before they wrote the name of God. God has our respect and we may choose to show it by doing little things as part of our daily lives, like using CAPS. Also, Sir Pent is trying to get us organized a bit. One of the suggestions was that we try real hard to stay on topic. I wouldn't even mention it but you have always been kind and respectful in your notes and so I believe you will take the suggestion in the right way :) GOD Bless Jensen |

13 | Juice/wine poll results? | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 18763
The unofficial results are in!!! The people on the Forum are like everybody else :) First, I have no home church. Large, non-denominational churches that I attend universally use grape juice. Catholic churches I attend use wine. Smallest churches use either, and in my home we use wine. It is a curious thing for me. And as a newer believer, and Solo Biblia, I just keep coming back to the fact that Jesus blessed the wine not the grape juice. I wonder at what point the Protestant churhes began substituting. And why they began can not be that important. There was a camping trip for the youth of a particular church that used Pepsi Cola and cookies as elements while camping. Please do not give this much thought. Debate not divide. It's just da darndest thaaang :-) God Bless Jensen |

14 | Overcome by the power of God? | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 19632
Dear Alp...Welcome to the forum :-) You quoted "'I am He'" from John 18f. But it may be "I am he" with small h. They were not asking for God but a man from Nazareth. They were acting on orders from their military superiors and being led by a civilian named Judas. They were carrying a lot of equipment (torches, lanterns, weapons) and I want to draw on some personal experience if you will indulge me :-) I remember the military service I performed. I was in the infantry and we walked everywhere. Long distances through various terrains were common. We were not sure, if we had a hint, of where we were going, and what the objective of this walk was for. We followed orders. But one thing I recall (with some humor due to the variety of clowns in our bunch and the circumstances)was when we finally reached our objective and were told to take a break by order, or by general acknowledgement that the objectives coordinates had been met, and dependent upon the situation at hand, many of us with me included, would just fall to the ground "in place",ie. wherever we were standing. Just fall in place. Is it possible that those who fell to the ground, not to include Judas (?), were just glad to be there. It was observed, it was recorded. It became a part of the historical record. Jesus was not a threat, was He? That may be the difference in reading the verse with a capital "h." But I am a history major, and have this mindset :-) So "slain in the Spirit" is not part of this verse to me. Due to my own experience in similar situations. and imagination is part of His Image. God Bless....Jensen |

15 | Overcome by the power of God? | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 19726
Summary...Thusfar..... The KJV has "...they went backward, and fell to the ground." And has "I am" or "I am (he)" with a small "h". We have now looked at four translations. They are NIV, NASB, NLT, KJV. 1. The KJV has the best translation of the Greek according to the post of our own resident Greek expert(:)) Tim Moran. The NIV may be tied with the KJV. The KJV has "he" as a parenthetical and lines up with Tim's translation better for that reason alone. The NLT is furthest from the literal and, as an aside and only my opinion, is why the NLT should not be used for in-depth study. 2. There is no evidence, thusfar, that the detachment was "slain in the spirit." |

18 | Salmon | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 19889
Here are the verses that contain "Salmon"; There does not seem to be any reference to two babies. At least directly. They all seem to be geneologies. There may be a secondary connection perhaps thru the mother or the father but I have not studied further. RU 4:20 Amminadab the father of Nahshon, Nahshon the father of Salmon, RU 4:21 Salmon the father of Boaz, Boaz the father of Obed, 1 Ch 2:11 Nahshon was the father of Salmon, Salmon the father of Boaz, 12 Boaz the father of Obed and Obed the father of Jesse. MT 1:4 Ram the father of Amminadab, Amminadab the father of Nahshon, Nahshon the father of Salmon, MT 1:5 Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab, Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth, LK 32 the son of Jesse, the son of Obed, the son of Boaz, the son of Salmon, the son of Nahshon, Obed the father of Jesse, God Bless....Jensen |

19 | lent..biblical or doctrinal? | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 19893
Lent is one of the Liturgical Seasons. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC). "1168 Beginning with the Easter Triduum as its source of light, the new age of the Resurrection fills the whole liturgical year..." Scriptual support LK 4:19 "to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." Which is from, ISA 61:2 "to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn," The liturgy of any particular period of time depends on the circumstances. That is, either leading to, or following Easter. "...celebrating this annual cycle of the mysteries of Christ,..." as the CCC puts it. So here it is. LENT, which is this period of time leading to the Risen Christ Jesus is biblical. It is based on Scripture. It is also a church doctrine. The Catholic Church, among others, observe it. More Love Scripture...Song of Songs Depending on your congregation, this Book has all kinds of possibilities. Read it over with "youth" in mind and be led. Or read it over with "seniors" in mind and be led. Or husbands and wives, and then you may want to put a little in there for each in a mixed age group. God Bless....Jensen |
