1 | What answer was Samuel expecting? | 1 Sam 8:7 | Makarios | 12042 | ||
Blessings, Samuel was expecting the Lord to answer him as "Yea" or "Nay" concerning the issue of appointing a king for Israel. The Lord Himself was their king, but they wanted a king like the other nations around them (forgetting that they were God's chosen people). They did not know what they were doing or what they were asking for. Samuel knew this and was troubled in spirit. --Nolan |

Yes, I agree, Samuel did not want to be a part of selecting a king over Israel, even though the LORD finally told Samuel to give them what they are asking for. (1 Sam. 8:22) However, you said, "It is not time yet, the man available is from the wrong tribe ..." God in His sovereignty knew this, but 1 Samuel 9:15-27 seems to suggest that God Himself chose Saul as Israel's first King- despite the tribe or regardless of the "time".. --Nolan |
