Hi, Brad... The Authorized Version translates it as Easter in Acts 12:4, which is the only time it is used. I also find it in the King James, the Message, and the Millennium Bible. Where do you find it in the NASB and Amplified? I am given to understand that Wycliffe and Tyndale both had this problem in their translations. Apparently in their day the term Passover did not exist in English. Wycliffe solved the problem by simply transliterating the word. Tyndale used the word Easter. The term Passover came into English in the mid 16th century. Now that it is commonly understood, it seems remiss to use Easter instead of Passover. In Him, Doc |

Dear justme, Yes, that's what the Venerable Bede thought. However, in the last few years that etymology has been disputed. I avoid the whole controversy, while refocusing the emphasis where it belongs, by calling it Resurrection Day. In Him, Doc |

Doc: Thank You! Anything that detracts or attempts to aliegn Christ and His experiences, like the Resurrection, and calling it "easter" cuts deep into my heart. I have just received material on "Worldview weekend" and Mrs. farout and I are even more concerned aour present state on our country. We just finished THE LAST CHRISTIAN GENERATION. This is a MUST read for everyone. After reading it we better understand why even with our adult children, and grandchildren, it seens like there is a communication problem. Boy, is there ever! Have you read it? Thank you for such afast response. Blessings. justme |
