Greetings, We do have the word Easter used in the English translation. Acts 12:4 And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people. The word in the Koine Greek is as follows, pascha, Greek 3957, Strong’s pascha, pas'-khah; of Chaldee origin [compare Hebrew 6453 (pecach)]; the Passover (the meal, the day, the festival or the special sacrifices connected with it) :- Easter, Passover. Besides the KJV, is there any other version that translates pascha as Easter instead of Passover? I've looked at the NIV, NLT, NKJV, NASB, AMPLIFIED, and the NIrV which all translate it as Passover. |

Hi, Brad... The Authorized Version translates it as Easter in Acts 12:4, which is the only time it is used. I also find it in the King James, the Message, and the Millennium Bible. Where do you find it in the NASB and Amplified? I am given to understand that Wycliffe and Tyndale both had this problem in their translations. Apparently in their day the term Passover did not exist in English. Wycliffe solved the problem by simply transliterating the word. Tyndale used the word Easter. The term Passover came into English in the mid 16th century. Now that it is commonly understood, it seems remiss to use Easter instead of Passover. In Him, Doc |

The only version that I found it in was the KJV. I did NOT find it in any other version that I checked (listed above). Thanks for explaining how the usage came about. Brad |
