Hi John With the question being: "Do you think there are any churches that are the most like the early church of Jerusalem?" Do you really think a Messianic Fellowship would not have more of a chance to be closer in it's worship services, to what would have been in Jerusalem as the first church, seeing that it was, a Jewish Messianic fellowship itself, rather than the regular denominational churches of today? We, the churches of today, follow more of the Paulene pattern of worship don't we? These churches were almost devoid of Jews, with the exception of the Judaizers, that only came to disrupt. When all that is being talked about is appearance, mode of operation, not doctrinal differences. But you are right, "Otherwise we would just fallow the pattern and be far too comfortable, not ever taking a close look at the heart of the matter of our worship." We wouldn't want that to happen. Hi, vintage... Most of what we think of as Judaism was more influenced by rabbis in Europe centuries after the primitive church spread out in the Roman empire. I have attended "Jewish Messianic Fellowship" churches, discovering that there is very little understanding of church history, let alone Jewish history. Doctrinally, they also leave a lot to be desired. I have yet to find any of them giving a proper exegesis of Galatians or Hebrews -- books that lay to rest the very errors that they continuously promulgate. There are very few brand new errors. God bless them, but Christianity is supra-cultural. A saved Jew is no more precious to God than a saved gentile. Being kosher, Shabbat observance, or acting like an Ashkenazi Jew, will not buy one mite's worth of righteousness in the divine economy. In Him, Doc PS Why is it that one can never find a Jewish Messianic Fellowship imitating Sephari or Mizrahi Jews? (Rhetorical question, actually.) |

"Most of what we think of as Judaism was more influenced by rabbis in Europe centuries after the primitive church spread out in the Roman empire" Very true. It's a frustrating thing when people apply anagronisims. Also, seeking out the theology of the first century Jew is extremely difficult work. MJH |

Hi MJH Would you be so kind as to supply a definition of ( anagronisims ) it looks like one of those words that would have a very interesting definition. I would like to put it in my word file, on the off chance I might have an occasion to use it. Vintage68 |

anachronism 1. the representation of something in a historical context in which it could not have occurred or existed 2. a person or thing that seems to belong to another time [Greek ana against AND khronos time] Sorry for the mispelling. I was in a rush. MJH |
