Thanks for your comments which are appreciated. My difficulty is that the passages quoted say that if we pray in faith we will see answers. As Christians we need to be praying in God's will yes but if we are convinced we are doing this through the guidance of the Holy Spirit we need answers for unbelievers. Can you give me a bible quote that says that God will not answer the faithful prayers of his church if it is not his will. Matthew 21:21: I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer. James 5:15-16: And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. vers to whom this is a real question. The full quote is an absolute with no holds barred!! God Bless Ian |

Ian, It seems to me the key to your understanding this is "faith". So let me ask you this. What is your "faith" in if you are praying for something that is not in God's will? Our faith in ourselves is useless! The faith spoken of is not if you have enough faith i.e. believing you can heal the sick and/or move the mountian just because you believe you can. Faith in God is the only faith of any value! The below is taken from http://www.monergism.com/directory/link_category/Gods-Attributes/The-Sovereignty-of-God/ God is sovereign over the entire universe: Ps 103:19; Rom 8:28; Eph 1:11 God is sovereign over all of nature: Ps 135:6-7; Mt 5:45; 6:25-30 God is sovereign over angels and Satan: Ps 103:20-21; Job 1:12 God is sovereign over nations: Ps 47:7-9; Dan 2:20-21; 4:34-35 God is sovereign over human beings: 1 Sam 2:6-7; Gal 1:15-16 God is sovereign over animals: Ps 104:21-30; 1 Ki 17:4-6 God is sovereign over "accidents": Pr 16:33; Jon 1:7; Mt 10:29 God is sovereign over free acts of men: Ex 3:21; 12:25-36; Ez 7:27 God is sovereign over sinful acts of men and Satan: 2 Sam 24:1; 1 Chr 21:1; Gen 45:5; 50:20 "It is not merely that God has the power and right to govern all things but that He does so always and without exception." - John Piper Steve |

Thank you for your reply however it is necessary not to personalise these matters. There is no dispute over God's Sovereignty. Nor is this a matter of my faith. With respect you are stating the obvious. Colin Urquart was a man of faith and states the opposite to your interpretation. The question is about spirit filled Christians, living within the will of God. With respect you are using a traditional safety clause if prayers are not answered then it is the fault of the Christian who is acting in their own strength. This does not hold water with unbelievers and is not consistent with the scriptures quoted. Also it is a major issue for some believers. This needs handling much more sensitively than you suggest.Remember faith the size of a mustard seed!!! As men of Christ we have to stand firm and give answers and we need the wisdom of God through the Holy Spirit to guide and empower. Bless you Ian |

Shalom Ian, I'm very sorry that you're not happy with the responses you've received. But be it known that your prayer for right answers HAS been answered. You just don't like what the answer is. Most of the time, the "answer" God gives is not so easily seen, it must be heard, and it's very often "No." We don't like to hear No, so we don't and keep on praying, while complaining that God isn't answering us. Even when we are praying in God's will, sometimes it's No. Don't you know that there were folks praying for Elisha to get well? But he didn't, he died of his sickness (2 Kings 13:14). But God did answer the prayers - he's no longer sick!! Cheri |
