1 | Life support, Yes or No? | Bible general Archive 4 | pjmacaz | 237531
I am currently testing this sight as I have found it hard to find a sight that does not end up in debate over perspective. I enjoyed the responses here of love towards those who answered less than gracefully. So, Here goes. In 2003 I retired from mil/gov work on disability. I have been married up-to this posting; 33 years, 4 children and 11 grandchildren. In 2012 I was in a motorcycle accident that left me in a coma for about a month with a traumatic brain injury, shattered clavicle and 13 breaks in 10 ribs. While in the comma I developed several infections due to the punctured lung. I was placed on life support and my family was in debate and confusion over why it was being allowed. Prior to the accident I stated I did not believe in nor did I want, Life support. To see the blessings and the healing power of God through this ordeal I change my position on this. My family, friends, Pastor and brothers and sisters in Christ were by my side within 4 hours of the accident. In the coma, I heard their prayers as if they were coming from above. My view now is that God is in control and if He chooses to take you home, then man's procedures won't keep you here. If God chooses to keep you on earth, staying off life support won't contribute to your death. I do have limitations resulting from the accident, but I am ahead of the expected recovery time that the doctors predicted. Now my question to this forum is "What is your biblical view on life support when deemed medically required."

The subject is not addressed in scripture but Scripture does stress the importance of life. I think there are two situations one you addressed or lived through where life support was required to keep you alive while your body healed. I think in this case life support is mandatory and required. The other case is where to be the best of man's knowledge the body is not going to heal or improve. That the coma or vegetative state will be the person's state until death. I think then this decision is the persons or his family. Frankly I do not want to live if I'm not able to serve God (such as being in a coma). I would rather be home with Him and in His presence. |

3 | God's should be revealed in him | Bible general Archive 4 | pjmacaz | 237541
I agree with your response on all accounts. However, in your last line; here is another way to look at the tragedy that encompasses a life that is stationary in time and space, as we know it. Looking at Jesus' words in John 9:3 Jesus answered, "Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him". Although this passage is specifically dealing with "who to blame for such a tragedy", the principle of God's will and work in every person is something that can't be denied. I agree with you that having a heart to be active in life for the glory of God is a pursuit all Lovers of our Lord would desire. We must never forget that God can use all circumstances and situations for his Glory for those who turn to Him with honest hearts. Romans 8:28 is used by many, focusing on the words "all thing". In my previous state, "coma", I just laid there. I have no memories of the accident nor almost 4 weeks after. When I woke up, I did not remember my wife of 33 years nor my children. Yet the testimonies of those around me during that time, lead me to believe that God used this body, that situation and the miraculous events over that time(you had to be there) to accomplish His will/work, for His Glory, in the lives of those that were affected, including the medical staff. I praise Him that I was available for service to His work without any conscience thought or movement on my part. I have made it known that my family can authorize any medical requirements deemed necessary until humanly hope is exhausted. When life support is only sucking the finances that burden the family, then my wish is to allow them peace of mind in letting go "and letting God". As I stated to Doc I look forward to your insight as I appreciate your compassionate replies to other questions. I thank you for your response here. May God Keep you Manny |

I agree God can be using us even when we are totally unaware of it and even when we are in a coma. But I did include a caveat in both situations I stipulated for the person in first example there was a reasonable expectation of the recovery. Likewise in the second situation all reasonable expectations were exhausted and medically there was no valid hope for any sort of recovery. While life is very precious I think we often forget that we all are going to die. That this is not our home and that we are just aliens passing through. This is clearly seen in Hebrews 11:13-16 (NLT) … They agreed that they were foreigners and nomads here on earth. Obviously people who say such things are looking forward to a country they can call their own... But they were looking for a better place, a heavenly homeland. That is why God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them. |

I concur. Thank you. I think (1 Peter 3:15 ASV Is misunderstood and used to give excuses for some to argue a position of interpretation. Rather than focusing on the Joy we have in Christ Jesus and what he has prepared for us. Colossians 1:5 NIV 1 Thessalonians 2:19 NIV give similar perspectives. Do you agree? |

Yes I do agree. Our hope is the second coming of Christ to take us home to be with Him for eternity.
