Dear Ed, I don't think that the differing views are so much an issue on the Forum as is building doctrine on a metaphor used poetically in Psalms (Ps 69:28a). The other references in Revelation do not shed more light on the question -- nor does the single other reference in Pilemon 4:3. Clearly these references are idiomatic and would be understood as references to the Redeemed. We can also understand erasures (blotting out) and insertions -- all typified in records of lineage kept in the Temple. Neither Arminian or Calvinist would deem it wise to build doctrine on figures of speech. I'm not sure why you felt it necessary to say what you did but you seem to suggest I built an opinion based on metaphor. Since I only listed a few common opinions and offered no discussion about them such as what they are based on. I don't see how you could reach that conclusion or even the purpose of you post. My intent was to present an understandable and valid reason why that question would be impossible to fully answer on this forum. Perhaps you simply wanted to prove my point. |
