Allow me to extend my point; Everyone has their pattern for asking forgiveness. For example; I ask morning and night, also, during the day when I recognize I have sinned. After many years G-d knows my plan...therefore ...should I suddenly be taken...illness or accident...He knows that I would have again asked for forgiveness....except that I did not have time to do so. He imputes forgiveness.(This was demonstrated by Him... imputing forgiveness... of the thief on the cross at His crucifixion) This is a common sense thing. G-d Himself determines when and how we end this physical life. Remember it is His desire that no one perish. |

Hello G Preston, I'm not sure you'll find scripture teaching a pattern of forgiveness? :-) I had found myself in a similar "pattern" years ago that in effect became a vicious treadmill. I was always trying to "get forgiven" instead of walking by faith (2 Cor. 5:7) and walking in the Spirit (Gal. 5:16). Please don't hear what I'm not saying:-) Does God forgive us based upon what we "would have done"? No, rather our forgiveness is based upon what he has done in Christ Jesus. Eph. 1:7 states, "In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace" (NASB) So, it is (only by) being "in Him" that we have redemption. This redemption is through his blood (shed on the cross), and it is "according to the riches of His grace", not my sense of it or my confession of them! My forgiveness is not conditioned by something I do, rather than what God in Christ has alrady done for me. (Eph. 2:1-9ff) Is this not what scripture teaches? We are imputed the forgiveness, justification and are therefore at peace with God when we believe (Rom. 5:1). This is a sovereign act of God. Forgiveess is imputed to us based upon the all-sufficient atoning death of Christ on the cross for your and my sins (John. 19:30, 1 John 2:2) I would respectfully submit that it not a "common sense thing" as much as it is a biblically based completed work! (I'm not advocating antinomianism by any means) Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

Very well put. I know being raised Pentecostal, I was afraid that I would commit a sin just before I died and not get into heaven. Once I realized my salvation is based only on my acceptance of God's gift and that God does all the work, it has dramatically changed my view. I went from looking at God as one who has His finger on the button just waiting to send me to hell, to a Father who has done everything to allow me to join Him. My relationship changed from a list of I can't do this, to a list of I want to do this. I don't understand why God loves me the way He does, from my mindset, I could find a whole lot of other people to love rather than me. Yet, He does and I know this because His Word tells me so. Maybe this children’s song can express it best for me: Jesus loves me! This I know, For the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong; They are weak, but He is strong. Chorus: Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so. Jesus loves me! This I know, As He loved so long ago, Taking children on His knee, Saying, “Let them come to Me.” Chorus Jesus loves me when I'm good, When I do the things I should, Jesus loves me when I'm bad, Though it makes Him very sad. Chorus Jesus loves me still today, Walking with me on my way, Wanting as a friend to give Light and love to all who live. Chorus Jesus loves me! He who died Heaven’s gate to open wide; He will wash away my sin, Let His little child come in. Chorus Jesus loves me! Loves me still Tho' I'm very weak and ill; That I might from sin be free Bled and died upon the tree. Chorus Jesus loves me! He will stay Close beside me all the way; Thou hast bled and died for me, I will henceforth live for Thee. Brad |
