It is my understanding that all persons who Love the Lord and are servants of his word are apostles. In Jeremiah 1 verses4-5 God tells Jeremiah that "he knew us before he formed us in our mother's womb",and that he sanctified us before our birth.'To sanctify means to make HOLY.This was a key scripture in describing the omnipotentcy of GOD.Salvation,Grace and sanctification are gifts from God,not something that can be earned. As christians we are required to acknowledge the truth of God's word and familiarize ourselves with terms that apply to ourselves."one Holy and Apostolic Church"AKA"Christ"s Bride." |

Hello sisterbaby, Welcome to the Forum. Reformed theology would hold that Apostolic authority does not get passed on. We have a doctrinal succession, not eclessiastical, so there are no more true apostles. Scripturally, believers are called "saints"- those who are in Christ. (Rom. 1:7, 1 Cor. 1:2, etc) In Jer. 1:4, Jeremiah was consecrated- the primary meaning of this word being 'to consecrate, sanctify, dedicate, prepare'- and it certainly does convey 'to be holy'. I think the far more common term for Christians- at least scripturally- is saints or brethren. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
