Bible Question:
Hi there, I was asked if I believed we have prophets and or Apostles in this day and age. Before giving my answer I would like to have some Scripture to refer to my answer. I have been taught that there are no Apostles except for those in the old testament. As for Prophets, the Bible tells us that there will be many 'false prophets' as the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ draws near. Thank you in advance for your time. Incidentally, I don't need a long time consuming answer, just something brief with Scripture to back it up. I can do the rest of the research if necessary. God bless you and your ministry, I'm brand new and this is my first attempt to use your site and am looking forward to many more successful communications with you. Sincerely in His service, pastor Jack. |
Bible Answer: I don't think you are going to find in scripture anywhere, where it says the office of Apostles and prophets has ceased or is still in use. Eph 4:11 tell us these ministry gifts were given to equip the saints to do the work of the Lord. I think that work still exists so I think the offices still exist and function. If we look at the definition of Apostle we find they are "one sent forth as a messenger" I view them as people sent to people groups to tell of Jesus. And think there are Apostles today, missionaries that take the gospel to people groups around the world. As for prophets many see them as future tellers but if we look in scripture we see them more as those that God used to speak through. I think many times prophets and preachers can be interchanged as they are used today. As a preacher hopefully your message is birthed by the Holy Spirit, and as such it is God’s word for His people that you will be preaching to. So in that sense you are a prophet of God, telling God’s people what God desires them to hear. |
