I am frustrated with parents who rely on the church for all of their children's discipleship, and I'm also frustrated with people who do not live the life by serving others. I want to encourage parents to take an active role in discipling their children and I want to encourage people, especially families, to be doers of the Word. I am looking for scriptures to encourage the parents as their children's primary discipler and on how to disciple their children, as well as scriptures to encourage individuals and families to serve others in the church and in their community. Could anyone offer specific verses that I might use to teach, encourage, and admonish others in this area? | ||||||

Greetings M-2-4 and welcome to the forum. I know exactly what you are saying and I believe the reason that most parents don’t take on the responsibility and pass on the Good News of the Bible to their children is because they don’t have anything “personally” to pass on; if you get my drift? Physically speaking: If people are starving to death and someone finds a never-ending supply of “free food” that is there for the taking, they would be so overjoyed that they would want to share it with everyone they know including their children. Jesus Christ means more to me then anything else and I appreciate what He personally did for me. I can’t help but share the Word of God with those that I come in contact with. Matthew 5:14-16 (KJV) Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Maybe those that aren’t letting their light shine don’t really have any light? John 4:14 (KJV) But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. The word for “springing up” is translated from the Koine Greek word HALLOMAI, and it means to, jump, spring up, or to gush out. There aren’t many around today that fit that description! Notice in the following verse that they had been with someone; it was evident. The same goes for us when we spend time with God’s written Word. Acts 4:13 (KJV) Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, ------- that they had been with Jesus. I hope you enjoy the forum, CDBJ |
