JChricton - StudyBibleForum was begun nearly three years ago by the Lockman Foundation, translators of the New American Standard Bible and other versions, with the idea and ideal of providing, to use their terminology, "a study Bible with unlimited margins." The ideal has never been fully and perfectly attained. While the Forum is not monitored in the sense that posters and postings are pre-screened, it is nevertheless supervised and carefully monitored by a certain group of long-time users who report improper Forum conduct to the Lockman Foundation who, in turn, are prompt to take appropriate action which may, and frequently does, involve the revocation of the abusers' privilege to make additional posts to the Forum. (I might add, parenthetically, that any registered user is free, and even encouraged, to lodge an abuse report against any other user who does not abide by the Forum guidelines). ..... Even so, since these procedures are re-active and not pre-emptive, undesirable posts do find their way in and remain permanently in the Forum archives for all to see. Lockman has carefully drawn up a series of guidelines for Forum conduct, and anyone who conscientiously adheres to them need have no fear of censure. ....... There are many users whose posts are consistently good and trusworthy, just as there are other users whose posts fall short of the mark. The best advice that I can offer is to sample the wares, weigh them carefully against scriptural teaching, and decide which are worthy of your time and consideration and which are not. This is a Forum made by human beings. No post is above question, none is infallible, and none is worth a row of pins unless it lines up squarely with Scripture. You may well learn something worthwhile here about Scripture that you had never thought about before. And from even the most glaring of the error-ridden posts you may learn something of what pitfalls to avoid! But to accept the Forum's offerings in toto as being the definitive model of proper biblical exegesis would be a most hazardous mistake. I trust you will join in and enjoy the Forum, but please, please always be a Berean and search the Scriptures daily to see whether the things being exhibited on this Forum are so! Yours in Christ Jesus, --Hank | ||||||

Hank, Thanks for the info. I genuinely expected to find a humble exchange--but as you pointed out, we are in the world! |
