EdB: I've read thousands of posts to this Forum and never ceased to be amazed at how many of them, purporting to be profound, are nothing but sterling examples of obscure, nonsensical gibberish. One should think that users would at least take the time and exert the effort to proofread their work before they post it. I've seen posts run the limit of words that are allowed for a single post without saying anything of importance. Ben Franklin gave some wise advice to a verbose young friend who was fond of writing long, flowery letters that said very little. To one of these letters Franklin responded curtly, "Young man, take time to write a short letter." Indeed, Franklin hit the mark squarely: It takes more time -- and a great deal more thought -- to write concise, meaningful prose than it does to ramble through many pages of flowery nonsense. --Hank | ||||||

Hank I was beginning to think I would have to dig up my old Captain Marvel decoder ring (Some of you older members know what I'm talking about) to figure out these cryptic messages. It is not just on the forum I have seen this occur in church. A person will walk up to you with this distant look on their face and start speaking a cryptic message. They then offer a little sigh, a quick smile, a nod and walk off. I have always thought they were a bubble off but others speak of them in glowing terms. I was beginning to wonder if it was me. It seems some people think the more cryptic, the more mysterious one appears the more spiritual they appear also. I sometimes think that is why some people hold so tight to the KJV because you can read it to others and have the people sit there with their mouth open trying to figure out what was they just said. Especially if they learn to drag out the ‘thees’ and ‘thous’ with a little tremble in the voice. Personally I think the whole thing is either founded in TV portrayals of the prophets and sages or it stems from such things as the half baked writings of nut cases like Nostradamus. I guess the more cryptic you become the more likely someone will find a fragment of fact and you appear to be a genius. |
