The Bible never defines the age of accountability or maybe I don't know where to look for it. My question is: can a youth who never knew the LORD and died suddenly, go to Heaven. Or even if he knew about salvation and didn't make a profession be saved. Ed |

This is a very good question. I like to say, "Mind of accountability" because salvation doesn't really have an age limit. When a young soul can understand that God is a living being, along with being able to acknowledge that he/she is a sinner, then he/she is accountable. If that soul never comes to know God, then he/she will separated from God eternally. But a little one who cannot understand this and has no idea even what sin is, won't be held accountable when he/she dies. These souls will see God. This brings to mind Revelation 20:12, "And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works." Psalm 51:5 says we were born sinners (Gen 8:21, Psa 58:3, Jhn 9:34, Eph 2:3). Numbers 14:29 seems to indicate that 20 is the age of accountability. David wasn't talking about going to heaven to be with his son, but to the grave (2 Sam 12:23), read Genesis 37:35. Also, when Abraham pleaded for Sodom, I believe their were babies, yet they were not considered righteous (Gen 18:26ff). I believe there are only two camps - righteous and unrighteous. So the babies were condemned, because they were unrighteous. I hate to think that babies and those who cannot reason are going to be separated from God. If they go to be with God - do they grow up, have their minds changed so they can reason? There are many questions that can be posed on both sides ... and since there isn't not any Scripture that you used (Rev 20:12 doesn't support it), nor are there any to support that babies and others go to God when they die, we must leave it in God's hands. |
