Personal Note......................................................... Hi Colin, As I look at the post 115810 that you directed me to, I do have some thoughts. Aniset stated many things, and they all appear to be true and in line with orthodox Christianity. However, he did not really answer the question being asked by Classy47. Instead, he said that he would be glad to help him through email and gave his address. His stated reason implied that there were too many verses and it would take too long to fully answer the question in the forum setting (which he could make a reasonable case for). Therefore, I see nothing in this specific post that would be cause for alarm. On the other hand, it does raise a "yellow flag" in that if Classy47 and Aniset corresponded further through email, then Aniset could lead Classy47 in the wrong direction without anyone on the forum being able to refute those ideas. However, isn't that the case with anyone? Colin, you seem to hold orthodox Christian beliefs to me from our limited contact so far, but couldn't you also lead someone astray via email after meeting them on the forum, and I'd never know? Can the forum be responsible for all of its member's personal emails? I guess those would be my first thoughts on that particular post. What are your thoughts? |

Sir Pent, For starters, let's imagine a scene: Exterior, Church, Sunday Morning. A GIRL, 17, approaches a Church Door. A MAN meets her at the door. They are alone. MAN: "Good morning, welcome to our little church... Oh, you're a new Christian, wonderful! I bet you have lots of questions... Good! 'In order to get the full understanding of what Jesus has done for us it takes time, an open mind and the willingness to learn (ID# 115810)...' I can help you find answers about Jesus. Here's my number. Let's study together." The man is a Muslim. The girl is your daughter, Sir Pent. 1) How would you feel? 2) What would you do? Colin |

My answer.................................................. Hi Colin, Thanks for your response and hypothetical :) situation. Your first question was how would I feel if a muslim man tried to get my daughter to study scripture with him by talking to her outside my church. My answer is that I would feel disturbed. Your second question was "what would you do"? I would talk to my daughter about the specific encounter and tell her that the man did not believe in the same God that we Christians do. I would say that it would therefore not be a good idea for her to study with him. The parallel to the current forum situation is clear. I think you are right to be disturbed that Aniset tried to convince Classy47 to study with him over email. I just think that the appropriate response is to tell Classy47 that Aniset is a member of a cult and to beware of his teaching. That should be sufficient based on current forum guidelines. Do you agree? |

Sir Pent, Based on current forum guidelines, which is more permissable, a JW claiming that Jesus is Satan's spirit brother, or a JW inviting a newly minted Christian to study the "real" truth about Jesus? Colin |

My answer............................................................. Hi again Colin, You asked me a specific question, and I'll give you a specific answer. According to the current forum guidelines, it is less permissible to write a post that says "Jesus and Satan were brothers" than it is for a cult member to promote email correspondence. This is simply because there is a rule against making posts denying the deity of Jesus Christ, and there is no rule regarding the encouragement of email correspondence. I agree that the second could be more dangerous, however, it does not break any current forum rules. |

Sir Pent, Then forum rules need to be amended. Aniset's action is way beyond the pale. Colin |

Personal Note......................................................... Hi Colin, I agree that the forum would benefit by stopping cult members from inviting people to email them for more information. However, that is totally up to Lockman and not us. Also I wonder how they could eliminate this without banning all people from posting their email addresses. Do you have any ideas? |

Sir Pent, I think JW's, because they are anti-Christian, need to be vetted and warned. This is a Christian forum, after all. If they or anyone promulgate something other than the essentials of Christ's divinity, they must be barred. I've learned a lot from this forum and I want to defend it. Colin |

Personal Note............................................. Hello Colin, I completely agree with you that I too have learned from this forum, and it is definately worth defending. I'm glad that there are people like yourself who are comitted to that purpose. I just want to encourage everyone to keep their denfense consistent, based on Forum guidelines, and conducted with a Christ-like attitude. |
