Spiritual maturity? I have a 2 part question. Does God mature us more through our knowledge of His word, or through circumstances? Which is more of a sign of Christian maturity; knowledge of God's word or love for others? | ||||||

We are commanded to grow in grace and in knowledge. 2 Peter 3:18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. As we live our daily lives and the experience that we go through we are to apply Bible doctrine to those experiences. If we don’t know the doctrine and haven’t stored it in our frame of reference it is impossible to use it. Jesus expects us to live by it the same as he did. Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. As far as the love goes you are making it sound like it is antithetical. Your post, “knowledge of God's word or love for others?” The knowledge of God’s Word alone with the controlling of the Holy Spirit, i.e. Not under the dictates of the old sin nature, will produce love for others which is evidence of the fruit of the Spirit in our everyday lives and circumstances. 2 Tim. 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 2 Tim. 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. This might not be the answer you were looking for but it is the way I see it. CDBJ |
