Oh. I thought the "goal" was to tell people about a saving relationship with their Lord and Savior, and to study His Word. | ||||||

Hello "There", Yes, I agree with you, but Steve had a good point. He merely suggested that he could reach out to others through inviting his neighbors for a Bible study, which I think is a very good idea! Nolan |

Hi Nolan, Going back to the subject again. Is Steve also saying that we (men and women in the church) need the pastor's permission to "reach out to others through inviting our neighbors for a Bible study"? I think we have THE LORD'S permission to do that. In fact I think we have His command to reach out to others, whether to invite them to a Bible study or to share the gospel in some other way. So I'm going back again and asking the same old same old. Why would a "believer" need any man's permission or blessing to do just that? |

Hello There, Good question.. I'm going to have to side with you on that question, since we do not need any man's approval to start a Bible Study or to go out and witness or pass out tracts. If this is so, then I have violated this many times! :) No, there is no scripture at all that states that we must have someone's permission or blessing to have a Bible Study, even though having a pastor know about it taking place certainly couldn't hurt. We most certainly have the LORD's permission to study His Holy Word on our own! I agree with you on this and disagree with the idea that we need a pastor's "OK" to do this first.. Blessings! Nolan |

Nolan - Reconsider. I have already pointed out that we are authority of the church, citing Scripture. If they say they don't want people to start a Bible study on there own, we must follow. We can always leave. One reason is that there needs to be some training to lead a Bible study ... plus, the person may not have the gift of teaching. Even if I have a Bible study at work - I need permission of my employer. Steve |

Steve, again I disagree.. There is nothing that says that we must have the permission of a 'higher church authority' to have a Bible Study and you will not be able to convince me unless you explicity show me in Scripture that says this, Steve. Therefore, I believe that you are in error here also. Nolan |

Hebrews 13:17 1 Peter 2:13-3:6 and 1 Peter 5:5 are the passages I cited. It does not say specify the Bible study. But, it does talk about submitting to the leaders. ... and this is a minor point, too. |
