1 | Predestination vs free will--a thought.. | Bible general Archive 1 | Agent Archer | 101266 | ||
I was confused about this topic for awhile. One day this just popped into my head and I havent been confused since. I dont know if it was from God or just my mind trying to make this concept more graspable (is this a word :)) and I dont know if there is any scripture to back it up. Well, I understand God knows all. I just thought (or was told as I said I dont know) that mabey God knows both paths we could take when we are given a choice to make, and knows what effect what ever choice we make would have on us. This might sound dumb, but I think God MIGHT (if this is incorrect please let me know) hide from himself what ever path we take, but is never surprised at the one we do choose. I think if He wants to, then sometimes He looks into the future and sees what one we choose, so He can intervene. Although more often than not, I think he does this. If Im wrong, please tell me, as I dont want to believe lies. Its just the whole "predestination vs. free will" is a confusing topic for me and I try no to think of it. The thoughts you guys, and most people I have ever heard from, sound confusing to me. It makes it sound like we are puppets and dont have ANY control over what we do. Basicly I dont think our lives are all planned like a script for a puppet show (although I do believe that some parts, if not most are) and I dont think some of us are ment to go to hell. I dont know if I accuratley discribed my thoughts, and if you have any questions about them please ask. Also, if these sound like the beliefs of any cult, just let me know as Im not a member of a cult and dont want to share any false beliefs. I'm only 13 and am open to other thoughts, as long as you can truely say Im wrong, I wont find it disrespectful and will gladly listen to what you say. Sorry I dont have any scripture, but God does give people insite, even if this isnt a case, right? (I know this breaks the first rule it states before posting, but I had to ask/share) Blessings, Ian |

What make the concept diificult is that God is not limited to our concept of time. The fact he exists in yesterday. today, and tomorrow allows him to have a plan that unfolds to us. The sovereignty of God is not versus the free will of man but rather the free will of man is granted by the sovereignty of God. We are not puppets but god does know our future actions and has the power to influence them according to His will. It is always Gods will not ours that will prevail (in out view of time)or has already prevailed (in Gods view of time) |

Actually, now that I have read more, I have seen other people who share the same viewpoint as me. My wording might be confusing, but I believe what Norrie and Makairos where saying about being a plain ol Christian. If either of you see anything that is different from what you posted about in the "Whats is Calvin and Armawhattheheckitis" thread then forget it. I just couldnt find the right words and I couldnt agree more with what you said. Thank you for your help, even though you didnt know you helped me :) Blessings, Ian |

http://www.calvarychapel.com/library/smith-chuck/books/caatwog.htm CALVINISM, ARMINIANISM AND THE WORD OF GOD the above url gives a good starting read on cavinism and Arminianism with out severely trying to twist you either way. Remember both Calvinism and Arminism a derived by starting out with the word of God and trying to apply Aristoliean logic. Neither Calvin, Arminius, or Aristotle were Jesus. If you end up with a conclusion that contrdicts the word of god or keeps you from following it, you can safely throw it away, no mater how many people try to convince you otherwise. |

Greetings Shalor! It is not often that Calvinists and Arminians agree, but I think we would agree that your assessment of both is not accurate. Let me explain, the two theological systems are based upon differing understandings of what Scripture actually says, but they are not based upon logic. Obviously, neither Calvin, nor Arminius were Jesus. However, neither were Paul, Peter, or Rev. Chuck Smith either! :-) By the way, I respect Rev. Smith. The problem is that we all think that we are right, but rather than simply debate the merits of our positions, we have to demonize those who differ from us. One way of demonizing a position is to claim that it is based upon Scripture plus something else, while my view is based just upon Scripture! :-) However, I do fully agre with you last statement my friend. Anything that contradicts Scripture can be thrown out! :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

I am sorry you think I was trying to demonize a position. Just explain limited atonement to me using scripture and with out aristotle and with out conflicting half of the new testament and i will withdraw my conclusion |

Greetings Shalor! Personally, I don't believe in limited atonement. Your best bet would be to search the archives! :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
