1 | why do we sin when sin has no mastery? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 80620
Because we have flesh that has a sin nature. Romans 7:5 For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death. Romans 7:18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. EdB |

A believer sins because they want to. Look at our position as believers. We are the righteousness of God. Romans 4:19-25 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb: [20] He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; [21] And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. [22] And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. [23] Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; [24] But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; [25] Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification. We are made righteousness just because we believe God. Romans 5:17-19 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) [18] Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. [19] For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. Jesus through His obedience to God made us who believe God righteous. What is righteousness? The ability to stand before God without any guilt shame or condemnation. Here is the point of Romans 7 sin had the power over our flesh. We had no choice but to sin as long as we lived by the flesh. After describing his situation of the conflict between his body, flesh, and his mind paul cries out Romans 7:24-25 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? [25] I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. Jesus is able to save him from the control his flesh has over him. Why? How? Romans 6:6-10 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. [7] For he that is dead is freed from sin. [8] Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: [9] Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. [10] For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. WE ARE DEAD TO SIN. SIN HAS NO MORE POWER OVER US. We live for God. If I am dead to sin and yet I sin it must be because I want to. James tells us how sin comes into being in a believer. James 1:14-15 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. [15] Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. The thought comes in as temptation. If we continue to think about it it will give birth to action, sin. Our God is so awesome and loving that He does not place in the world without the means to follow His commands. 1 Cor. 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. Note carefully this promise of God. There is no tempatation that will come upon you that is beyond your capabilities to overcome. So God is telling us that we need never think the second thought over a temptation. We can nip it in the bud. Once we expirience the reality of this promise, overcome a temptaion, we know that this is not a promise anymore but rather it is a reality in our life. If I did it once I can do it every time. If God is true that we can overcome temptaion no matter what it is every time. God said so believe Him. My flesh or old man died with Christ on the cross. Anything the enemy tries to fling at me through my mind is thrown at a dead man and a dead man cannot sin. Thank you Jesus. All this just because I believe. |

4 | why do we sin when sin has no mastery? | Bible general Archive 1 | Asis | 80759
ABSOLUTELY. Dying to the flesh is not a one time act. We must choose to crucify the flesh daily. We must take on the attitude that sin has no power over us (RECKON OURSELVES DEAD TO SIN) since we daily die to the flesh. We choose to walk by the spirit. When I realize that Jesus destroyed the power of the devil, Heb. 2:14 through Heb. 2:18 (KJV) 14Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; 15And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. 16For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham. 17Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. 18For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted. then I know that the only power the devil has over me is the power I give him. If we believe this is true (Heb 2:14) our behavior should reflect our thoughts. I am glad that God has chosen to transform me/us into His good, accepatable and perfect will by the renewing of my/our mind. All I/we have to do is choose Him over the world. And BELIEVE. Rom. 3:4 (KJV) 4God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. Are you/we letting God be true in your/our life? |

You write: "We must choose to crucify the flesh daily." Yet Paul writes in (NASB) Galatians 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me." "I HAVE BEEN CRUCIFIED" -- not "I crucify the flesh DAILY." "I HAVE BEEN CRUCIFIED" (past tense). Again, writing in (NASB) Colossians 3:3 Paul says: "For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God." "You have died" -- not "you ought to die." "HAVE DIED" (past tense). NASB Romans 6:11 Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. AMPLIFIED Romans 6:11 Even so consider yourselves also dead to sin and your relation to it broken, but alive to God [living in unbroken fellowship with Him] in Christ Jesus. |

What then is the hope of the gospel? John 14:30 - I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me. So it's possible to reach a point, when we cannot be tempted. |
