In Genesis 1.26 "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth." When God said *us* and *our* who are the others he is speaking to and referring of? From the statement it seems that God was not alone. |

Hello, The short answer to your question is: God is refering to Himself, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus. One of the most well noted scriptures indicating this is of course John 1:1-2;14. According to John, "The Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God." Then, when you move down further to verse 14 it reads, "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we behld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth." The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit already were before time as we know it existed. If the Word was with God, this means the Word was with Him in the beginning as stated in verse 2 of John chapter 1. Secondly,If the Word was God, then the Word was God from the beginning. Verse 2 tells us who the Word was and verse 14 tells us who the Word became. If the Word became flesh(meaning Jesus) and the Word was God (in the beginning) it is clear that Jesus is God (in human form.) After the fall of man, God needed a way to redeem man unto himself so that is when Jesus came to the earth. When Jesus left, He sent the Holy Spirit to comfort us until the "manifestation of the sons of God" This may not fully answer your question, so maybe someone else can come an add to or clear up any further questions you have concerning this issue. I'm sorry but this does not help. Genesis talks of the beginning and in the beginning the word was with God and the word was god but it wasn't until later that the word became flesh. I don't understand how God would have referred to *US* and *OUR* in the beginning. If your answer were the case then wouldn't scripture put the events in correct order?

zerotheory: Donnell Wells gave you a clear, biblical answer to your question. I don't know how it could be made clearer. Are you confused in that you view the Incarnation as the beginning of the existence of Jesus Christ, the Son of God? As Donnell has pointed out, this is not what the Bible says. If you view God the Father as being eternal, what would deter you from having the same view of God the Son and God the Holy Spirit? Wherein lies your problem with this? --Hank

I guess my problem is in the cronology of the events. It seems to me that God would have explained his son and his holy spirit from the beginning. Also, nothing would deter me from having the same view of the others if they were not considered the same as God at the same time as God. If they are also God then why not just refer to them as God?

Zerotheory, with respect to you as a person and without malice or intent at sarcasm, I must confess that I have no problem with the way in which God chose to write His Book, but if you do, this forum is no place to settle the matter. If you are a regenerate believer, take your problem to the Lord in prayer. If you are not a regenerate believer, and the Spirit calls, do business with God. Accept His grace and believe in His Son as your Savior and Lord. "The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit." [Philemon 25] --Hank
