1 | Is our dress a reflection of our heart? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 39071
Re : proper dress. Along the same lines - don't you think our dress can be a reflection of our repect for the Lord? I am not intending to be critical or judgemental here, but I am often surprised by the way people dress when they come to worship before the Lord. It seems that we put time and effort into the way we present ourselves to the "world" (ie work, a date, etc)but don't bother to get "fixed up" when we are going to gather to worship the Lord? I know that God does not judge by our outward appearance - but could perhaps our attention or lack of it toward the way we dress be also a reflection of our hearts toward God? Just wondering . . . Some people can't afford good clothes and I can accept that, but what blows my mind, and there is no excuse for it, is when a man walks into the house of the Lord and doesn't take his hat off; that gets under my skin pretty bad. I guess that I am from the old school and something like that just wasn't done, not in a public building, much less in the house of the Lord; that shows disrespect the way I see it!!

Greetings CDBJ! I agree in principle with your observations, and we have always taught our boys to remove their hats when they go indoors ANYWHERE - yet here are some other thoughts! I recall the days when it was unacceptable for a woman to go into church with her head uncovered! I wonder how many women will be sporting "easter bonnets" this year?!! Jewish men wear skullcaps (out of respect?)in their houses of worship. And lastly, I recall 8 years ago when our teenage son was in treatment for cancer, he lost his hair and always wore a cap. He did not take it off in church. We moved to the balcony where he would be less conspicuous. (Not wanting to offend anyone from the "old school" of course!) For you it's hats, for me it's women who wear pants to church! I guess old patterns are hard to break, and it is tempting to connect the head to the heart! Guess we all have to cut one another some slack(s)! Blessings to you! Mommapbs |

CDBJ and Mommapbs, To the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, be the glory forever! Mommapbs, There was a tug in my heart when I read your post about your son. Is all well? I would be very happy to pray with you at any time about any thing. My e-mail address is in my profile. I read your posts about the way we dress and is it a reflection of our heart. Memory fails me with regard to scripture at this time but I would like to comment on this and maybe the scripture I've attached would be helpful. (KJV) Col 3:23, 24 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. I believe with you that we need to search our hearts when we dress. If we are doing everything as unto the Lord then I shall dress acceptable before the Lord each day! Not to please man or women. This does not me that I will wear worn clothing to my office, I am a manger. I wear that which is acceptable to my business. Just to share a story about dressing in the house of God: There was a woman, about 30 years of age, that attend our Sunday school class. She would wear tight dresses and one time she wore a dress with very thin shoulder straps with a very thin or no bra. The reason I and others knew that this is because she was cold, get the idea. Well, men are men, and men are weak sometimes in this area, and men were looking. It was an uncomfortable situation. I'm not judging her, I'm just sharing this to point out that if dress as men/women pleasers we distract ourselves and others from the Lord's service. Always your brother in Christ Jesus whom I love with my whole heart! Cyclist |
