Looking for commitments ......................... Dear Forumites, I would first like to thank Tim Moran for being the first forum leader to be willing to commit to providing commentary on a book of the Bible. From the posts so far, it looks to be a very thorough and interesting study of 1 Peter. So who else would be willing to commit. Nolan, you mentioned you were thinking about picking a book. And Swartzkm, you're often talking about how much you value the input of the people here on the forum, directly instead of just quoting others. This would be a chance for you to start add a lot of primary thoughts. Hank, you mentioned that the forum would be improved with a stronger sense of purpose. I think that this is a great endeavor to accomplish just that, and it could use your help. Searcher (Steve Butler), you mentioned that you're somewhat frustrated by the repetition on the forum. For you this would be a great chance to cover some new territory and bring up new thoughts for others to ponder. Finally, Prayon, you brought up the observation that this forum is a terriffic opportunity to witness to others and enlighten "baby Christians". This would give you a chance to provide answers for many verses that future visitors to the forum will be able to use to answer questions that they have. All of the people, who I just mentioned, would IMHO, be excellent leaders of individual books of the Bible. I can only hope that they would have the desire to choose to commit to making it happen. From a logistic standpoint, I would recommend that since Tim Moran has already chosen a NT letter, we try to vary things a bit with our other books. Perhaps someone could take a gospel, someone else could take a minor prophet, a third person could take a book of history, and a fourth person could take a book of poetry. I will see what others volunteer for and then take a book from whatever category is left over. Finally, I would suggest that each time a person adds a primary note on a verse of the book they are leading the discussion on, that they also add a first response. That would keep all those posts from filling up the box of "primary notes without responses". This first response could just be a period, or could be a welcome for feedback, or even an email address to send questions to. |

Dear Sir, Greetings in Jesus' name! Friend, I am sorry, but I cannot agree with this 'movement' to institutionalize and/or organize this Study Bible Forum. I like it the way is is, :-), including all the the problems. I do not think that we can rid ourselves of such situations and problems by making guidelines and rules of conduct. If you want to talk about a certain book, chapter, or verse, then do so. If I feel I want to include myself in that discussion, I will. In my (sometimes not so) humble opinion, this will take the fun out of this forum, and I would probably not participate. The church already has enough organization and institutionalization, and I don't think any of it ever brought us closer to Jesus. I think it only brings us closer to human religion. I admire your intentions, and agree that we should behave in an orderly manner. But, to me, this would simply be common love, common courtesy, common sense, all led by the Holy Spirit, and in accord with the Word of God. In the book of Numbers, Balaam was called to curse Israel, and would have been well paid if he did. But any angle he looked from, God said that Israel was blessed. Even though God Himself spoke many times of the sin of Israel! This forum, from the eyes of man, may be a mess. But I believe that God is (still) pleased with the simple format that we already enjoy. If we try to institute the reforms suggested, we will only create a schism between those that adhere, and those that don't (for whatever reason). With all due respect, I pass. Greetings Charis! Long time, no see! :-) Personally, I like the idea of doing some book studies. It's not really a reform or oranized. Anyone can post anything they want at anytime. I have just decided to post some comments on individual verses through 1 Peter. Anyone can do the same, or respond to my posts with questions or comments. Isn't that what the forum is supposed to be about? The advantage that I see to working through a book is that we get to look at Scripture exegetically. Everyone is always complaining about two things: a) Questions like "Whom did Cain marry?" and b) The never ending debates on things like Calvinism and Arminianism. Posting on verses, like through 1 Peter, will help to address some of these issues. I see this idea as completely voluntary. I will post as I have time. I can stop at any time. Anyone else can post on the same verses if they choose. So, I really don't have any problem with it. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Dear Tim, Greetings in the name of Jesus! And I agree! I think that book, chapter or verse studies are wonderful, and I think that our sponsors are thrilled that we 'stumbled upon' this *novel* idea! :-) But to organize it, appoint leaders, and set rules is not our place. In other words, I think that what you are saying, and doing, is very much in synch with the vision that the Lockman Foundation had in the first place. Friend, frankly I think that we will always have the 'unruly' in the church, and on this forum. It is not my place to 'iron them out,' but to respond in love, or ignore, as the case may be, but always show a good example of Christ. Thank you always for your co-participation. In Christ Jesus, charis |

Personal Note................................ Greetings Charis! Thanks for the response my friend! Would you and your church keep my oldest daughter (Jessica) in prayer? We just received some very disturbing news tonight! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
