Following are suggested definitions of some of the terms you listed. These are synonyms -- not the theological or Bible dictionary definitions, but merely simplified definitions. Dear kalos, Greetings in Jesus' name! Thank you so much! This is exactly what I need. Indeed, when addressing an ignorant or even hostile listener, theology and 'dogmatic' dictionary definitions mean little. To a typical Japanese person (who needs the Gospel just as much as anybody), Christian theology and Bible dictionaries are just 'Western Dogma.' I have found that talking to them somthing like the manner of the Amplified Bible is much more effective. I am trying to put together those things that I HAVE found to be effective, with the help of my new fellowship of this forum. Your list is perfect! (almost :-)) In Christ Jesus, charis |

Talking something like the manner of the Amplified Bible, I think, is an excellent idea. That is probably what I would do in your situation. I have more suggested terms to include. Or a list that you may wish to condense. But I didn't want to take up a lot of forum space with them. I will email them to you, if you like. |

Dear kalos, Greetings and many blessings in Jesus' name! Please do let me know as many suggestions as you might have. Email is fine, but so would posting them on the forum! I don't think that the space would be wasted at all, and would probably be a better use of our resources than some of the posts we have seen these months. :-) I am well aware that the Bible says to lay a foundation and move on, but I think that many are choking on the meat of the Word because they did NOT lay a good foundation. Because the society around them claims to be 'Christian,' they are embarrassed to ask or even think about the basics of their own faith. Look at Hebrews 5:11 to 6:3, and see that the 'religious' thought they knew everything, but really didn't even understand the milk of the Word of God! Actually, they were only parroting the popular beliefs of the day, according to the teacher of their preference. (sound familiar?) The Hebrews stopped confirming their own faith, and just accepted the tradition of their parents, or maybe the somewhat 'radical' (but absolutely predictable) teaching of the charismatic fellow on the soapbox at the street corner. (Luckily, they had no TV!) Maybe my primer would help those in the 'enlightened' countries as well ;-) In Christ Jesus, charis |
