This verse Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. Isaiah 7:14 But Jesus name is not Immanuel. I have asked this question before and someone told me that you go by the meaning of Immanuel not the name itself. Is there a book that is easy to read that will allow me to understand the historical background of Hebrew scripture and history. To me this goes beyond Bible interpretation. Because if any new Christian reads the Bible would say Isaiah mentions Immanuel? I have been told there is historical evidence that Jesus existed, but I have never really searched for it myself. People are asking me this questions, how do I respond, if I have never researched it myself. |

Personally I like the book, "The Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel. It is a good easy read that delves into most areas of dispute that seekers have. It is not so deep and scholorly as to turn people off from the detail. Lee Strobel did not believe in Jesus until his wife came to the Lord and changed her life. Lee set out to disprove the facts of the Bible, only to become one of the pastors of Willow Creek Community Church in Chicago. MJH |

Yash'ua (JESUS) is God in the flesh, JOHN:1: 14. God is a spirt, Jesus is the spirit of God in a flesh body. Immanual means God with us. Jesus was fully man made of flesh and fully God filled with the Spirit of God. Immanual is a spiritual name of God |

Hello Tryinghard, Welcome to the Forum. A quick note on a couple of items: 1. God is not "a" spirit as one of many, but "spirit"- John 4:24; 2. As far as I can tell, scripture doesn't directly call Jesus the "spirit of God". The Spirit of God acted through Him (Matt. 12:28) He became incarnate certainly, but He is distinguised as the 2nd member of the Godhead (rom. 8:11). More acurately, Jesus is the Son of God.
