1 | Who goes to heaven? | Rev 20:12 | Tan | 141576
Hello! I would really appreciate it, if somebody could answer this question: Does one go to heaven only if he believes in Jesus? You can't go to heaven only beacause of your good works do you? How would you explain why is that so?

I believe John 14:6 is pretty clear. Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. So if you do not believe you do not go to the Father. That's probably why there are so much savings to do for a christian, I suppose. What about good works? I watched a play "Heaven's gate Hell's fire" before accepting the Lord and I asked the same question too. Could not find a satisfactory answer then. But later as I walked further, I began to understand God's Grace (In the book of Romans and Galatians) about the holy spirit in you and of "dead works" which can mean good deeds becoming insignificant. Its not easy to explain in just a few paragraphs. I would recommend that you study Romans and Galatians and one book "The foundations for righteous living" by Derek Prince. That answered my question in addition to others. God Bless |

In addition, perhaps the following may help. Romans 4:4-5 4Now when a man works, his wages are not credited to him as a gift, but as an obligation. 5However, to the man who does not work but trusts God who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness. Romans 9:31-32 31but Israel, who pursued a law of righteousness, has not attained it. 32Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but as if it were by works. Romans 10:3 Since they did not know the righteousness that comes from God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. Ephisians 2:8-10 8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God– 9not by works, so that no one can boast. 10For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Luke 10:38-42 38As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. 40But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” 41“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42but only one thing is needed.[f] Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” From here, Martha is doing all the works but Mary was doing nothing except to listen to Jesus and yet Jesus said that Mary had chosen the better. Thus work isn't everything. |
