1 | Why translationed "who are and who were? | Rev 11:15 | joyfulmom | 154588
Why is Revelations 11:17 translated with the plural form of "to be"? I can't find another Bible translation rendered that way, or rendered that way in any other verse with the phrase "who were and who are" instead of "who was and who is"

Hi joyfulmom, Welcome to the forum. I can't speak to the Greek and why it is translated that way (in the plural). However, in the context of Revelation 11:15 I see the plurality of the kingdom of the Lord and of His Christ. And yet the (o)Oneness of His reigning forever and ever. Also, in Revelation 11:17 the "One" is implied in the Greek and thus we see the option of NKJ, "The One who is and who was and who is to come" and the option of the NASB, 1997, "who are and who were." 1) I find it of interest also that the TR adds "and the (One) coming." In that regard, I look at the tense of Revelation 11:17. Revelation 11:17, NASB, 1977, "saying, "We give Thee thanks, O Lord God, the Almighty, who art and who wast, because Thou hast taken Thy great power and hast begun to reign. [Marginal note, [Lit. didst reign]." I think that the bottom line is that God who is Spirit is to reign, and He as the triune God is the One who was and who is and who is to come. And He has come in great power and has begun to reign. Thanks for your question, and we look forward to hearing your thoughts. From the heart, Ray |

Upon closer study of the verse I should have looked more closely at the grammatical set-up of the NASB compared to NIV or KJV. I could have answered my own question. Thanks for the input.

5 | Two Kingdoms of God in separate times | Rev 11:15 | 00123 | 225543
Do we have two kingdoms of God: the Kingdom of our Lord (God the Father) and the Kingdom of His Christ (God the Son)? In other words, do we have one kingdom first and the other next in time?
6 | Two Kingdoms of God in separate times | Rev 11:15 | EdB | 225549
There are many venues called kingdoms. We have kingdoms of man or of this world and kingdom of God. God is soveriegn and as such all are subject to Him. So in that sense there is one kingdom God's. However we see all authority was given to Jesus so in effect God turned His Kingdom over to the victor Christ Jesus. But we must remember there is one God and Jesus the Son and the God the Father are one, the kingdom is God's. Don't lose sight of what scripture is saying here, before this point God allowed man to set up kingdoms and rule. Man tried to rule other men, animals, and physical earth itself. However all these attempts failed in one way or another. At this point and on God has taken back this control. But since Jesus was victor in the battle of will, this passage was written to give that glory to Jesus. |
