1 | Can one pray after his/her death? | 1 John 3:2 | stjohn | 214076
Dear bibleman... Welcome to the forum. If I may, sir, I'd like to point to what prayer is, and is not. When we pray, we pray to God and to God alone. We do not pray to Abraham or anyone else, but God. He is the only one that can answer prayer. What the rich man was doing was not prayer any more then if I asked you for help for something I though you may be able to help me with. Nor could Abraham have done anything to change the rich man's fate. Only God can do that, and once we die, it's to late to change our fate. Heb 9:27 And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment, John |

Hi John, Thanks for your reply I disagree... Prayer may be made to God and to men or even to devils. Now it would not be a Christian prayer to anyone other than to the Father God, but still prayer could be made to others. |

4 | Can one pray after his/her death? | 1 John 3:2 | bibleman12 | 214079
Sure, Notice this passage where men prayed unto Baal. 1 Kings 18:26 And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped upon the altar which was made. 27 And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked. 28 And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets, till the blood gushed out upon them. Didn't do them much good but they did in fact pray. |

5 | Can one pray after his/her death? | 1 John 3:2 | Val | 214083
Dear Bibleman, thank you for the passage. When looking at this topic; praying to someone outside of the true God we can see from this scripture that this would be displeasing to the true God. Is 42:8 "I am the LORD, that is My name; I will not give My glory to another, Nor My praise to graven images. We see an example of this from the passage you supplied. These prohets of Baal were put to death. This was divine judgment from the true God. It is a dangerous thing to put anyone or anything in the place of the true God. 1 Kin 18:40 Then Elijah said to them, "Seize the prophets of Baal; do not let one of them escape." So they seized them; and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there. Notice how many of them died that day. 1 Kin 18:22 Then Elijah said to the people, "I alone am left a prophet of the LORD, but Baal's prophets are 450 men. Sincerely, Val |

6 | Can one pray after his/her death? | 1 John 3:2 | bibleman12 | 214085
Thanks Val, I agree that this type of prayer would be VERY displeasing to God. But that be as it may it is still prayer prayed by the worshipers of Baal. |
