I like your thinking here, because you are addressing the major differences culturally in the roles of women. Can I ask you, and any other man who happens to be following our thread, to tell me simply how often you think that a husband should have to even mention submission to his wife - or should he at all? Do you think that a man who is totally fulfilling his Christ-like duty to love his wife would ever have to ask his (Christian) wife to concede on an issue? How often in your Christian marriages have you come to "impasses" that resulted in you having to "pull rank"? | ||||||

Hi Joy, I have mentioned a wife's submissive role perhaps twice in our marraige, both times as we have been studying those portions of the Bible together. Beyond that, it's between her and the Lord whether or not she obeys His Word. The last time we talked about it, I made a point to show that God give one instruction the wife, one to children, and three to the husband/father. I do not "pull rank". If I pattern the way I treat my wife after how Jesus loves His church, well, suffice to say that I do not always do what God wants me to do, and He doesn't always force me. Sometimes He lets me find out the hard way that I should have followed His plan. I am prepared to allow her the same opportunity, or to act unilaterally in case of something that could really be devastating, just as God does with me. I thank the Lord that 99.999 percent of the time we are in unity. In case of absolute impasse, I turn to God. It's His rule, and we are His servants. It's always been solved through prayer. Love in Christ, Mark |
