1 | What about reading the announcements? | 1 Pet 3:1 | joyduncan | 124483
Though I totally disagree with you, I commend you for your consistency. Would you also then say that women should not speak even as a guest Missionary (for a 5 minute clip), or to lead worship, or to sing a solo?

Hello Joy, Thank you for disagreeing agreeably. :-) Women should not lead worship, because they are not to be in leadership positions in corporate gatherings of the church. Guest missionaries and soloists are in a gray area. I would say that, as long as they are not leading and teaching, it would be acceptable. Steve |

3 | Grey? | 1 Pet 3:1 | joyduncan | 124566
So why, with such a specific and direct command for women to be silent, would there be a grey area at all? Steve - your opinions, though toughest to follow, and most out of the mainstream, seemed to be the most consistent (until the grey :) If one is going to follow the Bible literally in it's every Word - I think that one has to follow it as you are. |

4 | Grey? | 1 Pet 3:1 | srbaegon | 124574
Hello Joy, Why a gray area? It's in trying to develop a systematic theology about women. 1 Cor 14 says for women to be silent while 1 Tim 2 says only that women are not to lead or teach men. Putting these together, there is a question of women's participation if not leading or teaching. So I have to figure out: Under what ciscumstances is it proper? Steve P.S. Is g-r-e-y the preferred spelling now? I'm pushing 50, so I'm getting out of touch. ;-) |

Ok - I am submitting to my husband here - he says the color is spelled gray - Grey, is as in Earl Grey Tea. I guess the Bible leaves this area intentionally gray, eh? |

Joy, your husband is right: 'gray' is the preferred spelling; 'grey' is a variant spelling. But please note how greyhounds spell their name. But you can't put much stock in that. What do dogs know about spelling anyway? ..... I can't agree with you that the Bible intentionally leaves anything gray (or even grey, for that matter). I resort to a quote from Willie Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar": "The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars but in ourselves, that we are underlings." So the 'gray areas' of Scripture are really not in Scripture at all, but in our feeble and limited minds, in their inabilty to fathom the unsearchable riches of Christ. I'm 69 years old and I fervently wish that now I knew half as much about God's word as I thought I did at 29. --Hank
