1 | Can you please explain tithing? | Deut 14:1 | ngkh | 163346
I believe Malachi 3:8-12 might explain if tithe is commanded. 8 “ Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, ‘ In what way have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings. 9 You are cursed with a curse, For you have robbed Me, Even this whole nation. 10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the LORD of hosts, “ If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it. 11 “ And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,” Says the LORD of hosts; 12 And all nations will call you blessed, For you will be a delightful land,” Says the LORD of hosts. I'm not sure about the quantum but I think there are lot of mentions about one tenth in the bible though. There is also a question if the one tenth is net or gross of ones income. In the end its one belief if he wants to pay or not. Even if another man says that it is not a command, no one can judge if he does not want to pay. Its between him and God. Not for us to say. I believe the holy spirit will lead one to it one time or other. |

Hello ngkh, Thanks for the response. These verses say it very clearly. I didn't use them earlier because it's my experience that those who argue that the tithe is not a command for today always point out that this was God speaking to a different people at a different time. Your right that no one can judge another if they don't pay their tithe or if they don't follow any other command. This is not about judging and I don't believe there has been any judgmental statements on either side of this debate here. This is about teaching the truth found in the word of God. I disagree with your statement "in the end it's one's belief if he wants to pay or not". This is a dangerous position to take. As christians, our responsibilities do not come from what we believe about a particular subject. They come from the truth and what God expects from us. Again, this is not an issue of salvation, but one of obedience. It is each of our responsibility to look to God's word for the truth and then to be obedient to it through the power of His Spirit. Am I ever disobedient? Very often I'm afraid. Do I judge others for their disobedience? I have no right to and I try my best not to. I am most successful at not having a judgmental attitude when I turn the focus on myself and my own failure to allow Christ to work in my life at times. with love, Jeff |

3 | Can you please explain tithing? | Deut 14:1 | lionheart | 163373
Gods best to you, This has been a contraversial subject for as long as I can remember. We often forget that all we have however much or little that may be,it all belongs to God. He expects us to steward what he has entrusted to us.That includes our tithe. I will probably never be a daddy warbucks,I live on a fixed income, but one thing I refuse to do is to come to God empty handed. This has served me well over the years. I've witnessed more miricals in my life over the last two years than I can even remember.Point being that God is our sufficieny, not what we have or dont have. When we are real in our giving to God it is one of the nuemerous ways we can keep our foot off the hose and trust God with our lives. In Christ, lionheart |

5 | Can you please explain tithing? | Deut 14:1 | sanctified06 | 163378
the bible says that you should give God 10percent of everything that you bring in. God can do more with the 10 then you can do with the 90. In then he says that he will return it back unto you 100 fold. This simply means if you get some money how ever much it is you automatically give 10. Lets say you get 200, you give God 20. You faithfully give it with the right motive without complaining and murmuring. See alot of people tithe but do it just because they have been taught to, but when you do it with the right motive. Then will God bless you. Don't give expecting to get. The law jof sowing and reeping goes along with this. If you sow a seed what happens you reap a harvest. Think about God is trying to bless you and all he ask for is 10percent. sanctified06 aka kisha |

6 | Can you please explain tithing? | Deut 14:1 | jlhetrick | 163434
hello kisha, Good points. Remember too that it is all that we are blessed with that we are to give back to God from. Not just our money, but our time and other resources. Regarding the return blessing, I have always thought of it like this. I do give "expecting" to get back because God promises this and He also says "test me" on this issue. I agree with you on the motivation issue. If my motivation for giving is because I am expecting something back, then I am giving with the wrong motivation. We should give because we are commanded, we are thankful, we recognize that we only have what God has provided in the first place, we want to see God's plan furthered, etc. But when God promises something, we should expect it, this includes blessings. 8 | Can you please explain tithing? | Deut 14:1 | jlhetrick | 163439
hello inmyheart, Your welcome. Your right. Someone being right and someone being wrong is not the point here. The truth is what is important. I know that the day will come when I see Him face to face and I believe that at that time I will find that I was wrong on many points. I have been corrected on this very forum which has helped to add to my understanding and knowledge. I am thankful for that. If there is anything I enjoy about debating these issues it is that 1). I learn more through my own searching 2). I learn from others, and 3). I hope to pass something on that's beneficial. I do have a rule for myself regarding discussing the teachings of God. I believe what I believe because I have come to believe it through my personal study and sitting under the teaching of others. I have enough experience to be able to look back and see that some beliefs I have had needed correcting as I learned more. I'm sure this will always be the case. But I am careful to reconsider my beliefs based only on the basis of scripture. Thanks for your kind comments, Jeff |
