By stating that there are more than two possible answers to the dilemna I presented, you are asserting that the scriptures are in error on the omission side, by leaving out numerous other possible reasons for the same outcome! By making that assertion, aren't you stating that the scriptures are NOT error-free, by reason of omission? How many reasons for NOT receiving what we ASK for were cited in the context of the scripture referenced, which was James 4:3? There was only one reason given, without so much as a hint of any other reasons (such as the phrase "among others"). The very next verse (James 4:4) completely abandons the subject at hand, not even involving "asking or receiving." Notice that there was no mention of "prayers" in either James 4:3, nor in my original question, but only of "asking." If you ask someone to pass the potatoes at the dinner table, are you praying to that person, or just making a simple request? Phillipians 4:19 states that God will supply all our need! Do you think people need heaters or defrosters in the winter? Would YOU do without them, claiming that you did not need them? Try taking your blower fuses out next winter (if you live where it gets really cold) and see how YOU fare in driving under those conditions, especially if you have loved ones in your vehicle with you! Besides, God knows our needs before we ASK. Notice He did NOT say before we PRAY! There really is a difference! | ||||||

Dear Biblenovice, Please do calm down first (James 1:19-20). I hope you would drop your focus on your car problem and the seemingly unswered prayer issue for the time being. Let me recall you to Acts 3:1-8. The lame was truly IN NEED OF ALMS, and that was absolutely reasonable. He believed so and I would, too if I were him. But what God gave him (through Peter's hand) was not the lame expected - a new life (both physical and spiritual, I beleive,...see he PRAISED God instead of praising Peter, and cling to Peter into the temple instead of going away). Now, why do I cite the passage? Have you considered that your coming to the forum in search of help on the specific car issue could be a means of God's dealing (through forum users who hold to sola scriptura) with your other problems - to have a proper understanding of God and His Words. Without proper view of God, our worldview will be distorted and so do our view on the circumstances experienced in our daily lives. May the Holy Spirit shed light in your heart. God bless Shalom Azure |

Thank you for the encouragement, brother John. Isn't God marvellous, and only He truly knows what we need and what is good for us? Doesn't He, only He know what our real problem is? Isn't He so loving and gracious that before we ask, He gives (i.e. before we realize our own problem, He takes the initiative step to show where we err). What shall we say but Halelujah to Him in the highest! Shalom Azure |

Shalom Azure, You known one possible reason for "unanswered" or "misanswered" prayer that biblenovice asked about is one that I'm sure most believers are guilty of: not waiting on the Lord. Like Abraham, we figure He needs a little human intervention or we jump on the first thing that comes along that fits into our budget assigning that as God's best. When we think we are in desperate need we forget how many times God's prophets urged His people to wait, to be still and to see God's mighty hand at work in our lives. Someone once shared this little gem with me: When God is preparing a work in our lives we can faintly see Him before us. But when He is actively doing a work in us (or for us) it's like He is out of sight, absent, we can only see clearly what He was doing after we have come through the thing. So when He seems the farthest away, that's actually the time that He is the closest. This is the time to be still and wait on the Lord. My 2cents to the mix |
